So-called "reform through education centres" are actually brainwashing centres. They operate outside of the Chinese judicial system. The centres were specifically established to brainwash Falun Gong practitioners. These brainwashing centres, which are controlled by local "610 Offices," have been established throughout China. In almost every city, the CCP established brainwashing centres with names like "Holiday Villa" or "Legal Education Centre" or "Legal Education School." Real life examples of Orwellian doublespeak, these names are carefully crafted to cover up the real purpose of the centres. The staff at the brainwashing centres deprive practitioners of their freedom and torture them physically and mentally.

Ms. Gao Jie, 53, was a teacher at the Shuangzhan Elementary School in Chongqing City. She began to practise Falun Gong in 1993, and benefited from the practice physically and mentally. After July 20th, 1999 when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime launched a campaign to eradicate Falun Gong, she has spent most of her time in prison. In June 20th, 2003, Ms. Gao was given a five-year sentence and served the term in Yongchuan Forced Labour Camp. Now, she has again been sent to a brainwashing centre located because she refuses to renounce her belief in Falun Gong.

On May 8th, 2008, Ms. Xu Xiu was arrested at her home by police. Four days later, we heard that she was taken to a brainwashing centre inside the Shaanxi Province Workers Sanatorium and was tortured there. In the brainwashing centre, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members coerce practitioners to watch videos and read materials which slander Falun Gong, and coerce practitioners to write statements of "transformation." They torture steadfast practitioners using psychological means, by isolating them in small cells, depriving them of sleep by non-stop interrogation, exposing them to bright lights, and poisoning their food to make them lose concentration and become dizzy.

Practitioners were forced to view videos that slandered Falun Gong. There were over 100 such videos and a book that defamed Falun Gong. The police also searched practitioners' homes for Falun Gong books, materials and their sources, destinations where the materials were sent, those who taught Falun Gong, whom they practised with, and those who still practised Falun Gong. Each practitioner was monitored by two people. Practitioners' places of employment had to provide money and people to watch these practitioners. It is said that the cost of monitoring one person is ten thousand yuan. If the workplace could not provide people, the 610 Office would do it. They recorded every detail of practitioners' daily lives. They went wherever the practitioners went. Practitioners were not allowed to contact anyone outside of this military camp.

In the brainwashing centre, the practitioners were forced to watch videos and read books with content slandering Falun Gong. They were also forced to write the so-called "guarantee statement". Those who refused to cooperate were tortured with many means, such as being locked up in a small cell, being deprived of sleep during long-term brainwashing sessions, having lights shone in their face and being forced to eat food mixed with drugs which caused practitioners to become bewildered, and to feel dizzy and nervous. For the practitioners that supposedly knew some details that the evildoers were interested in, they were fixed onto an "iron chair", had lights shining their face for extended periods of time, and were deprived of sleep during continuous interrogation. Consequently, a 20-year-old male practitioner became unable to walk.

Luotaishanzhuang Brainwashing Centre was founded in 2003. It is located in the suburban area of the Dongzhou District, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. Its purpose is to detain and forcefully "transform" Falun Gong practitioners. It is publicly labelled the "Liaoning Provincial Love and Care Centre" or "Fushun City's Love and Care School." According to the staff who worked there, since its founding, the centre has detained over 500 practitioners from Shenyang, Dalian, Fushun, Panjin, Tieling, and Huludao cities in Liaoning Province. For every practitioner detained, the CCP appropriates 2,000 yuan. The centre uses collaborators, or former practitioners who have turned against Falun Gong under brainwashing and torture and now assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners, to force practitioners to renounce Falun Gong.

On September 2nd, 2004, practitioner Yang Linxin refused to watch the video that slandered Dafa, so security guard Zheng Ce brutally beat Yang Linxin on the face and asked, "Won't you watch? Won't you watch?" Yang Linxin shouted, "Someone is beating me." Hearing the yelling, guard Cao Shan and other guards rushed into the room and shouted, "Beat him!" They all savagely beat Yang Linxin, and he was knocked down as a result. As they beat him they shouted, "You still dare to shout. We will beat you to death." Yang Linxin was beaten until he was unable to eat or stand up straight. His face was swollen and his chest was covered with bruises.

On the morning of June 20th, 2006, 610 Office officials arrested Ms. Liang Zhengfeng, Ms. Xiang Shiqing, and Mr. Shi Dengling. The three were taken to Liannigou Brainwashing Centre because they had mailed materials about the persecution of Falun Gong to others. The practitioners refused to accept any form of " forced transformation." The police have tortured them so brutally that they are all now disfigured. Their family members have been making efforts to get them released for over a year, but the police refuse to release them.

The Women's Prison has never stopped its persecution of practitioners since its illegal detention of them from the beginning. It uses long-term brainwashing sessions to continuously force practitioners to "transform". The various torture techniques commonly applied in the prison include confining practitioners in a small cell for a long period of time, electrically shocking them, hanging practitioners up by their handcuffs, force-feeding, instigating convicts to beat practitioners and putting them under a constant 24/7 monitoring schedule by the convicts. The imprisoned practitioners are not allowed to talk or smile. The convicts are instructed to read slanderous materials about Dafa to the practitioners non-stop.

Almost all of the practitioners were beaten or verbally abused in the brainwashing centre. Guards stepped on practitioner Mr. Pang Wendong's head and slapped his face fiercely; Mr. Song Naiwen was tortured until he was unconscious. The practitioners were given only three tenths of a pound of food daily and, as a result, became very skinny. Not only were the practitioners relentlessly tortured, the CCP also pressured their families and told them to participate in beating practitioners. When practitioners held hunger strikes, guards force-fed them; the victims' noses and mouths bled when the guards forcibly inserted feeding tubes into the practitioners' stomachs.

Officers from the Zhuolu County 610 Office arrested Ms. Yan Xiaoli, took her to a brainwashing centre because she was caught exposing the truth of the persecution to people, and tortured her for over a month. Ms. Yan refused to cooperate during the brainwashing sessions. In retaliation, the guards forced her to stand still from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. They cut her meals from two to one per day, and each "meal" consisted of only a steamed bun and some pickled vegetables. On two occasions, the guards bound her to an "iron chair" . She was forced to lie still and was unable sleep for the entire night. The next morning, they forced her to resume standing. The guards shouted obscenities at her if she did not stand absolutely still. She was tortured like this for a week, and then was tortured psychologically.

Shulan City Politics and Law Committee officials, along with agents from the 610 Office and police department, held a brainwashing session at the Jishu Town Reservoir, for the purpose of forcing Falun Gong practitioners into giving up their beliefs. They used various methods including bullying and terrifying, lies, slander, intimidation and deception. One person was initially in charge of each practitioner. Later there were two, three and more assigned to one practitioner. Sometimes more than a dozen perpetrators attempted to "reform" one practitioner using the above-mentioned abusive methods.

Mr. Xie Yonggang from Hubei Province, Ms. Du Xiuju from Jiangsu Province and Ms. Wang Xunlan from Shandong Province had been detained for several years because they persevered in their belief in Falun Gong. On the same days they were released from prison, the perpetrators from the 610 Office and other authorities arrested them and took them to brainwashing centres to forcibly transform them. This kind of incident has occurred all over the country.

In Changzhou City, brainwashing sessions are one of the elements of the persecution system. Brainwashing sessions can be held anytime and anywhere. In order to achieve the purpose of "transformation," the heads of the 610 Office in charge of all local cities and regions and all street security and neighbourhood committees send people to participate. These professionally-trained people, upon their release from the forced labour camp, are responsible for "transforming" practitioners. All these people work together to form a persecution group. No money is spared, and a large number of people are employed to provide food and accommodations so they can besiege Dafa practitioners around the clock.

On July 4th at 8:00 p.m., Dafa practitioner Li Xiuwen had just arrived home when two cars stopped by her house. The group was led by Gao Wei, the armed forces minister of Chaluhe Town, Guo Laigang, the deputy chief of Chaluhe Town Police Department, and policeman Liu Guojun. About sixty people gathered around as the police surrounded the home and talked with Mr. Li. Li Xiuwen's mother came out and said, "Why do you want to arrest my son? He is good person." More onlookers came to the scene, and Gao Wei realised that the situation was not good and said, "We will let it go for now." The police then left.

Dear Lei: How are you? Ever since I began practising Falun Gong, I learned the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance which have brought more harmony and joy to our home. However, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute us, it created a lot of unhappiness. Many times, I was arrested, detained, and sentenced to prison terms. What happened to me has brought hardships to you and our family. You and the children and relatives all suffered a great deal, including tremendous financial losses. All that is not supposed to be a burden for us to carry, but has been forced upon us by the Community Party. Someone may say, "If you don't practise Falun Gong, everything will be all right." However, when I turn it around, I ask, "If the Communist Party stops persecuting us, would I need to speak out for justice for Falun Gong?"

Ms. Qin Shuling, Ms. Jia Shuzhen, Ms. Gao Lanqing, and Mr. Li Zhenwen went to Yongan Village to post Falun Dafa leaflets exposing the persecution on May 27th, 2007. The patrols spotted them before they could post more than a few. Ms. Qin and Ms. Gao were arrested and Ms. Jia and Mr. Li were followed home. The police ransacked their homes and arrested them that same night. Hebei Province Brainwashing Centre returned Ms. Jia Shuzhen to her home on June 19th. In just ten days, the 610 Office personnel had turned a young, beautiful, and gentle Jia Shuzhen into a lifeless, incoherent, and red-eyed disturbed person.

On March 13th, 2007, a village official reported Ms. Ke Gui'e after she was explaining to him about the true nature of Falun Gong. Police extorted 1,2000 yuan from her. At the beginning of May 2007, Ms. Ke was taken to a brainwashing centre against her will. After one month, she still firmly kept her belief in Falun Dafa, and she refused to accept the brainwashing. Authorities would not let her return home.

During the past several years, practitioners who were sent there by force had their personal freedoms taken away. The brainwashing centre flooded them with twisted ideology and humiliated them. Other persecution methods included long periods of forced standing and sleep deprivation. Those who persisted in practising Falun Gong were treated more harshly and threatened with being sent to forced labour camps. The practitioners were beaten and verbally abused, and guards flicked the practitioners' eyeballs to keep them from sleeping. They also used toxic oral and intravenous drugs that damaged the nervous system. When practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest the persecution, they were force-fed with a tube inserted into their stomachs. The prison personnel also put drugs into the food and drinking water when they carried out this brutal torture.

On January 3rd, 2002, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Cui Huanying was taken to the brainwashing centre in Wangdu County. When she did not follow the authorities' orders, she was barbarically force-fed, beaten, and whipped with a saw blade across her eyes. She has lost sight in her left eye. the guards tied up Ms. Cui on a "Death Bed", pulled her arms straight, and tied them to wooden clubs in the shape of a cross. Both of her arms became disabled. She can no longer take care of herself.

Li County 610 Office agents abducted Ms. Zhao Limei from her workplace on April 6th, 2007. They put Ms. Zhao in handcuffs and then took her to the Xiaobailou Brainwashing Centre in Baoding City. Cui Wukui, Assistant Principal of TV University and two teachers attempted to brainwash Ms. Zhao. Ms. Zhao demanded to be released. She didn’t eat anything all day. A physical examination revealed that Ms. Zhao had high blood pressure and a rapid heart rate. In the evening the people from the university took her back home. At her doorway the villains tried to take Ms. Zhao’s keys, and she was injured in the struggle. Ms. Zhao Limei was forced into a divorce, and her mother, who’s in her seventies, suffered a lot due to the persecution.

Recently, in order to reach their goal of completely "transforming" former Falun Dafa practitioners who had been forcibly brainwashed, they prepared a rubber figure and said that it was the Teacher of Falun Dafa [Teacher Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa]. The prison guards ordered the brainwashed practitioners to beat the rubber figure to show their complete "disassociation" from Falun Dafa. They organised them to burn Falun Dafa books. Every one of them had to burn at least two books. The prison guards even said that only those who dared to step on the pictures were completely giving up Falun Gong. They would see whether they dared to step on the pictures and to burn the books.

In May 2006, the Hebei Provincial Women's Prison created a so-called "attack team." At first they formed teams comprised of four "collaborators", to surround Dafa practitioners and spread rumours. If practitioners resisted, they were attacked. When practitioners refused to be "reformed", their next step was to carry out the so-called "stewing the eagle," by taking turns torturing Dafa practitioners day and night, and depriving them of sleep.

I was persecuted for not renouncing Falun Gong from that day in July 1999 when the Chinese Communist regime banned Falun Gong. Because, seven years ago, the former head of the Chinese Communist regime, Jiang Zemin, gave the order "to destroy them physically, starve them financially and destroy them mentally and spiritually," I lost my basic right to earn a living and live a normal life. I was harmed physically and mentally. Because of the rule "guilt by association," my family and relatives suffered and still suffer from this persecution.

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhao Benyong was imprisoned for five years and persecuted. On the day of his release from prison, 610 Office personnel took him to a brainwashing centre in Chengdu City. Zhao Benyong's family members went to the relevant authorities to ask for his release, but to no avail. In the process, his mother and younger brother were detained at Bazhong Police Department of Sichuan Province.

One day, guard Jiao said to me disappointedly, "Zhang Yijie, all that we are allowed or forbidden to do, we've made you suffer them." I then responded. "But, do you know the outcome of your actions?" She looked at me diffidently and with eyes widely open. I said calmly: "Let me tell you, all the things you did to me could only make me stronger and my mind firmer." Jiao had nothing to say to me anymore. Jiao knew that her evil deeds had done everything but kill me. But she also knew in her heart that even if she had taken my life, she still couldn't destroy my belief.

One day at 1 a.m., the guards locked all the metal gates in the hallway. Two guards and five or six drug addict inmates brutally beat practitioner Ms. Lang Dongyue. These inhuman people also assaulted Ms. Lang sexually and used high-heel shoes to step on her over and over again with as much force as possible.
One morning, despite it being very cold outside, Jiao ordered all practitioners to go outside and knit there. When we returned after four hours, everything in the Class Three room was scattered around. There was a great mess. We also saw five criminals surrounding practitioner Tao and brutally beating her. The heating pipe was broken, too. Ms. Tao's chest and stomach were injured and she had pain when breathing. Her private parts were also injured.

There are about 130 people in each team in the camp, 90 per cent of whom are practitioners. There must be at least 1,000 practitioners in the camp, but they are never given the task of cooking. Only drug addicts, prostitutes, pimps, pornography vendors, and thieves can work in the kitchen. [Chinese buns are supposed to be fluffy and slightly sweet], but practitioners are constantly served with sticky buns, sour buns, salty buns, or rock-hard buns. Boiled vegetables taste like swill and constantly contain worms, bugs, flies, weed stems, and a residue of dirt on the bottom. Later the menu improved slightly and streaky pork or boiled pork skin was added to the menu twice a week but in meagre rations. In fact, many practitioners often don't get any pork at all. Occasionally fried eggs were added to the menu but meagrely rationed as well.

When you, as a practitioner, are tortured to force you give up your belief, this is a test: Will you have anger inside your heart when you see that other detainees are showing off and dumping their leftover food into the rubbish bins on purpose or depriving you of your meals in front of your eyes while you don't have enough food to eat? Will you still be indifferent and care little about your physiological desires when you see in front of your eyes that other detainees are chewing and enjoying the charcoaled chicken and sausages on purpose brought from the shop inside the labour camp while you're not allowed to buy anything from there? Will your heart still be peaceful when you are forced to stay up all night long under the surveillance of the collaborators and the guards while others are sleeping soundly?

After the persecution started, I went to appeal on July 21st, 1999. My employer, the Foreign Trade Ministry of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), tried to force me to give up cultivating Falun Dafa, so that I could be "on the same page" as the CCP. My family also tried to convince me. My oldest brother was the most active of my three older brothers. My father, a history teacher, cooperated with him. Once, they suddenly locked me up in a room and tried many ways to force me to give in. My father used many historical stories about how people had been wrong. My oldest brother is a provincial civil minister. He is in charge of persecuting Falun Gong in that province. He knows clearly the CCP's plan to eradicate Falun Gong. They thought they could save me from disaster and stop me from ruining my reputation and losing profit or ruining my family.

They watched me around the clock and made sure I did not fall asleep or take a nap. They took turns brainwashing me, and they also made me watch videos that slandered Teacher and Dafa. One shift was before midnight and the other shift was after midnight. They loudly claimed that I was "psychologically controlled". In order to confuse me and create self-doubt, they kept saying it over and over, and the guards said it repeatedly at all meetings. On the other hand, they watched my every move, facial expression and mood. They seized on the slightest subconscious move I made to prove their point, that I was manipulated and possessed. After this experience I understood why and how some people had a mental collapse.

Practitioner Mr. Chen was sent to Hongze Lake Prison, where the prison had established tactics to "transform" practitioners. They first of all studied an imprisoned practitioner's background and then asked former practitioners, who turned against Falun Gong under brainwashing and torture (collaborators) to go to the practitioner's home to pretend to comfort his family members. The whole process was videotaped and then shown to the practitioner involved, in an attempt to "transform" that practitioner by taking advantage of his affection for his family. Then they ordered the collaborators to force the practitioner to watch slanderous DVD programes and share their "understandings."

"I was arrested and taken to a brainwashing class. Dafa practitioners were constantly beaten, insulted and deprived of sleep. Those who were tortured would keep going until they became absent-minded or lost consciousness. The policemen then took advantage of their confused state of mind to force them to sign the guarantee statement to renounce Falun Dafa. The policemen used all kinds of torture methods on practitioners. On five occasions, I suffered brutal abuse for more than forty days. They placed handcuffs and foot shackles on me most of the time. One time both of my hands and feet were handcuffed to the window bars for 24 hours, and my hands became completely bruised."

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Xiao Huiqing, in her fifties, is an elementary school teacher. On November 28th, 2003, she gave one of her students a leaflet exposing the persecution. She was reported and sentenced to three years of forced labour. Her term ended on November 28th, 2006, but officials to the Erequan Brainwashing Session.

After July 20th, 1999, Mr. Xie Hongmin went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa and hoped the state leaders would stop persecuting Falun Gong. He was arrested in Beijing and sent back to Chengdu City. He was first detained in Chengdu Drug Rehabilitation Centre. Then he was sent to Dayan Forced Labour Camp for one year of forced labour. After his release, he was kept under surveillance by his local hometown government. He was arrested for leaflets exposing the persecution and sentenced to four years of forced labour and sent to Guangyuan Forced Labour Camp.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiumei was sentenced to four years in prison in 2001 for persisting in her belief. She is still held at the Jiuzhou Development Zone Prison in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. The guards coerced her to write a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Dafa and frequently brainwashed her, shocked her with electric batons, and beat her.

Two years ago, I heard from a friend, a policeman involved in the persecution of Falun Gong, about how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. Before that, I had only heard about Falun Gong and the crackdown from the CCP-controlled television media, but I did not know any details. After listening to my friend, however, I understood how brutally the persecution was conducted and how the CCP and its followers had done such a thing to destroy people's humanity.

So-called "attending class" at the brainwashing centre is to force practitioners to listen to, watch and read propaganda against Dafa and to sing Chinese Communist Party songs. So-called "doing exercises" is to get the practitioners out of the cell at 6:00 a.m. and have them run two laps in the yard first. Then they are forced to walk military style, with their legs extending straight out and lifted at a 45 degree angle. If one cannot do it well, he is whipped from behind. If practitioners refuse to comply, the punishment can range from being beaten to being dragged into the "repentance room" where one would be handcuffed for up for 48 hours. The brainwashing centre forces practitioners to do hard labour planting vegetables.

Policemen Lai Jianfeng and Yang Yongcheng directed guards to subject practitioners to various forms of abuse. At first, practitioners were only allowed to sleep for two or three hours a day. They were tied up with their feet crossed, and a rope looped around the neck tied to the rope binding their legs together. Soon the practitioners would feel terrible pain in their lower back, neck, legs, and feet. Screams of pain were frequently heard in the middle of the night.

The brainwashing centre forces practitioners to watch videos and recordings slandering Dafa, and uses former practitioners that have turned against Dafa. One such former practitioner is Miao Chunyan, who has come up with all kinds of phony theories to try to confuse and drag down true practitioners. Every morning, two of the people from each room report their progress to the leaders. As long as practitioners do not write the "four statements", they are not released. If over time the practitioners still do not give in, they are physically abused, sent to prison, or sent to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. Sometimes the practitioners are sent back to the brainwashing centre to be further tortured.

Since July 20th, 1999, encouraged by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the Guizhou Province Lannigou Brainwashing Centre has held several dozen brainwashing sessions. Personnel closely monitor Falun Dafa practitioners: there are three monitors for each practitioner. Of the three monitors, two watch the practitioners 24 hours a day, and the third one is in charge of the brainwashing materials. The CCP officials use all sorts of inhuman means to reach their brainwashing goals. They have even deceived practitioners into taking drugs that damage the nerves.

Early in the morning on August 11th, 2006, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zheng Rongchang was forced from his home and taken to the 610 Office brainwashing centre. He is followed no matter if he is eating, sleeping, and even using the toilet. As soon as he wants to do the exercises, someone will stop him immediately. He is forced to watch videos that slander Falun Gong, or listen to fabricated nonsense in order to force him to write the "four statements" to renounce Falun Dafa. The 610 Office Head said to him, "You were raised by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and you are against the CCP. You must be mentally ill, and I want to lock you up in the mental hospital."

I just came out of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. The camp had tried all means to persecute me and make me give up Falun Dafa. When I was initially sent to the labour camp, the guards and the collaborators were very "nice" to me. They showed their particular "care" in their attitude of talking and how they treated me in daily life. Never be deceived by them. After a while, their true intentions were revealed. Each air particle in Masanjia is soaked with evil, and it makes people feel suffocated.

This brainwashing centre was built with the hard-earned money collected from the general population by the Chinese Communist Party. It is used to persecute practitioners who follow the principles of "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance." On June 12th, 2006, Luo Gan, Zeng Qinghong, and other perpetrators came to Harbin. Since that time, the 610 Office in Harbin has escalated the torture against practitioners and held many brainwashing sessions. They take turns holding the brainwashing in different regions of the city. Each region assigns the task of arresting practitioners to street committees, which in turn assigns the task to local communities. They first deceive the practitioner, saying that he needs to come for a meeting. If he refuses, they will drag him to the Jiangbei brainwashing centre.

In July 2000, we asked many people before finding out that my father had been sentenced to two years of forced labour. My mother and I immediately went to the labour camp with some clothes for him. I then saw him for the first time since his disappearance. The detainees were doing heavy manual labour and turning over sand for casting iron. Then a man walked up to me. I looked at him carefully and finally recognised my father. He used to be strong and healthy, but at that point he was skin and bones. His hands were deeply bruised by the coarse sand. I lost control and cried loudly.

During the seven years of persecution where the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, the brainwashing centres have been the most deceptive, even as they persecute the largest number of practitioners. The brainwashing centres are called "Legal and Discipline Education Centres" in public, and the people are misled by their deceitful methods. The public is led to believe that these classes are to educate Falun Gong practitioners. They are in fact brainwashing centres that the Chinese Communist Party uses to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

I am a 74-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner. Since the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, the local police have arrested and detained me any time they wanted and brutally abused and persecuted me while I was held in detention. While I was held at the Mapingba Brainwashing Centre two officers grabbed my hair and started to beat and kick me. My arms turned black and blue and swelled from the beating. They subsequently handcuffed me to the monkey bar. I was forced to stay under the scorching sun for several hours. They beat me every few days and "baked" me, as well as verbally insulted me. I almost lost consciousness from dehydration. The police were vicious and completely devoid of human nature.

The "instructors" take food to practitioners' bedrooms. Practitioners are not allowed to get their own food. The purpose of this rule is so they can drug the food. The different kinds of drugs come either in liquid or powder form. They use different kinds of drugs for different practitioners. Generally they put drugs in water and regular meals, but sometimes they inject brainwashing drugs into particular foods or even fruits. The drugs will take effect in about half an hour. The main symptoms are headaches, dizziness, protruding eyes, sleepiness (some practitioners feel sleepy after over 10 hours of sleep per day and are still lethargic) shortness of breath, chest pain and irritability.

In order to force Falun Gong practitioners to "transform," (give up practising Falun Dafa) the Hunan Provincial Women's Prison conducted brainwashing sessions many times inside the prison. The brainwashing sessions were designed to break down the steadfast practitioners, and thus the suffering of practitioners was intensified, both mentally and physically. They ordered practitioners to recite the prison regulations, and tried to brainwash practitioners with all sorts of deceit. Whoever refused to obey them, they punished at will by forcing her to stand, putting handcuffs on her, forcing her to "carry a sword in back" (a cruel form of handcuffing which causes severe bodily injury), putting her into solitary confinement and so on.

If the practitioner is very firm, the collaborators start their plan of attack. They take the Falun Dafa texts and quote out of context, carelessly twisting and misinterpreting the teachings in order to confuse the practitioners. If the practitioners remained unmoved, they start a "weary war." During the day they besiege the practitioners, instilling them with their distorted principles non-stop, around the clock. This continue until late at night, and sometimes deprive the victims from any sleep until the next morning. They use physical torture such as extensive and prolonged standing and freezing the victims in the cold until physically worn out. The victims are then compelled to sign the "three statements".

The police's mentality is split. On the one hand, they have to employ their animal nature to brainwash the practitioners. Yet, on the other, they disguise the evil with a false front of human nature to lead practitioners astray. To sing the Same Song, they present their human nature for others to see. They force themselves to believe that beating up and yelling at people every day is a form of kindness done for the tortured person's own good. They think that by implementing the "law" (though in fact the persecution of Falun Gong is entirely illegal) they can avoid personal responsibility. In reality, however, they are very clear who is in contempt of the law. They cling to the communist heaven-on-earth illusion despite its inherent evil nature.

"Later my father witnessed that the torture of practitioners in the brainwashing centre became more and more brutal. One practitioner was deprived of sleep. They were so sleepy that they fell to the floor. Consequently their mouth and teeth were injured. They even wrote sentences slandering Dafa on a practitioner's clothes. There have been many cases like this. My father found himself being deceived. Later, he managed to escape from the brainwashing centre. Fearing that I would escape too, they tightened their monitoring on me."

Communist regime agents are still persecuting Dafa practitioners. On May 20th, 2005, they held another brainwashing session and arrested nearly 200 practitioners. They physically tortured and mentally tormented them. These corrupt officials forced the practitioners to read articles that slander Dafa and also to watch videos of the same slanderous content. They threatened and intimidated the practitioners that they would only be released if they write guarantee statements to renounce Falun Dafa. If the refused, they would be directly sent to labour camps or prisons.
