Guan Zhaoqi is fifty years old and lives in Ranghulu District of Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. He is the former deputy director of Daqing Petroleum Material Company Anti-Corrosion Pipeline Factory.

On January 1, 2001 Guan Zhaoqi went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. He was later detained at the Fangshan District Detention Centre in Beijing for twenty-one days. His work unit brought him back on January 23, 2001. Jiang Baichao, the Party Secretary in his work unit forced his family to pay 7,000 Yuan[1] and has not returned the money. The right side of Guan Zhaoqi's right leg from the buttock to the knee was black and blue as a result of beatings by the police. He has required support while walking since he returned home.

On September 6, 2002, Mr. Lin, director of Daqing City Public Security Bureau, along with more than ten others, broke into Guan Zhaoqi's house. They kidnapped and detained him for fifteen days at the boarding house of the security bureau. On September 20, he was sent to the Daqing City Detention Centre. On March 25, 2003 a secret trial was held at the Daqing Ranghulu District Court and Guan was sentenced to six years in prison. On June 3, 2003 he was sent to the Daqing Prison. Due to a tight blockade on information, his situation is still unknown. His family is not allowed to visit him.

Guan's parents miss him. They are seventy-nine and seventy-eight years old, respectively. Their health condition is poor and they need others to care for them. Their son's situation causes them great emotional trauma.
