Agents from the 610 Office of Tianjin City arrested practitioners in the name of preparing for the Olympic Games. There are 21 practitioners listed on the name register of Dagang District. Zhang Gaoli, chief of Chinese Communist Party in Tianjin City, secretly came to Dagang District to assume personal command, compelling work units, families and individuals to promise they would not go out to participate in group activities or appeal to the government or other things of this nature. The Political and Judiciary Committee of the Chinese Communist Party of Dagang District, Tianjin City, 610 Office, and the police participated in these arrests and the harassment of Falun Gong practitioners.

On May 23rd, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Zhou Ling was arrested and detained at the Huaian City Detention Centre. According to sources, Zhou Ling has already been sentenced to one-year of forced labour. Before Ms. Zhou's arrest, Falun Gong practitioner Hu Yunqin, another nurse in-charge at the Huaian City Chinese Traditional Medical Hospital, was arrested on April 15th from her work place. Hu Yunqin was brutally tortured, both physically and mentally, and she still suffers from extreme pain, even after being released. Her left eye was beaten badly, causing bleeding and vision blurring.

Ms. Zhang Tieliu, in her 60's, lived in Shanwei City. After practising Falun Gong, she became healthy both physically and mentally. One day in April 2008, personnel from the Shanwei City 610 Office broke into Ms. Zhang's home. They ransacked her house without showing any legal documents and took away her Falun Gong book and an MP3 player. They sent Ms. Zhang to Sanshui Brainwashing Centre in Guangdong Province.

When Mr. Zhu Xingfu, 58, and other practitioners raised a banner at Tiananmen Square in Beijing to announce their disagreement of the persecution of Falun Gong with the regime sometime between July 20th, 1999 and 2001, a group of police officers violently beat them before sending them to a detention centre in a Beijing suburb. The police there greeted them with punches, kicks and slaps in the face. Mr. Zhu's face and mouth were bloody and bruised. The police continued to beat him the next day. A policeman kicked him so hard that he fell to the ground. The policeman stomped on his body and continued kicking him. Mr. Zhu could not even stand up. They stripped him of his clothes and continued to beat him. His knees were injured so badly that he could not move his legs.

Officials from the Jiujiang Domestic Security Department, the Politics and Law Committee, and the 610 Office recently commenced another round of persecution and suppression of Falun Gong under the pretext of "Olympic Safety" and "Harmonious Society." Besides sending citizens "public letters" via mobile phone text message to emphasize the "urgency" of this campaign, they hired more than one thousand local security men--mostly jobless and retired people--to monitor, harass and arrest practitioners, in complete violation of the Chinese constitution.

Li Hong, Shapingba 610 Office head, the District Domestic Security Division head in Chongqing and other Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel arrested retired teacher Mr. Lei Zhengxia and terrorized his wife Li Weiqun. The arrest took place because the couple told them that Falun Gong is treated unjustly, and that reports on the TV, in newspapers and other media defaming Falun Gong are untrue. The couple suffered a brutal beating. Lei Zhengxia sustained two broken ribs. He haemorrhaged internally and was in critical condition.

Mr. Hong Haoyuan was a university graduate in his 20s. Early in 2000 he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested by the 610 Office of the Chaozhou City Police Department and was sentenced to two years at Sanshui Forced Labour Camp. While there, he was inhumanely tortured and persecuted for practising Falun Gong. Before his arrest he was a handsome and strong young fellow, but by the time of his release, he was just a bag of bones and could barely walk or breathe. Relatives and neighbours could hardly recognize him. He was extremely weak and passed away in the early hours of January 5th, 2003.

On January 3rd, 2008, six or seven police officers broke into Falun Gong practitioner Zhao Juanjuan's home and ransacked it. They took away his printer, Falun Gong books, leaflets exposing the persecution, and other personal belongings. On January 18th, Zhao Juanjuan was accosted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police again on the street. Four police officers (three male and one female) forcefully lifted her into the vehicle and took her to the Third Detention Centre in Zhuhai. Because Zhao Juanjuan exceeded the age limit, the detention centre did not accept her. Another detention centre also refused to accept her. Since none of the detention centres would accept her, she was taken back home at 5pm, but was treated brutally by police.

In 2001, Mr. Lu Jinquan, his wife, Ms. Geng Jianhua, and his younger sister, Ms. Lu Jinfen, were all taken into custody at the same time and sentenced to two years of forced labour. Ms. Geng Jianhua was handcuffed and hung up by police for 17 hours, disabling one of her hands. She still cannot move it easily to this day. When he returned home after his release from the labour camp, Mr. Lu continued to be unceasingly harassed by the authorities. He was not allowed to return to his original position as a group level military officer in the army and was assigned to guard a car park.

On October 18th, 2007, when Falun Dafa practitioner Zhu Guilin was going downstairs in her home, 610 Office agents, who had been waiting downstairs, grabbed her and dragged her down. Zhu Guilin's clothes were torn and her upper body was exposed. Zhu Guilin shouted that officials were arresting an innocent person. A number of bystanders witnessed the arrest, and many of them denounced the officials' conduct. In spite of sharp criticism from the bystanders and the protest of her family, these people forcibly took Zhu Guilin to the Changde City Brainwashing Centre. Zhu Guilin started a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was brutally force-fed.

On March 15th, 2007, 610 Office officials went to the Career Training College of Wanyuan City. They asked the school to cooperate with them to arrest one of their computer teachers, Mr. Xiong Zhengming, a Falun Gong practitioner. Esteemed by both his colleagues and the parents of his students, Mr. Xiong even used his own money to help the less fortunate students in his class. He was arrested while he was teaching a class. Both students and teachers adamantly protested Mr. Xiong's arrest but to no avail. The police then broke into his room and took away some of his belongings, including his computer. He was sentenced to a year and a half of forced labour and taken to the No. 2 Detention Centre of Wanyuan City. On December 3rd, he was transferred. Mr. Xiong's whereabouts are now unknown.

Ms. Yang Wenjie had been unlawfully sentenced to three years of forced labour for refusing to give up her beliefs. Her term in the forced labour camp ended in February 2005, but officials at the 610 Office took her directly to the brainwashing centre, where she was held for nine months. She was then sentenced to three more years of forced labour. One year later, officials from the labour camp notified her family that they could take her home, but members of the 610 Office took her to the brainwashing centre once again. At the centre, she was abused so brutally for six months that she almost died. Fearful that they would be held responsible for her death, officials from the brainwashing centre allowed her to be taken home in February 2007.

Editor's note: The following is an internal fax urgent notice from the Chinese Communist Party Committee of Weifang City:"The posting and distribution of Falun Gong's anti-revolutionary promotional materials has attracted much attention from leaders of the central government. Therefore, the central 610 office has initiated a secret inspection across the entire country and has taken severe action in those specific regions that didn't eradicate all of Falun Gong's anti-revolutionary promotional materials in a timely or thorough manner. Our city has many Falun Gong practitioners, and the anti-revolutionary promotional materials have been distributed widely and in large quantities. As a result, we demand all of the work units to pay attention to this clean-up work as a political task. On receiving this notice, all working units must immediately call for a meeting to mobilise the clean up work on Falun Gong's anti-revolutionary promotional materials."

In the autumn of 2005, Ms. Feng Yuping was arrested at a market and taken to the Pingdu City 610 Office for brainwashing. Without any criminal evidence, she was admitted to the Zibo City Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province for one and a half years. Ms. Feng Yuping's mind has become dazed due to the torture. Also in 2005, police from Mencun Town Police Station and the staff from the Pingdu City 610 Office arrested Ms. Guo Huisheng. She was tortured at the Pingdu City 610 Office for two months. Her family had several thousand yuan extorted from them in exchange for her release.

Ms. Song Xiuyu is a 67-year-old retired doctor and Falun Gong practitioner. For the last eight years Ms. Song has been subjected to psychological and physical torture because she would not give up practising Falun Gong. Over the past few years, the local authorities have extorted several thousand yuan from Ms. Song each time she was released from detention. On October 10th, 2007, three policemen forced their way into Ms. Song's home and ransacked it. They arrested Ms. Song, who is now, once again, in Muling City Detention Centre.

As the 17th Chinese Communist Party National Congress began, Ningxia 610 Office agents reopened a brainwashing facility that had been closed for more than three years. To enable the authorities to arrest Falun Dafa practitioners, they resorted to the most despicable and sinister means. They resorted to fraud, coercion, threats and other outrageous means to arrest practitioners. Practitioners Mr. Ma Zhiwu and Mr. Zheng Yongxin were sentenced to six years in Guyuan Prison. They began hunger strikes to protest their imprisonment and persecution. Because of the tremendous pain and grief caused by nearly 8 years of persecution, Mr. Zheng's family was broken up.

Cheng Xiaodong (male) is head of the 610 Office in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. Since July 20th, 1999, he has used all kinds of ruthless tactics to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. As a result, many practitioners have been detained, taken to the brainwashing centre, or taken to the mental hospital for persecution. Some of these practitioners have also been taken to the forced labour camp. Two of those who have been been imprisoned are Mr. Zhang Xuefeng and Ms. Liu Kaimei. This couple has been sentenced to long prison terms by the Xiaguan District Court in Nanjing City.

In 2002, when Mr. Liu Xianyan,was exposing the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) lies to students at the Guangchang Middle School, he was arrested by personnel from the 610 Office and imprisoned first for four months, followed quickly by another four months detention. As a result of this harassment, Mr. Liu suffered a mental collapse. His wife, unable to cope with his mental condition, later divorced him. With the kind help and care of other practitioners, Mr. Liu's mental condition gradually improved. In 2005 he was again arrested. Under the intense pressure in the brainwashing centre, Mr. Liu wrote the "Three Statements" to renounce Falun Gong, against his will. The constant threats and harassment caused Mr. Liu to have another mental breakdown, which the 610 Office used to try to convince people that Mr. Liu had become insane from practising Falun Gong.

Officers from the 610 Office and the Regional Administration Office brutally beat four Falun Dafa practitioners simply because they read a leaflet exposing the persecution. On January 24th, 2000, police broke into the home of Mr. Zhuang Chenglin and arrested him. Because Mr. Zhuang refused to answer any questions he was badly beaten. The head of the town government, first slapped Mr. Zhuang. Then others proceeded to punch and kick Mr. Zhuang. The police had Mr. Zhuang take off his trousers and lay down with his arms stretched out. Another group of officers then whipped Mr. Zhuang with bamboo and wooden sticks on the buttocks and all over his body. Five or six police officers took turns hitting Mr. Zhuang with sticks. His body was covered with cuts and bruises afterwards.

Since the beginning of the new term, according to orders from the 610 Office, personnel from the Education Council in Jimo, Shandong Province, again "examined" Dafa practitioners in the education systems in each town and office. The teachers were ordered to write a statement declaring that they had given up Falun Gong and were told that they could teach only after they gave up Falun Gong. If they refused, they would only be allowed to do administrative work. During the 17th Party Congress, in order to prevent all forms of appeals to higher authorities, every sub-system in every local government has had to strictly control and prevent people from seeking legal channels to appeal. According to the 610 Office in Jimo City, between 2 and 3 p.m., every office in each town is ordered report on Falun Gong practitioners in their area and send special people to watch over them.

Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Sun Chongzhen and Mr. Chen Guiyun were arrested by agents of the 610 Office and local police on October 8th, 2007. Mr. Chen was taken to a detention centre and his wife was forced to leave home to avoid being arrested. In 2003 Ms. Sun Chongzhen was detained at a detention centre. During this period, she was tortured by being hung from the ceiling by her wrists and being put in solitary confinement. During this period, her mother-in-law and her brother passed away, and she was not allowed to see them for a last visit.

Under orders from the city administration and from the 610 Office, beginning on July 20th, 1999, the police began to harass the Falun Gong practitioners in their district by reporting on, registering, threatening, and monitoring them. All of the practitioners had to hand in their Falun Gong books, and any Falun Gong exercise tapes, and they had to submit guarantee statements [to abandon the Falun Gong practice and not travel to Beijing for appeals]. If they refused, they would be searched and fined and have their belongings confiscated. Practitioners were also required to report to officials every morning and evening. Within several days they would be told to show up for written reports.

On May 31st, 2007, Jiexi Police Station officers arrested Falun Dafa practitioners Mr. Yang Yuxin and his wife, Ms. Zhen Haiyan. The couple had been married for only one month. Police officer Zhang Shibin pointed a handgun at Mr. Yang Yuxin's head while four or five agents carried him to a vehicle. On August 27th, 2007, Mr. Yang Yuxin was tortured to death in police custody. After Mr. Yang had been tortured to death, on September 10th, officers arrested Ms. Zhen for the second time. While they were carrying out the arrest, they said, "You appealed, didn't you? We are arresting you because you appealed." Police fear that Ms. Zhen will sue them and their crimes will be exposed. They are hiding the evidence.

At about 3:30 a.m. on August 29th, 2007, National Security guards from the 610 Office in Baiding City, Hebei Province, broke into the home of Ms. Sun Jingsu. They entered by climbing over a wall and breaking through a window, and then forcibly took her away. They imprisoned Ms. Sun in a brainwashing centre and tried twice to send her to Shijiangzhuang City Forced Labour Camp, but the camp refused to take her because of her health condition.

In February 2001, police barged into the home of retired practitioner, Ms. Xu Lanzhen and arrested her. At the police station the head of the 610 Office asked Ms. Xu if she would continue to practise Falun Gong, and she replied: "yes." he bound her hands with handcuffs to the iron bars of a window, leaving her toes barely touching the ground. He harnessed her neck with a wire which was tied to the back of a bench and then he ripped off her clothes. He shocked her face repeatedly with a 10,000 volts electric baton. Blisters covered her face and the smell of burnt flesh filled the room. She suffered so much pain that she could hardly breathe. They continued hitting her head and shocking the sensitive body parts such as the face, neck, underarms, and hands, etc. She cried out in pain.

Ms. Wu Bilin, 59, went to the family housing area of the "288 Plant" in the Huangpi District to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution. A person who was deceived by the propaganda reported her to the police. Officers from the Huangpi District Police Department arrested her, and she is being detained at the Chenjiaji Brainwashing Centre. To protest the unjust detention, Ms. Wu held a hunger strike for several days. Hu Shaobin (male) with the Jiang'an District 610 Office incited inmates to force-feed her with vinegar and chilli water several times a day. They also violently struck her.

Ms. Zhang Ping, 76, suddenly went missing on June 1st, 2007. Her family members and friends tried various ways to enquire of her whereabouts. They eventually discovered that agents from the Rizhao City 610 Office had arrested and locked her up at a detention centre. This is the eighth arrest for Ms. Zhang. Why does the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) "610 Office" fear an elderly woman?

Since he took on his position in 2002, Chen Yiming, Director of the 610 Office in Changsha County, Hunan Province has closely followed the Jiang Zemin's regime policy to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners and has done many shameless things. On June 14th, 2006, Chen Yiming suspected that Mr. Li Xuangang was explaining the facts about Falun Dafa to people and arrested him. Chen threatened his family by saying, "Li must be "transformed" and give up Dafa, otherwise he will be sentenced from five to seven years in prison. That is what the 610 Office will do to him." He ordered Mr. Li's family members to cooperate with him and report other practitioners to him. But Chen sent Mr. Li to the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp in Chashang shortly afterwards.

From the evening of June 22nd, 2007, to the early morning of June 23rd, 2007, nearly 100 people from the state security office and police stations headed by the Macheng City 610 Office in Hubei Province, broke into practitioners' houses all over the city. The police ransacked homes, confiscating property and arresting practitioners after climbing over walls and breaking down doors. According to police reports, 19 practitioners were arrested. Additionally, three practitioners refused to cooperate and avoided arrest. Mr. Bai Zijian's wife did not cooperate with the police and was beaten unconscious several times. The beatings only stopped after the neighbours had been awakened and came over to condemn the police.

Practitioner Mr. Zhang Weijie was taken into custody by police officers from the Wuhan City Police Department. His wife, Ms. Chen Man, went to Wuhan City 610 Office to request his release. Later, she was tricked into going to the Jiangan District Brainwashing Centre and detained there. Afterwards, she was transferred to the Erzhigou Women's Labour Camp. On June 24th, Ms. Chen Man's 70-year-old mother, Mr. Zhang Weijie's sister, and other relatives went to the Erzhigou Women Labour Camp to pick up Ms. Chen. Three police cars and one police van drove by, and the police took Mr. Zhang Weijie's sister into custody.

On December 26th, 2006, several agents from the local 610 Office and the police station broke into Mr. Liu Liang's home and arrested Liu Liang and his mother. The authorities attempted to sentence Liu Liang to prison, however due to lack of evidence, Liu Liang was released after a 20-day detention. On June 5th, 2007, Jiaozhou City Police Department went looking for Liu Liang intending to arrest him. Liu Liang met police on the village entrance path. Liu Liang, who was partially sighted, was frightened by the policemen and fell down the well together with his motorcycle. His body did not have bruises or injuries but his stomach was filled with water and it seems that he died from water inside his lungs.

Wang Bo's grandmother, Han Lingrong, is 87 years old. She depends on her family to assist with her daily life needs. However, three 610 Office agents from the Yuhua District Police Department in Shijiazhuang City and from the Yudong Police Station came to her residence on June 21st, 2007, at around 5:00 p.m. They presented a search warrant and stated that someone suspected that Ms. Han had been involved in handing out Falun Gong leaflets and reported her to the police. This claim was so absurd that anyone thinking rationally will find it preposterous. Ms. Han depends on her daughter and son-in-law to take care of her daily life needs. How could she hand out Falun Gong leaflets?

Ms. Qin Shuling, Ms. Jia Shuzhen, Ms. Gao Lanqing, and Mr. Li Zhenwen went to Yongan Village to post Falun Dafa leaflets exposing the persecution on May 27th, 2007. The patrols spotted them before they could post more than a few. Ms. Qin and Ms. Gao were arrested and Ms. Jia and Mr. Li were followed home. The police ransacked their homes and arrested them that same night. Hebei Province Brainwashing Centre returned Ms. Jia Shuzhen to her home on June 19th. In just ten days, the 610 Office personnel had turned a young, beautiful, and gentle Jia Shuzhen into a lifeless, incoherent, and red-eyed disturbed person.

Around the months of June and July, the Xiong County 610 Office and Public Security Bureau officers are putting together a special task force targeting Falun Gong practitioners. It was further reported that a special fund was allocated for this task force. A significant sum of money was to be awarded for each "successful" case. In other words, through monetary rewards, law enforcement officers are encouraged to commit crimes, arrest law-abiding citizens, and extort money from them.

On March 13th, 2007, a village official reported Ms. Ke Gui'e after she was explaining to him about the true nature of Falun Gong. Police extorted 1,2000 yuan from her. At the beginning of May 2007, Ms. Ke was taken to a brainwashing centre against her will. After one month, she still firmly kept her belief in Falun Dafa, and she refused to accept the brainwashing. Authorities would not let her return home.

We are the parents-in-law of 57-year-old practitioner Ms. Hu Nianxian. Our daughter-in-law was arrested on May 14th, 2007, by agents of the 610 Office simply because she believed in the universal law of Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance. They broke into her home and, without any explanation, a couple of muscular men took her away. Why did they have to use several car-loads of men to arrest her? In fact, if they still had a little bit of kindness, they would have heard the desperate cries from the two little girls after they came home from school. "Who has taken my granny away?

Agents from the 610 Office and local government extorted 5,000 yuan from a Falung Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Meiying when she was released from prison. They told Ms. Zheng Meiying that she would not be allowed to go home. They took her to the Huanglong Mountain Resort to detain her. Ms. Zheng's parents had just met with their daughter after 5 years of separation, and they were told that their daughter was not allowed to go home. Those officers then went to a restaurant and shamelessly squandered the extorted money.

Mr. Chen Jinshu, 50, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Hong Kong. On April 16th, 2007, several state security officers arrested Mr. Chen Jinshu in Shenzhen. According to a number of different sources, Mr. Chen is now imprisoned in Baoan Detention Centre. According to a reliable source, the police interrogated Mr. Chen in the detention centre to find out if he had contacted practitioners in Shenzhen. The arrest of Mr. Chen Jinshu was a blow to his family. Chen's father repeatedly passed out after he heard the news. To this day, Chen's family does not know which justice or law enforcement department is responsible for Chen's arrest.

On April 24th, 2007, policemen arrested Mr. Liu Yonghui and his wife, Ms. Zhai Huiling, while he was working. At around 2:00 p.m. on April 24th, a group of police officers took Mr. Liu to his home. His mother, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Tiezhen, refused to open the door, so the officers broke in and ransacked his home. Afterwards, they took him away. His mother, and his mother-in-law, who lives in another city and had come to visit them, and his and his wife's baby, who is less than two years old were left at home. Two days later on April 26th, the police returned to arrest Ms. Yang Tiezhen.

Ms. Yang Wenjie is 45 years old. At the beginning of the persecution, her employer fired her because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. She went to Beijing to appeal for justice and was held in a detention centre for eight months. After that, officials from the 610 Office sentenced her again to three years in a forced labour camp. Ms. Yang was tortured for five years because she refused to renounce her belief. When she was finally released in March 2007, she saw her son for the first time in five years. He had grown up and looked like an adult. Everyone who witnessed this cried.

Around 9:00 p.m. on September, 22nd, 2002, Ms Guo Xiumei was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in the city. She was found dead the next morning in the residential area of the Xiguan District in Huaiyang County. According to an eyewitness, the dead person was a forty-some-year-old female. Her face was purple and black, the left eye socket was empty, the neck was bruised, and the chest had fist-size bruising and injuries. She was lying face down looking west. There were signs of a struggle. One eye was wide open and her face was frozen in an expression of extreme terror. Her children and relatives could only recognise her clothing, not her face.

Ms. Zhu Guilin, 43, has been detained in Baimalong Forced Labour Camp since 2004 and has suffered brutal torture. She has now served her so-called "forced labour term" but the labour camp still refuses to release her. Prisoners often beat Zhu Guilin. In July 2005, because she didn't stand up to do the morning calisthenics, the prisoners dragged her out and beat and verbally abused her, right in front of the guards. Another time she was beaten until she lost consciousness. On April 9th, when her family visited her, they saw that she was covered with wounds everywhere, on her face, her head, elbows, knees, legs, and so on. There were three burns on her hands. Several places on her body had festered.

According to incomplete statistics as of late 2006, the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in Shenzhou can be summarised as follows: 23 practitioners were tortured to death; 21 practitioners were sentenced in prison; 130 practitioners were sentenced to forced labour; 599 practitioners were detained on 1,239 occasions in total; 1,401 practitioners were called/interrogated by police 5822 times in total; 30 practitioners were on the wanted list; 481 practitioners' houses were ransacked a total of 647 times; 1,197,429 yuan in fines.

On February 9th, seven policemen, went to Huang Jinling's home, arrested her, and searched her home without any legal permission. On March 21st, when Huang Jinling's sister visited her, Huang Jinling told her how she was tortured from March 5th to March 8th. She was tied to a metal chair for four days in the National Security Division. Her hands and feet were swollen from being tied for so long. The skin on her buttocks peeled off. It was at the end of her one-month detention. Why did they need to interrogate her with force? Apparently the arrest of Huang Jinling was revenge.

On April 5th, 2006, some Falun Gong practitioners put up exposing the persecution on their way to the Zhangjiakou City Wangjiazhai Public Cemetery and the Xiaoxinzhuang Funeral Home. Practitioners displayed banners to mourn for fellow practitioners who had been killed in the persecution. The local 610 Office agents were greatly alarmed by these banners and conducted widespread searches and arrests of seven local practitioners. These practitioners were secretly sent to a prison to be tortured.
