Female Engineer in Nanjing Persecuted Repeatedly; Disabled Due to Forced Ingestion of Unknown Drugs

Ms. Zhu Jianling, an engineer for the Chenguang Corporation in Nanjing, started practising Falun Gong in 1997 and benefitted mentally and physically. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong, she's been detained multiple times. In 1999, she visited Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong, but was taken to the Beijing Detention Station. In 2000, she was arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and placed in a forced labour camp for three years. In 2004, she was taken to a forced labour camp for an additional three years, with the excuse that she'd “organized a gathering.” In 2008, Ms. Zhu was sentenced to forced labour for the third time and placed in Judong Women's Forced Labour Camp in Jiangsu Province. Her term was frequently extended by camp officials. She has now been detained for eight years. Her hair has turned grey. Guards force her to do slave labour on an electric sewing machine daily.

On December 5th, 2011, Ms. Zhu was arrested by plainclothes officers from the Gongqinglu Police Station in the Qinhuai District for exposing the persecution about Falun Gong. The Nanjing Detention Station refused to admit her since she suffered from hypertension. However, under orders from the Nanjing 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the detention station was forced to hold her. During her detention, the 610 Office attempted to transfer her to Judong Women's Labour Camp in Jiangsu Province several times, but camp officials refused to accept her.

During her incarceration in the Nanjing Detention Station, guards routinely added unknown drugs to her beverages, and her entire body swelled up; she subsequently developed serious cardiac disease symptoms. Later, she was transferred to the Nanjing Brainwashing Centre. She was again forced to eat food laced with unknown drugs, resulting in the development of gallstones. This caused such severe pain that she rolled on ground and was in critical condition. The Nanjing Brainwashing Centre staff feared being held responsible for her possible death, so they released her.

Following her release, the 610 Office staff told Ms. Zhu to sign release statement. She told them, “Forget it, I'll never sign such a statement!” After seven months of hardship, Ms. Zhu was released.
