Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners at Hebei University of Science and Technology's College of Engineering

Hebei University of Science and Technology's College of Engineering (COE) was formerly known as Hebei Textile Industrial College.

As early as late 1996, COE started to censure and criticize student practitioners, requesting them to stop the practice of Falun Dafa.

In 1998, the administrative team of COE, headed by President Zhang Xuezhong, made a decision to forbid students to practise Falun Gong. In this way, the students were deprived of their freedom of belief.

In early July 1999 COE officers talked with a practitioner who was an employee and a member of the Party. They pressed him to quit practising Falun Dafa.

After Jiang's regime started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999 administrative officers at different levels went further to press Falun Gong practitioners in many ways. They pushed practitioners to write the so-called "Guarantee Statement" and confiscated Falun Gong books.

On January 3, 2000, since Qu Ping and Han Junhong did not give up the practice, COE sent two administrative teams of 5 people each to their post. The teams read the college's punitive decisions to them, and requested them to wrap up personal possessions and leave immediately under the teams' supervision. In addition to removing them from the post, COE also stopped their bonus pay.

In March 2003 Qu Ping and Han Junhong went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. As punishment COE compelled them to stay at home. COE also stopped their salaries, only giving 220 Yuan as allowance every month. [Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.]

In April 2000, with the excuse of a "sensitive" date of April 25, COE's Party Secretary Shan Shisheng, together with the Office Director Sun Xiaofeng, led some mid-level COE officers to take turns monitoring the entrance of the residential area. There were three shifts, each consisting of 4 or 5 people. In this way, they blocked Qu Ping and Han Junhong from leaving home, and deprived them of their personal freedoms.

In November 2000 COE fired Qu Ping and Han Junhong. Since Qu was a Party member, her Party membership was also revoked. There were two written reasons why they were fired: One was that they practised Falun Gong. The other reason was that they "broke the work discipline," because they did not ask for a leave on March 5 when going to Beijing to appeal. Actually, March 5 was a Sunday.

In April 2001 COE officers slandered Falun Gong during a major meeting. Declaring it as a political assignment, they requested each employee to sign on a white banner against Falun Gong.
