EVENING STAR [UK]: Call for China to free unlawfully jailed meditators

A PEACEFUL demonstration to raise awareness of the persecution of people in China was held at Ipswich Cornhill.
Signatures were also collected and Saturday’s event for a petition to free unlawfully imprisoned and tortured Falun Gong practitioners.

Falun Gong, like yoga, is a set of meditation exercises to improve mind, body and spirit and is seen as a spiritual movement.

The number of people practising Falun Gong grew to more than 70 million, exceeding the membership of the communist party.

It was banned in 1999 and anyone who practises it in China faces persecution. Practitioner Philip Gillich said there was a demonstration of the exercises, learned every Saturday at free classes at Highfield Community Centre, Highfield Road, Ipswich.
