Yesterday, Friday 11th July, Falun Gong practitioners held a demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy in Luxembourg to draw the public’s attention to the persecution of Falun Gong in China and to appeal to the government of Beijing to stop this persecution. The practitioners came from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

Falun Gong, also know as Falun Dafa, is an ancient cultivation practice to improve physical and mental well being. Based on the moral principles of Truth, Compassion and Forbearance, it is completely open to the public and has no political affiliations. It originated in China in 1992, and has since been practised in more than 60 countries all over the world by almost 100 million people of all ages and all social classes.

Because the dictatorial regime of the former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin was unable to tolerate the immense popularity of this method, Falun Gong was banned in China in July 1999. Since that time, thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted, tortures and killed for attempting to expose the facts about the persecution to the rest of the population. During these four years practitioners never resorted to violence and have always remained peaceful.

Today, a demonstration of the exercises of Falun Gong will take place at Place Guillaume II in Luxembourg.
