June 3rd 2003 was the 7th day of Dr. Charles Li’s hunger strike. Dafa practitioners in Germany applied for permission to appeal in front of the Chinese Consulate in Munich. The departments responsible for permitting such activities in Munich were shocked by the news of Dr. Li’s hunger strike and his illegal arrest and detention. Usually the application to appeal and the approval of this application is complete in a day. However, today it took very little time to complete and for it to be accepted. Before 11am., German Dafa practitioners had received the approval for two days of activities and were on their way to the Chinese Consulate.

After telling the policemen in charge that Charles Li had been on a hunger strike for the past 7 days, the officer clearly understood the importance of support for Charles Li’s appeal and the importance of support from the international community.

Practitioners felt that they could not merely sit by and watch with Charles Li on his 7th day of a hunger strike. He is currently in a critical condition and so practitioners understood that they must exert great efforts to do their best to tell people about this matter.

Dafa practitioners made some signs in German that night and these attracted a lot of western people. The signs read things like, “Dr. Li on hunger strike in Nanjing since May 27”. “Dr. Li is now in a critical condition. He was illegally sentenced to 3-years in jail merely because he wanted to be a good person”. “It is the 7th day of Dr. Li’s hunger strike today. Give back Charles Li’s freedom. Stop the persecution immediately” Several Germans said similar phrases, “Dictatorships are all the same. We know what a dictator is, as we have all experienced one.”

A lot of western people were attracted to the large display appealing for the release of Dr. Li and the photo exhibition detailing the persecution. We found that some people came to understand the facts much more easily then others. Some who had listened to the facts said that even for this dictator, people in the west even invest in China. Why haven’t people thought about it? Dafa practitioners expressed their joy at learning that many more people now understand the truth so well.

There was a passer-by who told a Dafa practitioner that all three windows in the upper floor of the Chinese Consulate have cameras and that he had seen them being installed. He asked whether practitioners were scared or not. The practitioner replied that they wanted to let people know that Dr. Charles Li was on a hunger strike and they had not thought about the idea of not letting Consulate officials take pictures. They also said that they felt the Consulate officials were pitiful as they have been hidden from the truth and have only heard the voice of the dictator for the past 4 years.

Practitioners sent forth righteous thoughts several times during the activity in front of the Consulate. During the day, some practitioners maintained a hunger strike throughout the entire day; some were so busy that they did not eat until 8 o’clock. Others still came after work. One practitioner helped to let practitioners in their area know about the activity even though they were rushing to finish their doctoral graduation dissertation. Another practitioner came to the Chinese Consulate immediately after hearing the news. All practitioners could only think of Charles Li. If a brother was sentenced to a 3-year jail sentence even though he was innocent, and if he was on his 7th day of a hunger strike, risking everything to protect his beliefs, we would definitely do our best to utilise any opportunity to make it widely known to people. We would also let the international community know about the dictator’s unethical terrorism against Falun Gong practitioners. The activities to appeal for the immediate release of Dr. Li in front of the Chinese Consulate in Munich are to continue tomorrow.
