"Three young students..all from Qinghua University, are scheduled to be tried at Chaoyang District Court in Beijing on January the 9th 2004. They are being put on trial because they practise Falun Gong and refuse to give up their belief in Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. All three have been detained and subjected to brainwashing, maltreatment and torture for at least a year, and their attorneys will not truly defend them in Beijing’s ‘kangaroo court’, but will be present only to uphold the facade of justice for the dictator’s regime."

Regardless of the terrifying consequences, Liu Chengjun and other Falun Gong practitioners risked their lives to broadcast the facts and resist the illegal persecution. They safeguarded man’s basic rights to free speech and freedom of belief. Their peaceful approach in resisting the brutal persecution is a magnificent feat.

Nearly 8,000 people were invited to participate in London’s annual Lord Mayor’s New Year Parade on January 1st. This magnificent event was watched on television by people around the world. Falun Gong’s performance was welcomed and praised.

On May 23, 2003, perpetrators from Jianshelu Police Station abducted innocent 65 year old Dafa practitioner Ms. Gu Chuanying, from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province and sent her to the Chengdu City No. 1 Detention Centre. They tortured her mercilessly there, which led to her death of heart failure six months later. On July 11, 2003, the authorities in the detention centre told her family to take her home. She suffered for many months before her untimely death.

Wang Qiang also incites hatred...Just like this, Wang Qiang utilised this type of vicious means to both mentally and physically torture practitioners. He deceived the family members of the practitioners in the brainwashing class, resulting in the break-up of many families. Wang Qiang also spread this torture method to neighbouring counties and cities. People said, "After I heard what Wang Qiang said about Falun Gong, I would unknowingly have hatred toward Falun Gong."

Yu suffered from a severe cerebral concussion and then he suffered mental breakdown as a result of being so horrifically tortured. In order to escape responsibility for Yu's physical and mental injuries, Qu Xiufeng, the detention centre chief, created a lie to cover his shameful crime by telling people, "Yu is a good person, we also treat him quite well. It's a pity that he went insane after practising Falun Gong and banged his own head against the heater." After committing such awful crimes against Falun Gong practitioners, the authorities shamelessly fabricate lies to cover up the truth of their involvement.

On March 5, 2003, Division Leader Hong Wei brought Ms. Wan to a big room and forced her to write "Five Statements," which is a series of statements to further renouncing belief in Falun Dafa and even attempting to force her to write defamatory statements regarding her belief....Prison guard Hong Wei then came in and unlocked her handcuffs and ferociously said to her, "You could not bear it even if you were tough and strong."

An international Art Exhibit by Australian artist Zhang Cuiying was held at the Art Gallery of the Tainan Municipal Library from December 26, 2003, to January 1, 2004. The Mayor of Tainan, two city councillors and the Library Director went to her art exhibit and extended their greetings.

Practitioners from the Japan Minghui Falun Gong School travelled to Taiwan in order to attend the Young Practitioners' Experience Sharing Conference. Among the seven children, the eldest was 14 years old, the youngest was 5, and it was the first time the seven of them had left their parents and travelled so far.

Practitioners from Orlando, Florida rented a booth in a busy flea market during the period between Christmas and New Year, to educate the public about the horrific acts of violence the Jiang regime is perpetrating against Falun Gong practitioners in China and to encourage support for the release of American citizen Charles Lee who is detained in China.

The evolution of furniture in ancient China reveals that the transformation of ancient people’s living style from sitting on the floor to sitting on high chairs occurred only after the Song dynasty. This means the custom of sitting on high chairs has a brief history of one thousand years in Chinese culture. One might wonder why it hadn’t occurred to the ancient Chinese people before that sitting on a taller chair might be more comfortable? It doesn’t make much sense especially if you’ve read about the incredible technological developments and inventions in ancient China recorded in Meng Xi Bi Tan by Shen Kuo of the Song dynasty. Can it be true that only after the appearance of Hu Chuang that the ancient Chinese people realised they could sit on stools?
