Witnessing the Brutalities of Wanjia Labour Camp

By a Practitioner in China

Since first learning Falun Dafa in March 1998, I have begun a completely new life and become a healthy and happy person, vastly different from before, when I had many illnesses. I realize that it is Falun Dafa that has given me a new life.

In July 1999, China's national media launched a propaganda campaign, spreading rumours and twisted stories about Falun Gong. I thought that I should exercise the right granted by the national constitution to safeguard that which I believe is right, so I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on October 30, 1999. I was arrested in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province on my way to Beijing and sentenced to 2 years in a forced labour camp. On December 26, 1999, I was sent to Wanjia Labour Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province.

I witnessed first hand that practitioners' appeal for a reasonable environment for cultivation practice (meaning practising Falun Gong) led to their persecution, using various barbaric forms of torture such as brutal beating, electric baton shocking, locking up in "small cells," being handcuffed for long periods of time and prolonged periods of being forced to sit on metal chairs.

On June 18, 2000, the camp held a meeting for practitioners. Heavily armed police surrounded the meeting place where male criminal inmates, who cooperate with the camp authorities in the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in exchange for preferential treatment, sat behind the practitioners. The chief officer of the labour camp said, "This [battle against Falun Gong] is not an internal conflict among ourselves but a clash between ourselves and the enemy." Some so-called "reformed" former practitioners, who had been coerced or brainwashed to give up practising Falun Gong, stood up to slander Falun Gong. A few practitioners in my group acted to stop them immediately, for which they were brutally beaten and then hung up (from handcuffs holding their arms behind their backs) in small cells for over 30 hours. The labour camp then began forcing us all to be subjected to brainwashing, attempting to coerce us to sign statements renouncing our belief in our right to cultivation practice. Those of us who refused to sign were sent to join male groups in the camp.

On June 20, those who suffered the torture of being hung up were returned to the group cells one after another. Their faces and bodies were all swollen. There were obvious wounds on their wrists from being hung up. The last practitioner to come back said tearfully that a male policeman named Li Min obscenely groped her breasts while torturing her in the small cell. When she attempted to stop him, Li punched and kicked her mercilessly.

I was shocked by the obscene acts perpetrated by members of the so-called "People's Police." Falun Gong practitioners suffer inhumane torture in this hellish labour camp everyday.

I am a survivor and a witness to the cruel persecution in Wanjia Forced Labour Camp. As a citizen with a sense of justice, I am risking my life to speak out the truth of the vicious persecution and torture imposed on Falun Gong practitioners. I appeal to all the kind-hearted people in the world to help stop this inhuman persecution.

All of what I have said above is the truth and facts about Wanjia Labour Camp.
