Appeal from Germany to Rescue Liu Hongbo and Zhang Xinxing

Liu Hongbo, male, 32 years old. He was a former staff worker for the Dalian Branch of the Bank of China and was widely regarded as a good person for thinking of others first.

In 1999, he was forced out if his job because of his practise of Falun Gong. In December 1999, he was illegally detained in the Dalian Yaojia detention centre because he appealed for Falun Gong in Beijing. However, after beginning a hunger strike he left the detention centre three days later.

Hongbo was again arrested on the 21 July 2001, this time by the Dalian Security Section and was sent to the Dalian Yaojia detention centre again. He family have been forbidden to see him for over a year and he has been sentenced to 10-years imprisonment without proper legal procedures. His appeals for a fair trial have been ignored and his family were not notified of the verdict. The latest situation is unknown.

Zhang Xinxing, female, 28 is a former teacher in the Dalian University Medicine School. In October 2000, she was illegally detained in Beijing because she appealed for Falun Gong. She was transferred and kept in a drug clinic for 2 months. During this time, she was separated from her 2-month-old baby, who she was breastfeeding at the time.

In Oct 2001, she was kidnapped again and sentenced to 2 years of labour ‘re-education’. She is currently detained at the infamous Liaoning Masanjia Labour Camp.
