MEPs expressed concern over the Article 23 legislation in Hong Kong by adopting a resolution emphasising that the future development of relations with China hinges on respect for the full autonomy of Hong Kong and the freedom of the Hong Kong citizens.

"This is a very important issue and one that I have been following closely...If this particular change [toward more draconian laws] does occur as a result of pressure from the Chinese Government, I will make representation to the British Government. Certain moves have already been made regarding this subject."

'The proposed law, Article 23, will make Hong Kong citizens lose their civil liberties and human rights. Politicians from democratic countries, media organisations and human rights groups all over the world all have the same view.'

'Be aware that what you choose will have a big impact in many people's lives, as well as your own lives. Be also sure that you will have support from all over the world if you stand up for human rights and freedom in Hong Kong.'

The deputy head of the police station tortured her for three days. Overcome with exhaustion and in acute pain, she fainted many times during that period. When she fainted, the policemen, devoid of any pity, would cruelly pour hot water on her to wake her up and continue torturing her.

For three or four nights in a row, the police directed four or five prisoners to take turns beating me. My chest and back were swollen and I was bruised all over. I believe in being good and kind to all people, upholding the values of Falun Dafa. So what crime had I committed that I should be subjected to such inhumane and degrading thuggery?

When his mother met him, she could not believe the shocking sight: his upper body was naked and his eyes were swollen from the beating. His mother tried to put his clothes on him, but he said it was too excruciatingly painful for him to be touched due to the wounds that covered his body.

AFP quoted the [Falun Dafa Information Centre's] statement, which mentioned that international pressure has had some effect; some Falun Gong practitioners have been released, and the situation of other practitioners in detention has improved.

From December 3 to 5, 2002, with the help from practitioners of nearby states, practitioners in Illinois held a 3-day photographic exhibition entitled, "Path to Return Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" at the lobby of the Illinois statehouse. Falun Gong recieved much support and admiration from this event.

During the day, many activities were held, including Falun Dafa exercise demonstrations, singing and dancing performances, calligraphy demonstrations and information sessions. A signature collection was also started to support the erection of a marble monument bearing the words "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" in 27 different languages.
