I understand that you will be visiting China soon and would like to take this opportunity to respectfully request your help in securing the release of Falun Gong practitioner Mrs. Yoko Kaneko, who has been incarcerated in a labour re-education camp in China for exercising her basic rights of freedom of speech and belief.

In May 24 2002, the Beijing police arrested Yoko, together with two other Japanese Falun Gong practitioners, when they were distributing leaflets appealing for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong...Their actions were actually noble and harmless to everybody. Out of compassion, they left the comfort of their homes attempting to help the thousands of innocent men, women and children who are unjustly persecuted in China.

"We call on you to raise the case of Mrs. Yoko Kaneko with the Beijing authority during your visit to China. Your help would be invaluable to the campaign for her personal freedom and adds to the international standing of Japan as a liberal and democratic society."

Therefore we appeal to your conscience that you don't cooperate in a persecution campaign against people, who only intend to make the world a little more friendlier, a little more merciful and a little more worth living in."

The millions strong in China who practise Falun Gong have met evil. And despite two years of violent, brutal suppression, these people have not bowed before the oppressor. They have answered brutality with compassion, irrational fanaticism with calm reason, lies and deceit with honesty and plain dealing. In their heroic endurance and fidelity to Falun Gong’s principles of truth, compassion, and tolerance, they have demonstrated to the world how Falun Gong has made them persons of profound moral strength. They have resisted the largest totalitarian government in the world, and done so on their own, no less. Now these brave persons need our help.
