  • Falun Gong Practitioner Li Xianzhong from Heilongjiang Province Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for Watching NTD Television

    Falun Gong practitioner Li Xianzhong was arrested by local police in May 2008 and sentenced to four years in Jiamusi Prison in January 2009. The following is his personal account of the events of his capture and sentencing: "In detention I was locked up in an iron cage. Guard Xu Lianbin took me to the office and asked me who else practised Falun Gong. When I said I didn't know, he put 80-pound shackles on me. Wearing the heavy shackles day and night quickly caused my skin to tear open, and my ankles started bleeding. They finally took them off after seven days."
  • Ms. Liu Zhi Severely Tortured in Liaoning Women's Prison and Unable to Take Care of Herself

    Ms. Liu Zhi was arrested outside her home by six police officers on July 12th, 2011. She was taken to Liaoning Women's Prison, where she is being severely persecuted. When Ms. Liu's family went to visit her on May 17th, 2012, they noticed that she could not move her fingers and was unable to pick up anything. Her body also kept convulsing. When Ms. Liu saw her family, she started crying. She wanted to get a tissue to wipe her nose, but could not tear the tissue herself and needed help from other prisoners.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Subjected to Brainwashing in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison Before Being Released

    Just after the 2012 Chinese New Year, Teng from the Judicial Bureau came to Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison to coordinate the forced brainwashing police. It was said that no matter what measures had to be taken, all practitioners must be subjected to brainwashing before being released from prison. If a practitioner refuses to cooperate, the guards order other inmates to torture her. They seal the practitioner's mouth with thick layers of tape, and tie a towel around her neck in order to make it hard for her to breathe. Then they drag the practitioner across the floor. The practitioner would be tied to a bed standing upright, fastened to the bunk bed poles with tape around her chest and legs.
  • Anaesthetist Chen Meili, 67, from Nanchang City Tortured to Death

    Ms. Chen Meili was arrested in 2004 and sentenced to eight years in prison by Nanchang City Xihu District Court, because she was a Falun Gong practitioner. In June 2009, after suffering in prison for five years, Chen Meili was finally released. She was traumatised both mentally and physically due to the torture. Chen Meili passed away on March 6th, 2011 at the age of sixty-seven.
  • Chinese Communist Party Authorities Suspected of Poisoning Ms. Liu Mulan--Her Daughter Detained

    Ms. Liu Huilan was arrested by police on June 25th, 2011, and taken to the Huiyang District Detention Centre. She was transferred to Guangdong Women's Prison on January 10th, 2012, after being sentenced to three-and-a-half years by a Huiyang District Court judge. A couple of months later, her mental and physical health deteriorated. It's suspected that prison authorities have been injecting her with unknown drugs. Ms. Liu's husband and daughter visited her on March 22nd. Her daughter was later arrested on April 27th, 2012, and detained for trying to rescue Mr. Liu.
  • The Persecution of Male Practitioners in the Third Division, First Brigade of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    The Third Division of the First Brigade of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp is known for severely torturing Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioners held there are not allowed to talk to each other. There are currently twelve practitioners being detained there. Falun Gong practitioner Cheng Xiuchang was sentenced from January 15th, 2011 to January 14th, 2013. Because he refused to write the three statements to renounce practising Falun Gong, he was given ten “black flags.” One black flag represents a term extension of five days. He has been tortured at the whim of his captors.
  • Ms. Ma Lina Sentenced to Forced Labour; Husband Detained for Requesting Her Release

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Lina was arrested on May 24th, 2012, when she went out to distribute informational materials and explain the facts about Falun Gong to people. Ms. Ma sentenced to 2 years of forced labour for speaking to people about Falun Gong. When her husband, Mr. Shen Songkun, went to the police station to request his wife’s release, officials detained him for 10 days.
  • Ms. Wang Xia from Inner Mongolia Dies after Being Tortured

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Xia was arrested at home on April 27th. On May 12th, she was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment for kidney failure. She was later taken back to the detention centre. Her family's request that she be released on medical parole was approved; however, the centre refused to release her. On June 7th, Ms. Wang had a second kidney crisis and failure of other internal organs. She also suffered from a brain hemorrhage and sank into a coma. Two days later, on June 9th, the detention centre authorities notified her family to come visit her. Ms. Wang died on June 15th at the age of only 38, leaving behind two young children.
  • Mr. Deng Jiangang in Critical Condition after Being Tortured in Wumaping Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Deng Jiangang was persecuted for four years in Wumaping Prison, Leshan. His physical condition deteriorated and he began to vomit blood. Mr. Deng was sent to the Sichuan Province Judicial Police General Hospital. Mr. Deng was completely healthy when he was first sent to the hospital. Only one week later, he began to suffer a mental collapse and now he is in critical condition. However, even after he lost consciousness, his four limbs were still forcibly tied to a bed so that he could not move.
  • Attorneys for Falun Gong Practitioners Defend Their Clients Despite Interference by Shuangcheng Court

    Six Falun Gong practitioners were tried by the Shuangcheng Court in Heilongjiang Province on May 28th, 2012. Five lawyers were hired to defend them. Many people who heard about it wanted to sit in on the trial. As a result, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) security agencies were all on high alert and tried to prevent the crowd from entering the courthouse. During the trial, the lawyers described the cruelty of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners perpetrated by the communist authorities. The judge repeatedly hammered his desk in an attempt to keep them from revealing the facts. Nonetheless, they persisted. When one lawyer was silenced, another continued. At last, the judge had to have two lawyers removed from the courtroom.
  • Northeastern China, 15,000 Defend Falun Gong Practitioners Petition seeks to help family that has suffered persecution

    A 23-year-old woman whose father was tortured to death for his faith in the spiritual practice Falun Gong collected signatures and thumbprints from 15,000 residents of northeastern China’s Heilongjiang Province in a petition that urges the Communist regime to investigate his case and to free her imprisoned mother and sister. This is the third time in the last two months that Chinese citizens have signed petitions on behalf of Falun Gong practitioners.
  • Development: Wang Xiaomei Arrested for Initiating 300 Signatures Campaign to Free Her Brother

    Ms. Wang Xiaomei, initiator of the “300 signatures” campaign that has been a source of commotion within the top leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, has been arrested. On May 26th, she and practitioner Tang Jianying were arrested. Their cries for help reportedly alerted most of the residents in the building. Ms. Wang Xiaomei is the sister of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Xiaodong. Mr. Wang was arrested by police at the end of February. His arrest enraged the entire village. Three hundred families in his village signed a petition, demanding that the Procuratorate release him.
  • Firsthand Account: Ms. Du Zuyin Force-Fed with Psychotropic Drugs at Xiaogan Mental Hospital

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Du Zuyin, a healthy and mentally competent person, was detained in the Xiaogan Mental Hospital in Hubei Province and force-fed psychotropic drugs. She was taken to the hospital by policemen He Zhongping and Liu Qiang in 2001. Through persistent demands, her family was eventually able to secure her release.
  • Mr. Zhang Weijie Arrested Ten Times and Sentenced to Forced Labour Twice; Now in Court Again

    Mr. Zhang Weijie is one of nine Falun Gong practitioners that were to be put on trial on May 19th, 2012 at Wuhan City Court. These practitioners were to be tried together in one main case. Mr. Zhang has been arrested ten times in the past 13 years, and has been sentenced to forced labour twice. In 2011 Mr. Zhang was arrested and taken to a brainwashing centre. Inmates would constantly talk to Mr. Zhang, telling him lies and false propaganda about Falun Gong in an attempt to get him to renounce his belief. Mr. Zhang was forced to stand for 14 consecutive days and was not allowed to sleep. Mr. Zhang went on a hunger strike to protest his persecution and was subjected to brutal forced feeding.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner and Former Anchor for Heilongjiang TV Station Zhao Xidong Arrested

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Xidong was an anchor for the Russian channel and a reporter for the Heilongjiang Province Television Station. He was arrested on December 31st, 2011. Mr. Zhao is currently being held in the Nangang Police Department Detention Centre. His family has hired an honest and kind lawyer to defend him.
