Officials from the Shenben District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Shenyang City worked with officials at the district court to try Ms. Wu Limei and Ms. Dong Huidi on October 18th, 2012. They were charged with “disrupting law enforcement.”

On July 7th, 2012, officials from the Shenyang Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the New Shenben District instructed all police stations in the area to arrest local Falun Gong practitioners in the areas around Xinchengzhi Street, Cailuo Town, Magang Village and Huangjia Village before the 18th National Congress .

Ms. Wu, in her early 40s, from Xinchengbao Village in the New Shenben District was arrested along with her husband, Mr. Liang Zhihong, at around 7:50 p.m. when several officers from New Shenbei Police Station broke into her house. Her son was also arrested later. Her husband and her son were released later that night, but Ms. Wu was detained at Xinchengzi Street Police Station. She was later transferred to Shenyang No.1 Detention Centre, where she was brutally tortured and developed symptoms of high blood pressure and heart disease.

Ms. Dong, 69, from Magang Village in the New Shenben District and Zhao Fengjie were arrested by officers from Magang Village Police Station on May 27th, 2012, while they were distributing DVDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong to local villagers. Shortly after the arrest, eight or nine police broke into Ms. Dong's house and confiscated many of her personal belongings, including a new TV, a laptop worth 4000 yuan1, and all of her Falun Gong books. Ms. Dong has been detained at Zaohua No.1 Detention Centre in Shenyang since May 28th.

The day Ms. Wu and Ms. Dong were in court, there were many uniformed and plainclothes police outside the courthouse watching everyone that passed by. Only two family members were allowed to go into the courtroom.

When the court staff slandered Falun Gong, Ms. Dong said, “Falun Gong is practised in more than 100 countries. Only the Chinese Communist Party forbids it. There is nothing wrong with being a good person and conducting oneself according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”

Due to Ms. Wu's poor health, she nearly fainted several times. She said to the judge, “I haven't violated any law, it was you who are supposed to enforce the law, but actually broke the law.” The judge had nothing to say to the two practitioners and ended the proceedings within half an hour.

Ms. Wu Limei's family has been persecuted before because they practise Falun Gong. Several family members have been detained or sent to forced labour camps. Her second brother was sentenced to three years in prison. Her husband was arrested on July 31st, 2001, by officers from the Xinchengzi Street Police Station and was sentenced to six years in Lingyuan Prison. Commander Deng beat him until the bones in his arms were broken and his skull was fractured. During the time her husband was in prison, Ms. Wu had to raise their two children by herself. Her life was very tough.
