On U.N. International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, petition signature collections were held in the Canary Islands by Amnesty International to support victims of torture and to expose those who are responsible for the torture according to law. The activity aimed at raising people’s awareness of the cruel persecutions happening in the world and ending these persecutions as soon as possible.
Practitioners from the Canary Islands participated in the activity, distributing leaflets and CDs to passers-by and telling them about the goodness of Falun Gong and the cruel persecution that the Chinese Communist Party are waging against practitioners in China. One after another, people signed the petition showing their support for Falun Gong practitioners and calling for an end to the human rights abuses.
Local radio stations, T.V. stations and the number one newspaper in Spain interviewed Falun Gong practitioners. A reporter from El Mondo learned the exercises of Falun Gong and heard about the persecution that is happening in China in detail. He took practitioners’ telephone numbers and expressed an interest in finding out more and later interviewing Spanish practitioners. The local TV Station in Ghanali interviewed a representative of Amnesty International before focusing on the principles of Falun Gong for a special shot: “Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance”.
During the whole activity, Falun Gong practitioners received much support and help from Amnesty, whose members offered some practical experience and expressed their hopes to co-operate more closely with Falun Gong practitioners in their activities in the future
