Inside the Labour Camps

  • Masanjia Labour Camp Guards Torture Practitioners to Get Them to Sign a Labour Evaluation Sheet

On October 6th, 2008, guards at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang tried to force Falun Gong practitioners confined in the First Division to sign a Labour Evaluation Sheet. When practitioners refused to sign, they were severely tortured. They were no longer able to walk upright afterwards. The guards pushed practitioners' heads under a bed and handcuffed them. Ms. Wang Chunying and Ms. Wang Haiying were handcuffed like that for three days and nights. Another practitioner was handcuffed for five days. She is now absent-minded and doesn't remember anything.
  • Accounts of Persecution Taking Place in Jiutai Forced Labour Camp of Jilin Province

Mr. Xie Xue, 60, was transfered to the Jiutai Forced Labour Camp on August 29th because he refused to write statements renouncing Falun Gong. He was tortured in the strict discipline division. This practitioner has had a stroke and one side of his body doesn't function well. Practitioners are forced to get up at 4:00 a.m. and sit on the floor facing a wall, with their backs straight and hands behind their backs. They sit in the same position until midnight except when they are in the toilet or having a meal. During the disciplinary period, practitioners are only given half a steamed bun, half of a bowl of rice or vegetable soup for each meal. They are held at the strict discipline division until they write statements renouncing Falun Gong.
  • I Was Imprisoned and Persecuted Three Times at Baimalong Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province

In 2000 I went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Because I stated the truth-- "Falun Gong is truly good"--I was sentenced to one year of forced labour and taken to Baimalong Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zhuzhou City. Because we did not capitulate or cooperate with the authorities, we were severely tortured. Some of us were deprived of sleep for the whole night; some were handcuffed and forced to stand on their tip-toes, causing their hands to bleed; some passed out from being handcuffed; some were put in solitary confinement, and some were forbidden to use the toilet. Some practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest. The police got four to five people to hold one practitioner down and force food into her mouth with a thick bamboo tube while pinching her nose shut.
  • Crimes Observed at the Fangqiang Forced Labour Camp in Jiangsu Province

Local 610 Office agents arrested me without a warrant and took me to a detention centre. They held a covert trial on June 16th, 2000 and charged me with "sabotaging the administration of state law." I declined the services of the court-appointed lawyer and defended myself. I stated, "I am a good person, living simply according to Falun Gong principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. I have broken no law." The verdict was issued on September 28th, 2000, but the court officials waited until December 12th, 2000 to announce it. First, the judge said no criminal conviction would be filed against me, but then the police declared I had been sentenced to two years of forced labour.
  • Reports of Persecution at the Second Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province

The Second Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province uses brutal and inhumane methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. One of them is the use of psychotropic drugs in order to make practitioners suffer mental collapses and force them to renounce Falun Gong. Another inhumane method used at the labour camp is adding poison to practitioners' food so that they are unable to sleep, have difficulty with bowel movement/urination, and have swelling in their feet, making them unable to walk.
  • Policewoman Tortures Practitioners at Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan City

Yan Hongli is a squadron leader in Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan City. Since 1999 she has been torturing Falun Gong practitioners detained there. She spared no effort and was awarded for her fierceness and cruelty; her "excellence" in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. She was very cruel and well known for beating practitioners' faces. She didn't even try to hide it. In October 2004, practitioner Liu Sujun managed to walk free from the forced labour camp. When she was caught and sent back to the forced labour camp that night, Yan Hongli and other police shocked her with electronic batons and locked her in a secret cell near the Education Department in the forced labour camp.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Forced to Perform Slave Labour in Beijing Women's Prison

In the Daxing Women's Prison in Beijing over the past few years, prison police have utilized all forms of brutal, inhumane methods to "transform" [brainwash] Falun Gong practitioners. They have coerced practitioners into performing harsh slave labour to reap higher profits from their products. In the section dedicated to persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, the authorities have forced practitioners to knit clothing and make bags, pencil cases, table cloths, flip-flops and socks. Many times practitioners' hands bled from the labour or they suffered from deteriorating eyesight. Practitioners have also been forced to manufacture products using toxic glue to seal boxes, and many practitioners developed dizziness very soon after doing such work.
  • The Gansu Province First Forced Labour Camp Still Ruthlessly Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners

In January 2008, practitioner Mr. Gu Zeyuan was grossly abused. Guard Li Wenhui beat him ruthlessly, then placed him in confinement for seven days with his limbs stretched in the shape of an "X" and tied between two beds. He developed severe illness symptoms and was first hospitalized and then transferred to the Dashaping Labour Camp Hospital. In June 2008, practitioner Mr. Kang Shangwen refused to be "reformed" [brainwashed]. Division head Han Ximing used the electrical baton to shock Mr. Kang's face, lips, cheeks, and neck while reviling him for nearly 20 minutes.
  • Suihua Forced Labour Camp Guards Intensified Their Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners During the Olympics

The forced labour camp used the slogans such as "Stabilize the environment" and "Create harmony" to incite the increased brutality. They didn't allow the practitioners to drink boiled hot water, make phone calls, purchase goods, or allow them to meet with family members. All practitioners were separated, tied-up, and forced to sing the so-called "transformation" songs, study the camp regulations and orders, and read the "Reporting Lyrics" the guards drew up. If practitioners didn't read or sing, they would face physical brutality or be forced to stand for a few hours, regardless of age. The guards used electric batons and rubber clubs to hit the practitioners. They used ropes to tie them up, burned them with cigarettes, and used fire to burn their fingers and toes.
  • Crimes Committed in the Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp

The Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province is one of many sites that have been used to barbarically torture practitioners, both mentally and physically. They have used lies and other despicable means to force the practitioners to renounce Falun Gong. Many practitioners were injured or crippled, suffered mental breakdown, or even died as a result of the brutal persecution there over the last nine years. Mr. Liu Cheng suffered from the corporal punishment; in addition to the beatings, he was forced to sit on a small stool for a long period of time. Sometimes the guards would hang him up and others forced him to stand still in many different postures.
  • Crimes Committed Inside the Huhhot Women's Narcotic Rehabilitation Centre

Every practitioner is detained in one room, monitored by a drug addict inmate. One or several former practitioners who were "transformed" and had renounced Falun Gong would attempt to change the Falun Gong practitioner's mind. Police uses threats, criticisms, sarcastic greetings, and "chatting" to attempt to force practitioners to "transform". Former practitioners who were "transformed" and had renounced Falun Gong are in charge of slave labour production, which reduces their jail term. They choose the person who works most quickly as a standard to measure others. Practitioners who cannot finish the work are forced to work longer. Even the sixty or seventy year olds are not excluded from punishment. The intense workload has given them blisters and boils on their hands.
  • Intensified Persecution at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp During the Olympics

During the Beijing Olympics in July and August of 2008, Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, escalated the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Guards tortured steadfast practitioners with electric batons, placed them on the "Stretching Bed," This method of torture involves placing a practitioner in the middle of two beds with his or her arms and legs tied to the beds. The beds are then pulled apart. Practitioners have screamed out in unbearable pain from this torture. Guards also forced them to stand in the hot sun for long periods of time, slapped their faces, and beat them.
  • Torture Methods Used to Force Practitioners to Renounce Falun Gong at the Shandong Province Number Two Women's Forced Labour Camp

Practitioners have to endure daily long hours of slave labour, in addition to brainwashing. They worked from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., sometimes till midnight. Aside from going to the toilet, taking half an hour to eat lunch, or doing stand up work, everyone sits on a small bench the entire day. Guards forbid them to talk or to walk freely. Many practitioners who have been detained here, too numerous to mention, have died as a result of torture, suffered a mental collapse, were injured, disabled or came down with various illnesses in recent years.
  • Ms. Xin Shuhua Tortured and Force-fed Poison at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

In March 2008, practitioner Xin Shuhua was detained at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province. The guards used all kinds of methods to torture her in attempt to make her give up Falun Gong. Xin Shuhua had been once before been detained at Masanjia for three years. She was imprisoned for explaining the facts about Falun Gong to the public. Because she did not give up her belief, refused to work and went on hunger strike, the guards beat her with electric batons. Then they hung her up, bound her on to a "dead person's bed", and locked her in a dark cell, where she had to squat. The guards used an iron support to hold her mouth open and poured in poison, making her jaw disjointed four times. They injected poison into her and forced her to sit on a "tiger bench".
  • Cases of Persecution in Guangdong Provincial Women's Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Wang Xiaoyuan, 50, is a practitioner from Zhuhai City. She had been in very good health, but when she was released after 19 months in the forced labour camp, she needed to be carried out by three people. It was reported that the guards tortured her brutally, including beating her and forcing her to stand in a fixed position for long periods of time, which led to her being unable to walk or take care of herself. However, the camp authorities still did not release her on medical parole. Instead, two criminals were designated to monitor her.
