My name is Chen Xiaoyue, and I am 40 years old. Although I read the Falun Gong book Zhuan Falun in 1997, I did not start cultivating Falun Gong until 2006. Prior to practising, I had a severe gynaecological illness. When I was a child, I fell down the stairs head first, and the accident left me with chronic headaches. After cultivation, all of my ailments disappeared, and my face glowed with a healthy complexion.

On September 18th, 2008, I went to Nanhui Garden in Zhongshan to distribute Falun Gong flyers. I was reported by the Nanhui Garden security guards at 8 p.m. and taken to the Zhuyuan Police Station in Zhongshan an hour later. I was sent to the Zhongshan Detention Centre the next evening. I explained the facts about Falun Gong and did the exercises in the detention centre. Officer Chen tied me up on a death bed1, and my feet were shackled for seven days.

I was sentenced to three years in prison on February 10th, 2009, and admitted to Guangdong Women's Prison on June 17th. I was not allowed to sleep, shower, or use the toilet. For over a month, they tricked me into copying down slanderous propaganda that damaged Falun Gong, and they brainwashed me every day. I was also made to watch the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) fabricated television programmes. When I suddenly came to my senses, I said, “Anything I copied or wrote against Falun Gong then became invalid."

I was locked in a small cell on March 8th, 2010. Guards Cai Yanbo, Zhang Yanting, Li Lihong, and five criminal inmates including Ceng Minghui and Zhao Juan took turns abusing me. They did not allow me to sleep, made me sit on a small stool, and forced me to stand for long periods of time. I said, “Life and death mean nothing to me,” and they were unable to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] me.

In the prison's attempts to “transform” me, I was threatened, tortured, and brainwashed every day. I was monitored around the clock. I was not allowed to talk to anyone, and I was cursed at by criminal inmates, even for looking at another person. From March 8th to April of 2010, I was not allowed to take a shower. They did not let me go to sleep until after midnight, and sometimes I was kept awake until 4 a.m. I was drained mentally and physically. I was extremely nervous every day, and my health rapidly declined. Due to the unbearable abuse, I went on a hunger strike. I was then persecuted more intensely, and I had a mental breakdown and a loss of memory.

Guard Li Lihong took me to the prison hospital on March 24th, 2010. I said, “I am very healthy. I am not sick, so what am I doing in the hospital?” They said I had a gynaecological illness and leukaemia. Later, they put me in Workshop No. 1 to operate a sewing machine. During that time, I felt tired, dizzy, and weak. I could not do the work well or finish my assignments.

At the end of 2010, I was transferred to Prison Ward 7. There, I refused to write anything down and announced that anything I had copied by hand in prison was invalid. Some guards had a talk with me, and I asked them, “Isn't Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance good?” They tried to find excuses for themselves. I said, “Those who say that Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is not good must themselves be bad people.” The guards immediately locked me up in a small room for three months. Three guards—Li Lihong, Cai Yanbo, and Zhang Tingyan (she is specifically in charge of Falun Gong practitioners in the ward)—and five criminal inmates—Ceng Minghui (who is in charge of pressuring practitioners to write statements against Falun Gong), Zhao Juan, Chen Yingjie, Deng Aiping, and Liu Xiuhua—took turns torturing me around the clock.

I was diagnosed with advanced-stage leukaemia in January 2011. My white blood cell count was very low, and I was in critical condition. I stayed in the prison hospital for two months. I was injected with unknown drugs on January 11th, 2011, and I had a headache and felt dizzy for days. I kept collapsing when I tried to walk and had chest pain. I refused any more medication, and they did not give me any more injections after I talked to the prison hospital president.

I was taken to the Guangzhou First People's Hospital on January 17th, 2011, and they took a bone marrow sample. They took a bone marrow sample a second time on February 24th. Personnel from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) who were watching said, “Others scream in pain when their bone marrow is taken, yet you don't look like you're in pain at all.” They injected me with more unknown drugs. A few days after I was returned to the prison, the physician in the prison's hospital took some x-rays and said, “You are healthy except for a few gallbladder stones.”

The prison was probably afraid that I might end up dying there, so they asked my family to take me home on March 18th, 2011. I went home nine months before my prison term was to end. The symptoms of chest pain, back pain, headache, and fever were all caused by the injections that I had been given against my will in the prison hospital. Those symptoms disappeared after regular studying the Falun Gong teachings.

Lu Chunyan and three other police officers from the Yuelai Police Station of Zhongshan come to my home often to check on me. They are surprised to see me in such good health and spirits.

Note

1. "Death Bed" torture: A practitioner is tied to a bed with his hands handcuffed above his head to the bed rails, and his legs tied with thin nylon ropes. The rope is then tightly wrapped around the practitioner's body and the bed, from his legs to his chest. The rope is wrapped so tightly that the practitioner has difficulty breathing and eventually loses consciousness.
