Recently, as the interest in Falun Gong among the Korean public has been constantly increasing, media outlets which formerly were not allowed to report on Falun Gong started to report on this issue intensively. Korea is one of the nations around the world with advanced Internet online media outlets. DAUM, for example, has more than 10,000,000 members and every day there are several million Koreans who visit this website. OhmyNews is another Korean online media giant and it recently published a detailed report on Falun Gong which was later cited by DAUM.

The report is an analytical report on the reasons for the persecution. It detailed opinions of many scholars who believe that the personal jealousy of Jiang Zemin, the fear of the request by Falun Gong practitioners for a legal practise environment as well the dissatisfaction of the general public, together posed a perceived threat to the ruling party dictatorship. Due to the reasons above, according to the scholars interviewed by OhmyNews, the ruling party [Jiang Zemin's regime] started the persecution of Falun Gong.

The report also objectively detailed the fast spread of Falun Gong since its introduction to the public in 1992 and practitioners' appeal to the central government on April 25th, 1999. Along with the article, OhmyNews also published a photo of practitioners' peaceful group practise in China before the persecution.
