On Saturday the 18th of October, Falun Gong practitioners gathered in Cambridge city centre to promote Falun Gong and let people know about the human rights violations occurring against practitioners in China. They held a grand performance that won the attention of many people in the city that day, including lots of students who have recently arrived from China.

The performances showed the Cambridge people the true beauty of Chinese culture in a lion dance and traditional Chinese fan dancing. There were also songs performed by practitioners and a Public Trial of Jiang Zemin, the instigator of the persecution against Falun Gong. This was the beginning of a whole week of events in Cambridge. Cambridge resident Ned Minns said "It was a wonderfully colourful and vibrant show. Even the slow bits seemed full of life."

In an opening speech, Cambridge University Alumnus and representative of the UK Falun Gong Association Peter Jauhal revealed the stark contrast between the day of activities in the UK and the position of practitioners in China who would be “killed or imprisoned for believing in the principles of Falun Dafa, which are Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance."

Cambridge MP Anne Campbell sent a message of support to the practitioners, stating, "I know you will celebrate your freedom in being able to practise your religion in the UK and the people of Cambridge will celebrate with you. Continued support is essential if the Chinese leaders are to be persuaded of the justice of your cause and your right to practise as you wish."
