She suffered numerous tortures and a lot of pain in prison. As a consequence of the abuse, her health greatly deteriorated and her feet began to fester. The day she was released after serving the full term, her appearance was beyond recognition. She could not climb up stairs. A healthy woman was thus reduced to this poor disabled state.

The labour camp does not allow our families to visit us and monitors all of our mail. My family came to visit me several times and was refused. I repeatedly requested to write letters to my family. Because I mentioned my appalling health condition in one of the sentences, the police forced me to cross it out. After I refused, they did not send the letter.

It is beyond the imagination of a civilized, sane person, that there could exist people on Earth who could apply such heartless and sadistic treatment to people who wish no-one harm, do not retaliate for all the suffering that has been brought to them, can still have compassion in their hearts towards their abusers, and will speak out the truth despite persecution.

A few collaborators on the third team have fabricated many ridiculous lies as excuses for their shameful behaviour, and to defend the cruel torture of the evildoers. Nevertheless, they themselves are victims of the forced brainwashing at the labour camp. What is even sadder is that they have become accomplices of the evildoers.

'Critics fear the government's proposal will subject Hong Kong to mainland-style tactics. Some say the Falun Gong [group], outlawed in mainland China […] although it remains legal in Hong Kong, could be targeted.'

Charles Li, a U.S. Citizen was detained at Guangzhou Airport shortly after landing there on January 22, 2003. He was then transferred approximately 1,000 miles away to the Yangzhou Detention Centre in Jiangsu Province...Two days later, Chinese authorities officially notified the U.S. consulate that Charles will be charged with sabotaging T.V. and/or radio equipment -- a charge that, according to a U.S. official in Shanghai, could mean up to 15 years in prison.

The desire for ease and comfort is manifested at every moment in practitioners’ daily lives, but cannot easily be observed. So we are most easily influenced by it, and thus fall behind with our cultivation practice. Only maintaining a clear mind can we see it clearly and then relinquish it.
