WASHINGTON - The establishment of the “Global Coalition to Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice” was officially announced to the public at the National Press Club (NPC) in Washington DC on September 30th.

The Coalition’s mission statement says that it "is dedicated to protecting the future of humanity by mobilising concerned groups and individuals worldwide with the purpose of stopping persecution and genocide in its tracks. The Coalition is committed to exposing the crimes against humanity as committed by Jiang Zemin and his accomplices."

More than 100 organisations and well-known individuals have joined the coalition so far.

Li Dayong, one of the organisers said that since Jiang Zemin had taken the position of general-secretary of the communist party, "China’s civilisation and social morality have seen a general reversal..…almost every individual and group with independent belief, personality, differing opinions and desires were subjected to persecution of varying degrees, including the Tiananmen Square students, laid-off workers, political dissidents as well as religious groups, Qigong exercise groups, democracy and human rights groups and the news media.

"In particular the hundreds of millions of Falun Gong practitioners who follow the principles of ‘Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance’ have been subjected to extremely cruel persecution under Jiang’s edict of ‘..destroy their reputations, break down them financially and annihilate them physically.’"

Li Dayong said that "atrocities" are still being carried out in China despite continuous appeals and "China’s current People’s Congress and legal system do not have the power, ability or moral courage to conduct an inquiry of Jiang’s crimes and to stop him on judicial grounds."

Li said that overseas governments and organisations either do not understand the true extent of Jiang’s measures or are under perceived economic and political pressure.

Therefore, Li says, to successfully bring Jiang Zemin to account all the righteous forces in the world must unite and promote this cause.

Mr. Tang Boqiao, chairman of a Chinese peace organisation said, "There is an old Chinese saying that ‘the government compels civilians to rebel,’ however the current government compels civilians to die."

China’s soaring suicide rate can be attributed to the fact that those in lower socio-economic layers of society have even been deprived of the right to rebel.

Dr. He Haiying, one of the contact persons for the coalition’s Founding Committee pointed out that the crime of "genocide" was created after the Second World War when the extent and horror of the fascist’s treatment of Jews in the Holocaust was brought to light.

The crimes Jiang Zemin has committed are not only to annihilate religious groups and dissidents physically, but also to radically destroy human dignity and society’s humanity. This new kind of crime could be called "consciencide."

A delegate for Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Chen Gang, talked about the tortures he received both physically and mentally for belief in "Truthfulness, Forbearance, and Compassion" during his 15 month detention in Tuanhe Detention Centre in Beijing.

He was deprived of sleep for 15 days and subjected to various forms of torture including high-voltage electric shocks to sensitive body parts. He was once tucked under a low bed with his head and feet tightly tied together, which was then piled with heavy objects.

This torture almost broke his spine and had rendered him unable to walk normally for two weeks.

His experience reflects one angle of the cruelty of the persecution instigated by Jiang Zemin Dr. He Haiying said that news of the establishment of the “Global Coalition to Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice” has spread to Mainland China and they have already received some positive feedback, including some from workers and students in China.

He expressed the wish that this news could spread more rapidly and widely and that anyone can join the coalition.

The coalition’s first public rally will be held on October 6th in New York.
