  • Older Woman Subjected to Persecution Due to Her Belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance

Because a 63-year-old woman practised Falun Gong and upheld Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, she was forced to leave home and move from place to place, and was also incarcerated in a forced labour camp. In her words: "I was detained and strip searched. They also didn't allow me to do the Falun Gong exercises or study the teachings. Two female guards watched my every move and then reported to the 610 Office agents. There was bits and pieces of glass in my meals, and the mattress I slept on was electrified between midnight to 5 a.m. In less than a week, I had kidney failure, pain in my liver and spleen, and my heartbeat had accelerated. I woke up suddenly every night, so I just got up and did the exercises. My mind was blank, and I lacked strength and vomited blood everyday."
  • The Brutal Persecution of Practitioners in the Hebei Province No. 1 Forced Labour Camp

On January 1st, 2009, in Hebei Province's No. 1 Forced Labour Camp, practitioners resisted body searches and any harassment. Guard Wang Wenping took practitioner Ms. Wang Weiyue to an office, slapped her face more than ten times, and tied her to a torture chair for four days and nights. All the practitioners were brutally tortured. Ms. Bai Fengyu and Ms. Ren Shufen were tied to the torture chair for two days and one night. Ms. Zheng Baohua was tied to that chair for five days and nights. Other practitioners were made to stand in the extremely cold corridor from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Officials from the Jilin City Department of Education and 610 Office Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

Ms. Li Liwen was detained twice in 2000, because she firmly believed in Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She was once sentenced to three years in a forced labour camp. On July 19th, 2006, Gao, the Huanxi Central School principal, obeyed orders from the 610 Office and Education Department in Chuanying District, and tried to drag Ms. Li from the school to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Li resisted and was thus locked in the principal's office. The only choice she had was to leave the school. The day before final exams, Ms. Li was unable to go to work and her students were not able to find their lead teacher.
  • Liu Deyu in Jingmen City, Hubei Province Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

Mr. Liu Deyu is a Falun Gong practitioner in Jingmen City, Hubei Province. On February 4th, 2010, his wife went to the relative department to ask about his situation, but was told that Dongbao District Court in Jingmen sentenced Mr. Liu to a four-year prison term on February 3rd, and he could only appeal until February 8th. Actually the court had made the decision long before but never informed her. It was a lie to claim that he had been sentenced the day before, leaving only four days to appeal. Previously, Mr. Liu was forced to undergo brainwashing and was detained many times. He suffered greatly from continuous abuse and persecution.
  • The Outrages Taking Place at Shanxi Province Women's Prison

When Falun Gong practitioners are sent to the Shanxi Women's Prison, the guards there directly confine practitioners in a solitary confinement cell, where practitioners are forbidden to sleep, wash themselves or even use the toilet. Moreover, the guards allocate tasks to other prisoners, ordering them to "'Transform' [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] practitioners no matter what methods you use." This encourages prisoners there to unscrupulously persecute Falun Gong practitioners in order to curry favour with the prison administration.
  • Elderly Ms. Yue Changzhi Recounts the Torture and Abuse She Experienced in the Beijing Women's Prison

Ms. Yue Changzhi, 70, twice appealed for justice for Falun Gong, and was arrested and detained multiple times. After being forced to leave home to avoid being arrested again, the police put Ms. Yue on a nationwide wanted list. Later, the State Security Ministry arrested her younger daughter in Beijing, tortured her, and finally arrested Ms. Yue Changzhi at her younger daughter's home. They sentenced her to four years in the Beijing Women's Prison. Due to the many tortures she endured, Ms. Yue's life was frequently in danger. Her spine was fractured in two places and because she received no treatment or rest, her spine was seriously bent, and her lower back twisted severely.
  • Righteous Lawyers Overcome Obstacles and Defend Ms. Xie Chunlan, Who Pleads Not Guilty

Xiangfang District Court in Harbin City opened its trial of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xie Chunlan on January 13th, 2010. The presiding judge had intended to hand down an immediate verdict, but failed to do so after Ms. Xie's lawyers convincingly argued for her defence. Before the trial, the local authorities in the Xiangfang District made numerous troubles for Ms. Xie's family, attempting to force them to drop her lawyers. As a result, her family had to change lawyers three times. The court also kept changing the trial location, eventually settling on a very small courthouse in the district. Moreover, they didn't notify the defence lawyers of the location until 30 minutes before the trial was to begin. Despite the court's despicable ploys, Ms. Xie's lawyers still made a rigourous defence on her behalf.
  • Mr. Liu Yuhe's Family Reveals How He Was Tortured in Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Liu Yuhe from Jilin Province was sentenced and sent to Jilin Prison, where he was tortured. His family members' demands for justice have gone unanswered. To protest the persecution, Mr. Liu went on a hunger strike, but the prison guards tortured him with forced feeding. Mr. Liu suffered severe injuries in prison. He lost control of his bowels and bladder and was in critical condition. He was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment. His family authorised a lawyer to sue Jilin Prison officials for abusing him, but the prison authorities threatened the lawyer with retaliation. To rescue Mr. Liu, his family filed an accusation with the Jilin Province justice system, and demanded that he be released on medical parole. They have yet to receive a reply.

She recounts her experience in detention: "An officer struck me, saying that what he did was good for me. I questioned them as to how that could possibly be good for me. Even though I was under arrest, I wouldn't have allowed others to suffer such torture. Then, that officer stood up and hit me again. The left side of my face was bleeding; the right side was stained with blood. After midnight, they took me to a room infested with mosquitoes and handcuffed me to a metal stool."
  • Ms. Li Yunfang from Wuhan City Persecuted Relentlessly

In November, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong. I was arrested and detained in the Erzhigou Detention Centre for 15 days and forced to perform labour for more than 14 hours daily. In December, 2001, I went to Beijing again with other practitioners. We hoped to petition and deliver letters for the right to practise Falun Gong to the Beijing Petition Office. Police took me to the Dongxihu Detention Centre for another 30 days and tortured me. Then they took me to a brainwashing centre. Three people that had renounced Falun Gong beat me and threw me on the ground. My back was injured and was sore for two weeks. They also burned my fingers with a cigarette butt.
  • A Child's Cry for Help: "Please Save My Mum!"

On December 22nd, 2009, at 6:50 in the morning, I opened the door to go to school. A group of people rushed in, and without saying anything, they began to madly take all our Falun Gong materials. They took away many Falun Gong books, two computers (one of which was my dad's work computer), a printer, a cassette recorder, and some CDs and cassettes. After they made a huge mess in my home, they arrested my entire family and took us to Dadong Police Station. Later, they took my mum to Baifang Detention Centre in Dandong City, where she is to this day, still being tortured.

Ms. Li appealed to the Huludao Intermediate Court but the judge, under pressure from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), upheld the original sentence. This was not the first time that Ms. Li has been persecuted for her belief in Falun Gong.

She was subsequently arrested in Beijing and sentenced to 12 years of incarceration and tortured at the Shandong Province Women's Prison. Right before she left the prison in November 2008, prison officials injected her with a harmful cocktail of narcotics and anti-psychotic drugs. The effect of the drugs began to show on the third day after her returning home. She suffered a sudden nervous breakdown, and the symptoms became worse and worse. She started talking nonsense and had involuntary body movements, along with memory loss. Though this happened more than a year ago, her condition has not improved.
