Despite the heavy snow, people were attracted to the energy field of Dafa practitioners. They read every display board thoroughly. A lady learned the exercises on the spot with great interest, even though the weather was very cold.

"I very much hope that you will use your powers to ensure that there is no repeat of the most regrettable incidents in the spring of this year when Falun Gong practitioners were treated very badly by police who seem to have been out of control. If Hong Kong wants to be a part of the modern world, it needs to leave behind the kind of mindset that has produced the proposal for its 'subversion' law."

[He had been] tortured for 42 days. He was deprived of sleep, and food except for a bowl of broth in the morning and in the afternoon. As soon as he closed his eyes, he was shocked by electric batons.

I am a housewife. My husband is the person in charge of the local "610 Office." We have a 16-year-old daughter in the 9th grade. Prior to July 20 1999, we often saw the people who were learning Falun Gong practising in parks. We met daily with people who practised Falun Gong. They were of high moral character and were very kind to others.

The prison guards were terribly upset and extremely tense because of our escape. They sent out 40 trucks to madly search for us door-to-door. After more than 10 days of frantic but useless searching, they consulted a fortune-teller for help. The fortune-teller told them not to touch the 18 escaped practitioners.

"The Falun Gong practitioners in our company all perform well. If half of the employees were like them the company would work much better and our jobs would be much easier."

they shocked the practitioners with electric batons, beat them with plastic tubes and kicked them with their leather boots. They even stomped on practitioners' heads and twisted their limbs back and forth...At the end of this, they said viciously: "Today will be the end of you."

One night I was picked up while distributing Dafa truth-clarifying materials, and was detained at a local police station. I experienced the typical five steps of how the "610 Office" personnel try to break the spirit of Falun Gong practitioners.

Before I could say anything, they started shocking my neck with the electric batons again. During the next half hour, the four men hit me and shocked me with their batons. This caused my neck to turn black and purple. I persisted in clarifying the facts about Dafa to them with compassion in my heart whenever I had a chance. This stunned them.

"Mr. Prime Minister, Trade is important, but surely the upholding of human rights must be our most important priority both as a government and as Canadians. Right now there are 12 practitioners imprisoned who have families in Canada, and thousands of others who are being persecuted on the basis of their beliefs."

The likely effect of the new laws is to raise growing levels of self-censorship in Hong Kong on issues sensitive to China such as Taiwan and Tibet and the Falun Gong, a spiritual group banned in China but legal in Hong Kong.

"Five years after Britain handed Hong Kong over to China, the Hong Kong government says it will enact a law prohibiting acts of treason, secession, sedition and subversion against the Chinese government. The business community--particularly the foreign business community--worries that China's definition of these crimes will be far stricter than that of most liberal democracies."

Mrs. Zeng said: "Given that my husband is not a Falun Gong practitioner, I can imagine no other reason for his arrest except for the purpose to keep him as a hostage to threaten me. I would like to ask: if this is not terrorism, what is?"

A Falun Gong practitioner claims that her husband has been taken hostage by Beijing police after she filed a lawsuit against China's leadership for human rights abuses..."I can't imagine any other reason for his arrest except to keep him as a hostage to threaten me," she said.
