Those people who hear about the persecution for the first time compare it to the Holocaust during the reign of Hitler. They ask themselves, and us, how civilized governments the world over can allow something like this to happen and why there is no public outcry for sanctions against China.

A reporter for Xinhua [Chinese State-run media] came out of the embassy to talk to us...He said that he supported freedom to practice Falun Gong, but had been misled by some of the propaganda in China. We explained the facts to him...When he left, he promised a few times that he would not write anything bad about Falun Gong.

...a lady opposite to me started to talk to me...She was interested in Falun Gong, and asked me many questions. She was shocked to hear about Falun Gong practitioners’ situation in China. She told me that she has engaged in a research on religion, and that she felt Falun Gong is good and that a Master who teaches a practice for free must be an extraordinary figure.

Radio Free Asia reported that 44 internationally renowned scholars and professors signed a joint letter to Jiang in which they protested the establishment of Hong Kong Basic Law No. 23. In the letter, the scholars stated that this decree would harm the freedom of the people of Hong Kong.

During the past week, practitioners in the United Kingdom continued to send forth righteous thoughts (using the power of pure thoughts to purify the mind and harmonize the surrounding environment) outside the Chinese Embassy in London, and the consulates in Manchester and Edinburgh.

Many Swedish practitioners went to America to participate in the peaceful protests during the Chinese dictator’s visit. Starting on October 22 2002, the practitioners in Stockholm gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy to practise together, send forth righteous thoughts and hold candlelight vigils.

This is one of a series of activities this week and it is also part of the global campaign during Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin’s visit to America and Mexico.

Liu Junhua was stopped near his home and searched by local police of the Dongfeng and Nanwei Branch. They found some Falun Dafa materials and the key to his house, which they used to break into Liu's home. Items that were confiscated included Falun Dafa books, CDs, cassette tapes, a VCD player, a Walkman, a cell phone, a pager and cash.

Ms. Liu was deaf and limped in one leg. She also lost her eyesight in one eye and had trouble seeing out of the other. She could hardly walk because of severe rheumatism. She began practising Falun Gong in 1997. Within ten days or so, her illnesses were all gone and her body felt as though it was weightless. She told everyone she met: "Falun Gong is truly remarkable. It gave me a second life."

They could not get to sleep for two days after being force-fed with the heavily condensed salt water and corn porridge-mixture. Their bodies were hot and they became emaciated. They could not talk. On top of that, the thugs deprived them of drinking water.

About two hundred Falun Dafa Practitioners held a candlelight vigil in Hong Kong's Standard Garden on the night of October 25, 2002 in peaceful protest against Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Gu, a Canadian Falun Gong practitioner, said, "We learned through a private inquiry of certain Mexican government officials that a blacklist with names of Falun Gong practitioners does exist, and that it had been provided by the Jiang government. Since Jiang is here to attend the APEC meeting, his regime put pressure on the Mexican government, citing "safety concerns." Ms. Gu added, "Although there is a blacklist, the Mexican government has not blocked the entrance of any Falun Gong practitioner into Mexico so far."

Amnesty International and the National Autonomy University of Mexico sponsored an exhibition of traditional Chinese paintings by Zhang Cuiying in Mexico City on 21-23 October, before the APEC Summit.

"But the Falun Gong delegation had its 50-room hotel booking mysteriously cancelled a few days ago and were offered rooms elsewhere, far away from where Jiang is staying. The hotel insists it was suddenly overbooked. Perhaps the US has taken some tips from the UK which, three years ago, shamefully quashed all peaceful protest against Jiang while he was on a state visit to London."

"But it would seem the only protesters in this unlikely spot for an international conference, the sun-baked peninsula of sea-surrounded desert that is Baja California, are the Falun Gong, practitioners of meditative exercises who have become victims of repression in China."

""The performance carries special significance in Hong Kong. It's not like in the West where people commonly sympathize with and accept Falun Gong," said Kan Hung-cheung, a spokesman for the group. "We need to show the public that Falun Dafa is beautiful and good for mankind," Kan said."
