Recently, Jiang's followers have escalated the persecution of Falun Gong in China. From November 2003 to January 2004, at least 26 Falun Gong practitioners were tortured to death in prisons or labour camps. On February 16, Falun Gong practitioners in Berlin gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy to mourn for those victims and strongly call on the Chinese government to bring the persecutors of Falun Gong to justice.

Recent death cases of Falun Gong practitioners due to torture occurred in nine provinces and municipalities. The torture includes cruel beating, electric shock, forced-feeding, and injection of neuro-toxic drugs. Among the victims are a 65-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man. As of February 14, 2004, at least 884 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death by the Jiang initiated persecution.

In front of the Chinese Embassy, Falun Gong practitioner held banners with words reading, "Bring Luo Gan to justice. Bring Liu Jing to justice. Bring Zhou Yingkang to justice. Global Public Trial of Jiang Zemin". A little after 4 pm, two practitioner representatives delivered an open letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao by dropping it into a public mailbox at the embassy and requesting the embassy to send it to the president.

In the letter, Falun Gong practitioners urgently appealed to the Chinese President to bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing and Zhou Yingkang to justice. Jiang and his followers have deceived other senior officials by covering up the cruel torture and spreading terror throughout the country, while the government-controlled media fabricate lies to slander Falun Gong and stories to deceive people that the forcing of Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief is "peaceful." Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the Chinese Central Military Committee, former General Secretary of Communist Party, and former Chinese President, is the chief culprit for the persecution. Luo Gan, member of Chinese Communist Party Politburo, Deputy Director of the "6-10" Office [an organisation in charge of persecuting Falun Gong], Liu Jing, Vice Minister of Ministry of Public Security, and Zhou Yingkang, Minister of Public Security execute and direct the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners throughout the country.

The original letter in German and a translated version in Chinese were both sent to Beijing, China.
