My name is Wang Xiaoyang and I am a Chinese student studying in Switzerland. I have three close relatives in China: my eighty-four-year old grandmother, my sixty-year old father who has not been well, and my fifty-four-year old mother. My mother is a Falun Gong practitioner and is the centre of the family, who provides both financial and spiritual support. They are ordinary law-abiding citizens whose only desire is to live a peaceful life.

However, at about 1:00 pm on the 25th November 2004, police suddenly came to my parents’ home. They searched the whole house. They left things scattered everywhere, as if the home had just been robbed. My family’s computer, printer, ink cartridge, address book and even their staples were all forcibly taken away. They also illegally questioned my father who was at home at the time. Faced with this terrifying situation, my grandmother was extremely frightened and my father’s blood pressure shot up.

As soon as my mother got home from work at about 3:00pm, she was immediately kidnapped and was put in the First Detention Centre of the Suzhou Public Security Bureau in Xiangcheng District. She was detained without fixed terms just because she practises Falun Dafa. I have not been able to get any news about my mother for more than six months now. I am extremely worried about my mother’s safety and wellbeing. Since the Chinese Communist regime started its brutal campaign of persecution against Falun Gong, over 2,600 Falun Gong practitioner deaths have been documented, over 6,000 have been illegally sentenced to prisons and subjected to inhuman treatment, over 10,000 are illegally detained in forced labour camps and many thousands were forcibly sent to mental hospitals and injected with nerve-damaging drugs.

Faced with such a sudden change and witnessing a loved one being taken away illegally, my grandmother and my father both suffered a fatal blow. My grandmother’s health deteriorated greatly and she could not get out of bed. She kept asking when her daughter would be coming home. On the 20th of December, she left this world taking with her all her worries. My father now lives alone. The doctor warned him that he could lose his life if his brain tumour re-occurs. He also has a heart problem. He urgently needs my mother’s attention and care. With the current situation, he is not sure if he can ever see his wife again.

I am the only child in the family. I am also a Falun Gong practitioner. Because of the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist regime, I haven’t been able to visit my family for more than six years. When I suddenly learned of my mother’s kidnapping, I could not accept it. I could not eat and sleep well. I couldn’t imagine what crimes my mother, a lady over fifty years old who lives by the principles of truthfulness, compassion and forbearance, could have committed that she had to be illegally detained? I am extremely worried about my parents. I wish I could see them and share their suffering.

Since Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist regime started its brutal campaign of persecution against Falun Gong on July 20th 1999, the tragedy happening to my family is occurs every day in China. Countless families have been broken up. My once happy family no longer exists.

I sincerely seek help from all kind-hearted people and communities. I never imagined that my farewell to my grandmother six years ago would become our final farewell. I can never see my grandmother again. I truly hope that I am able to see my parents.
