UK Lords give Speeches in Support of Falun Gong opposite Chinese Embassy

From the 16th to the 19th of January, 2002, the Chinese Foreign Minister, Tang Jia Xuan, is visiting the UK. On the evening of the 16th January, he visited the Chinese Embassy. Dafa practitioners and non-practitioners gathered outside the Chinese Embassy to peacefully protest against the brutal treatment of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Speeches were made by the Vice- Chairman of the European Falun Gong Association Peter Jauhal, the Greater London Assembly Councillor Brian Coleman, and the Vice- Chairman of European Friends of Falun Gong John Dee, Lord Moyne and Lord Thurlow. They all appealed for an immediate end to the current persecution of Falun Gong in China.

Speech by Lord Thurlow Opposite the Chinese Embassy on 16 January 2002

“We are here to protest against the most massive persecution in human history. Never before in the history of the world have 100 million innocent non-violent non-political
citizens been savagely persecuted year after year, with every available resource by their own government. In the last three weeks 20 innocent people have been tortured
to death or murdered in detention by the Chinese authorities. We appeal to the
Chinese Government to call off this cruel persecution. They have signed the UN
Convention on Human Rights and the Convention against Torture and are ignoring
international protests against the flouting of the provisions. The British Government and people desire a healthy, constructive and cooperative relationship with China, but this remains impossible as long as this shameful persecution continues.”

Speech by Lord Moyne Opposite the Chinese Embassy on 16 January 2002

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! This demonstration has been happening daily for months, every morning and most evenings. Many people have been driving past. When I, myself, was doing the exercises I saw a busload of people. All of them asked what was happening and they found out that Falun Gong will become better known in every country, because it is not only here, ladies and gentlemen, that this is happening. It is happening all over the world! The Chinese government’s reputation is going to suffer irreparably if this [demonstration] goes on, because we are saying directly to the Chinese Embassy that Falun Gong will not go away. It is growing, it is growing! It is growing all over the world. China, even the big land of China, cannot afford to continue this persecution because it is damaging itself more and more.”

Opposite the Embassy, practitioners demonstrated the exercises and did the righteous thoughts meditation. Their pure minds and reasons for appealing touched people, even the on-duty police. The police officer in charge of security for the night came to find the organiser of this event and thanked her for the cooperation they had received. He said that Falun Dafa practitioners are the most peaceful and dignified protesters that he has seen. This created a stark contrast with the behaviour of the Chinese Foreign Minister, Tang Jia Xuan, who did not dare to use the Embassy’s front door. Rather than facing the peaceful protesters in front of the building, he shamefully sneaked into the Chinese Embassy through a side entrance.
