"My name is Wen Huiying. I'm a retired worker from the Taoyuan County Shipping Company in Changde City, Hunan Province. Because I believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, I was unjustly and brutally persecuted by Jiang's regime. I have been arrested and detained many times since the persecution of Falun Dafa began on July 20, 1999. Twice I was sentenced to a forced labour camp. Now I am homeless and have to move from one place to another in order to escape the persecution. At home, I have an eighty-year-old father-in-law who needs my care. My husband has several dislocated vertebrae and has problems taking care of himself. My son is working out of town and my family needs my care. But I'm forced to drift from one place to another and cannot return home."

In January of 2004, police officers in Handan City, Hebei Province arrested Ms. Tang Hui, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Handan. Upon witnessing both of her daughters being dragged into the police vehicles, Li Lunhui was extremely worried and very upset. Soon Li and her husband went together to the office of An Zhenzhi, the person responsible for arresting her daughters. The couple insisted that they be permitted to visit their daughters, but were refused. Having learned that her daughters were being tortured while in custody, Ms. Li became extremely upset. She suffered a sudden, massive heart attack, and died at 6:30 a.m., March 30, 2004. In such a short period of time, a happy family was torn apart by tragedy as a result of the persecution.

The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) and China Mental Health Watch, two international human rights organizations, have thoroughly investigated the reports of psychiatric abuse of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese authorities. The results of the investigation reveal an appalling aspect of the persecution. Cases of psychiatric abuse of Falun Gong practitioners were spread throughout 23 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China; At present over one thousand mentally sound Falun Gong practitioners are locked in mental hospitals and drug rehabilitation centres, many of them receiving forced injections or drugs that damage the central nervous system.

"After I was arrested for practising Falun Gong, I went on a hunger strike for one month to protest the illegal persecution, and later I was sent to a forced labour camp. However, the labour camp refused to accept me due to my poor physical condition as a result of the hunger strikes. Failing to put me into a forced labour camp, the national security department sent me to a hospital. In the hospital, they gave me an injection of some unknown drug. About twenty minutes later, my bones started aching. Meanwhile, I felt depressed and wanted to shout, but no sound came from my throat. I was in sheer agony, feeling as if I was being stabbed by needles and burned by fire all over my body."

Hebei Provincial No. 4 Prison uses a cruel method of torturing imprisoned Falun Dafa practitioners called "Taming the Eagle." This is considered an "outstanding torture" and was first used at the Baoding and Taihang Prisons to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. It was later popularized by the Hebei Provincial "610 Office.". In this torture, three to four criminals and several police guards make up what is called a "transformation" team. The team works in three shifts so that Falun Gong practitioners can be beaten 24 hours a day.

Under the repeated torture of more than one and a half years of illegal forced labour and ten months in brainwashing centres, 32-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhu Xia from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province was severely devastated mentally and physically. She was also subjected to sleep deprivation for long periods of time. As a result, she suffered a mental breakdown.

Dafa practitioner Mr. Han Zhenju from Hebei Province was arrested in March 2003 and sent to a Labour Camp in Tangshan City. He was tortured to the brink of death. He was returned to the Kaiping Labour Camp, where he was tortured to death on May 15, 2004. Han Zhenju's family saw large areas of black and purple marks on the back of his body, and the details call for further investigation.

"In August of 2001, because of printing Dafa banners, I was arrested by the police and brought to the Yangpu Detention Centre. In order to isolate Dafa practitioners from each other, each prison cell only holds one practitioner while the rest of the inmates are criminals who have committed various crimes. Each cell measures less than 16 square meters [approximately 160 square feet]; excluding the pit-type lavatory, the area for sitting and sleeping is very small. With more than twenty inmates detained in a cell, fights broke out every day; very often we would be awakened in the middle of the night by the noise of fighting and shouting due to someone's loud snoring or arguments from inmates trying to get more sleeping space."

Forty three year old Dafa practitioner Ms. Bai Xiushuang was a resident of a village near Jiutai City, Jilin Province. Ms. Bai Xiushuang went to Beijing after the persecution began on July 20, 1999 to appeal for Falun Gong. She was unjustly detained and then sent to Jiutai City's compulsory brainwashing class for one month. After her release the police frequently harassed her. Thus Bai Xiushuang made the choice to leave home to avoid being persecuted. Consequently, she suffered much physical and mental torment. Finally at the end of 2003, her previous illnesses, which had disappeared after she began practising Falun Gong, recurred, leading to her eventual death.

The No. 1 Female Forced Labour Camp of Shandong Province not only mentally and physically tortures Falun Gong practitioners, but also uses many means to extort money from them. The following are some cases of the forced labour camp extorting Falun Gong practitioners' money. To "help and educate" (brainwash) one practitioner, he/she is charged 3,000 Yuan. This is not forced labour, but one who is "helped and educated" has no personal freedom. Usually, these brainwashing sessions last from twenty days to three months.

On April 22, while visiting the US, the Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, was served a summons from the Washington, DC, District Court for abusing huge amounts of government funds to persecute Falun Gong during his term as Liaoning's Provincial Governor. According to reliable sources, agonizing screams were often heard outside the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province. In October 2000, at Masanjia, 18 female Falun Gong practitioners were stripped naked and thrown into the cells of male criminals. The cruel persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Masanjia has led to at least five deaths, caused seven to suffer mental collapse, and physically disabled many.

I am a Falun Dafa practitioner and was abducted by police and taken to the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp. When I got there, the guards took me and a few other practitioners into the wilderness to be buried alive. The guards lit a campfire and dug a big hole. They pushed us into the hole and said that if we did not give up our faith, we would be buried and that if we died, it would be called suicide. We refused to renounce our belief even though we were buried up to our waists.

"One day we heard Liu Hongguang and Zhang Zhenhua ordering others to drag Mr. Zhang Changming into the solitary confinement compartment. We heard Mr. Zhang shouting, "Help!" Later on we learned that Mr. Zhang had been tortured to death during his second time in the solitary confinement compartment. We cannot imagine the horrors that went on inside. According to Liang Jingui, when he saw Mr. Zhang Changmin in the morning, his body was already stiff and his body was horribly misshapen."

"On the night of April 29, 2004, I went to Hong Kong via China Airlines to attend a Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference legally permitted by the Hong Kong government. I was issued an entry permit by the Hong Kong government a week prior to my trip. However, when I entered customs, I was immediately escorted by the airport police to a small room and searched. I asked them in surprise, "Will it always be like this to enter Hong Kong in the future?" They replied, "This is just a routine inspection." I asked again, "Which Hong Kong law have I breached for you to treat me like this?" They answered, "Sorry, we are just conducting a routine inspection.""

63 year old Falun Gong practitioner Chen Guilan passed away on September 27, 2002, only three days after she was sent to the Second Labour Camp of Gansu Province. Sources report that Chen Guilan's husband found distinct blue and red bruises on his wife's body when he was ordered to go to the Second Labour Camp to deal with his wife's death. He wanted to take photos of her body, but was forbidden from doing do. Furthermore, the Camp did not allow him to move his wife's body to their hometown and cremate it there. In the end, the Camp cremated Chen's body.

74 year old Chengdu City Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Qifeng encountered detention, harassment and persecution by corrupt local officials. After she was released the authorities threatened to put her in a brainwashing centre if she did not renounce her belief. She knew the cruelty of brainwashing classes and under extreme distress and fright, she checked into a hospital so that she could avoid being sent to a brainwashing centre. However she was discharged and died in injustice on September 20, 2003.

Fan Guang was a student from Shulan City, Jilin Province. His father was a coal miner who had lost his life in an accident many years ago. He and his mother Wang Pengying depended on each other for their lives. Due to the fact that she practised Falun Gong, his mother was arrested and detained in a labour camp. After a year and a month in the labour camp, Ms. Wang Pengying came home to find her son was dying. Fan Guang's heart and stomach were very weak. He couldn't eat anything because he had been very ill and malnourished for a long time. Ms. Wang took him to see many doctors, but it was too late. On April 10, 2004, Fan Guang died. His body was so emaciated and pale that the staff of the crematorium was moved to tears for him.

The police stations in all districts and counties of Beijing maintain a team of people -- the National Guard Team -- whose job is to constantly monitor Falun Gong practitioners. This team organizes and scouts for opportunities to abduct practitioners and ruthlessly strikes whenever they are given the order. In parts of the countryside, this team has climbed over walls and entered windows to raid homes and abduct Falun Gong practitioners. The team was especially active around the Party's 16th Congress, when Jiang Zemin's regime issued a secret order whereby all districts and counties were required to arrest Falun Gong practitioners.

Abduction is just the very first step in Jiang's regime's persecution of Falun Gong. After violently taking practitioners away from their homes, the police resort to a multitude of means to attempt to force practitioners to give up their cultivation of Falun Gong. Those who persist in their cultivation are sent to brainwashing centres, mental hospitals, labour camps, or jails, where they are tortured both physically and mentally. Abducted practitioners are asked to make a choice between their belief and their lives. Those who choose to hold firm to their belief often pay a heavy price, sometimes even with their lives.

Liu Haibo was accused of providing a hiding place for Dafa practitioners who had broadcast the truth about the persecution on the national TV system. For this reason, The authorities brutally tortured Liu in order to obtain a confession. About 1:00 a.m. in the morning, he was tortured so severely that his heart stopped beating (It is not known what method of torture or measures were used by the police). He was sent to the emergency centre at the Changchun City Hospital, but the staff officially claimed they could not revive him, even though the emergency centre was well equipped with the proper equipment and trained personnel to successfully revive him. His family was not informed of his death. Liu Habo's father is over 70 year old and still doesn't know his son has been tortured to death. His 5 year old son is being raised by his grandmother.

Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Xin Jingwen, 68, from Yueyang City, Hunan Province, was abducted on April 28, 2004. As many as 10 police vehicles were involved in her arrest and subsequent abduction. On May 2, 2004, she was found tortured to death in theYunxi Detention Centre in Yueyang City. Police cremated her body on May 6. Those mainly responsible for her death are state security police officers Sun Guanping and Li Wanyi.

Qi's hair had turned white by the time she left the psychiatric hospital. Because of the destructive drugs she was given, her body and face became unrecognizeable. Her eyes looked dull and she was having a hard time recognizing acquaintances. She was no longer capable and smart. She had an average heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute. Her heartbeat was irregular and if she moved quickly, she could not catch her breath. Her hands trembled a lot. She would hide in a corner trembling and acted up when they stimulated her. She gradually lost her memory and her mental faculties became worse.

"One practitioner who was interrogated during the daytime on the second day was a girl about 20 years old. After she came back from interrogation, her clothes were messed up and her hair was dishevelled. She seemed to have changed into another person, and she was seriously hurt physically and mentally. I asked another practitioner what had happened to the girl, and she said, "The police took off all of her clothes and forced her to sit in the snow for 2-3 hours. The most evil thing was that the policemen ordered drug-addicts and prostitutes to burn her private parts with lit cigarettes..." This practitioner was overcome with grief and could not continue to describe the torture that happened to the young girl."

After the practitioners are abducted they are asked to sign various papers promising not to practice, to betray fellow practitioners by giving names and defaming the Teacher and the practice. If any practitioner refuses to betray Falun Dafa by signing their names, they are stripped down to their underwear and whipped. If practitioners pass out from the pain, they pour cold water over them to wake them up. If they still do not give up, they are sent to the "610 Office" or the County Detention Centre for extended detention.

Ms. Yu Fenghua was a music teacher. She was 57 years old and practised Falun Gong. She lived in Liaoning Province. One night in January 2001, Yu Fenghua was hanging a banner reading "Falun Dafa is Good" in the downtown area of Dalian. She was abducted by police who had been following her. While in detention, she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong and firmly resisted the persecution. She also went on a hunger strike to protest. Soon she was sentenced to 8 years in prison. On May 5, 2004, Dabei Prison informed her family to pick her up. She was on the verge of death. When her family arrived, she was carried in on a stretcher. After returning home, she passed away at around 6:00 p.m. on the night of May 10.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Tang Yun was born on March 22, 1970 and had lived in Chongqing. She had worked at Zitong Town Department Store. On December 4, 1999, Tang Yun went to Beijing to appeal for and validate Falun Dafa with her own experiences. Her son was only two years old at the time. Tang Yun was arrested and tortured to death on her police-escorted trip back from Beijing.

Mr. Zhou Yong, around 20 years old, was from Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. He went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000 but was illegally arrested and sent to Tianjin City where he suffered severe persecution. He was later sent to Hebei Province where he was tortured to the brink of death. He died in hospital in 2001, but only now has the news of his death escaped from China.

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zhang Zhong is illegally detained at the Daqing Prison in Heilongjiang Province. Because he refused to write a "Guarantee Statement" denouncing Falun Dafa, and persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises, he was tortured to the brink of death by Daqing Prison policeman Li Fajie. The prison authorities are currently ignoring the fact that his life is in danger.

Sun Lancheng was a 41-year-old female practitioner from Hebei Province. After suffering many detentions and poorly treated, she was arrested again in December 2002. The police sent her to a labour camp, but the labour camp again refused to admit her because of her poor health. The police had no alternative but to send her home. Not long afterward, she passed away at home on February 3, 2003.

In December 2000, authorities in Hebei Province First Forced Labour Camp (also called Tangshan City Kaiping Forced Labor Camp) tortured Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zhu Yourong and Ms. Zhang Zhibin to death. Ms. Zhu Yourong was in her thirties. She had been sentenced to forced labour around 2000. Guards tortured her with force-feeding, physical abuse, beatings, and curses. Ms. Zhang Zhibin was thirty years old. She, along with other practitioners, demanded an investigation into Ms. Zhu Yourong's death and was also tortured to death in response.

Mr. Tan Yanjun, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested three times and experienced all kinds of torture while in detention. As a result, he suffered a heart attack and a perforated eardrum. Currently, he is completely paralyzed and can't look after himself; he can't eat normally or look after himself. He has to lie on the floor of the detention centre. however, Hegang First Detention Centre still refuses to release him.

Falun Dafa practitioner Shen Xiaodu is the grandson of the late Mr. Shen Junru, one of the main founders of the China Democratic League. Shen Xiaodu was tortured for over two years at Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province. After his release the company that had previously employed him refused to arrange for his re-employment. The company has also scheduled people to monitor him 24 hours a day. The constant close surveillance ultimately caused Shen Xiaodu and his son the humiliation and hardship of being forced to move in with and become financially dependent upon his mother, who is nearly eighty years old.

Police abducted Li Chunrong, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province, and took her to a Detention Centre in July 2000. There she was subjected to brainwashing and other psychological torture. After she returned home, she could not sleep for three days and nights, and developed a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. She lost consciousness for five days and died as a result of the unjust persecution on August 9.

33 year old college graduate Mr. Pan Jianjun was abducted by police when he was clarifying the truth about the persecution at a friend's house and sentenced to 3 years of forced labour. His forced labour term was extended to four years when he was betrayed by a "collaborator". Jianjun was seen in a detention centre at Huaihua in August 2003. At that time, he was as thin as a skeleton. He could not stand straight and had suffered severe injuries. On February 5, 2004, the prison sent a notice to his family members saying, "Pan Jianjun has died."

Dafa practitioner Ms. Li Xifang was fifty eight years old. On September 18, 2001 Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, and was tortured to death there. The policemen claimed that she had jumped to her death from a building. If this were true, then why did they refuse an autopsy to be done and forbid the family members to look at her body closely. Her 7-year-old grandson looked at her body from the outside the reposing room, and said that Ms. Li's head was swollen badly and had a hole in it.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Xiuyuan, 52, was from Shenhe District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. She was tortured to the brink of death during detention at the Longshan Forced Labour Camp. She passed away on April 27, 2004, a week after her release.

In Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, there is a 60-year-old grandmother who has had money extorted from her, who has been illegally imprisoned, persecuted, and harassed just because her family practises Falun Gong. Her son was sent to a forced labour camp, and she was left to look after her two young grandsons. With no one to help her, she went to various governmental departments every day to ask for help, but she was met with only verbal abuse and sarcasm.

Mr. Liu Zhongyang was a retired employee of the Xishui County Bus Company in Hubei Province. He was 60 years old and lived in Liupulaojia, Yanmao Town, Xishui County, Hubei Province. On April 17, 2004, he received a Falun Dafa truth clarifying VCD, and was reported while watching it at home. Though he was not a Falun Dafa practitioner, the Xima Town police stormed his home, threatened him and attempted to arrest him. His family and neighbours strongly resisted the police action.

Former mayor in Hebei Province, was forty-three year old Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Feng Guoguang. He was barbarically force-fed in January 2002 while unlawfully detained at Baoding City Forced Labour Camp for refusing to renounce his practice of Falun Dafa. Feng Guoguang started to continuously vomit blood. He was sent to the hospital and treated for ten days. By then he was in a critical condition. The police saw that his condition was critical. In order to escape responsibility for his death, they allowed his family members to take him home. Subsequently, Feng Guoguang passed away as a result of the torture he received in the labour camp

Shandong Province's Changle Forced Labour Camp made several efforts to get a contract with the Hongye Group. The Hongye Group is a Chinese-American joint venture that produces hand-woven rugs and exports them to the U.S. The labour camp authorities force Dafa practitioners to weave rugs in a heavily polluted environment. The practitioners have to work more than twelve hours a day, and they barely have time to take a bath or wash their clothes. The intense work and terrible food dramatically damages practitioners' health, and they have become weak and emaciated. On top of that, they often suffer brutal torture from the police.

In January 2000, one of my relatives, an officer from the Fuzhou Military District in Fujian Province, came home for a visit. Two days after arriving, he received a telegram from the military unit ordering him back to the Fuzhou Military District at once. First, he thought it was a military emergency. After returning, however, he attended a meeting in which Jiang Zemin's secret instructions on persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in the military were conveyed: "Military personnel are strictly forbidden from practising Falun Gong, and anyone caught disobeying this order can be executed by firearms. It is not required that the execution be reported to higher levels."

The "610 Office" directed Shengli Oilfield to hold three brainwashing classes. Since 2000, these classes have been used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale. Dafa practitioners are abducted and held for long periods of time at these classes, and forced to watch and listen to Dafa-defaming materials. They are forced to write the "Three Statements" to renounce their belief in Dafa, their salary is reduced or withheld from them, they are beaten, some are sent to mental hospitals, some are force-fed, sent to additional brainwashing classes in Wangcun, sent to forced labour camps, and the authorities assert pressure on their families.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Shuchun was beaten to death because he refused to give up his belief in "Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance" After Liu Shuchun was beaten to death, in order to keep news of their crime from being leaked, the police wrapped up his head and entire body with a cloth and carried his corpse out of the labour camp the next day. However, staff members of the People's Hospital accidentally disclosed information to the news station that the dead body from the labour camp had obviously been beaten to death. The labour camp then requested that the hospital announce his cause of death to be from disease. A few days later, the labour camp told Liu Shuchun's family members that he died from diseases.

Ms. Wang Jingrong was 60 years old. On December 30, 2001, police detained her because they found Falun Dafa materials at her home. In early February 2002, the police forced the family members to pay a "deposit" of 3,000 Yuan, and forced them to sign a "guarantee statement." (to declare that she would stop practising Falun Gong) During her detention she suffered a recurrence of her old illness, brought on by maltreatment from the police. She died soon after she was released.

When Ms. Xu Weiwen's completed her term in Banqiao Women's Labour Camp, instead of being released she was sent for further violent brainwashing. Under the direct order from the team chief officer, Jiao Mohua, cellmates were instructed to torture her. They often bragged about how they tortured her and enjoyed undertaking those inhuman acts. After being on a hunger strike and suffering forced-feeding, she decided to eat as her health was very poor. The cellmates told Xu, "How come whenever you refused to eat, you wouldn't eat, and whenever you wanted to eat, you can eat? This time even though you want to eat, we'll not let you eat!" In fact, Xu Weiwen died from forced starvation.

"In August 2003, at the end of my term, I was released from prison. That ended the difficult and nightmarish experiences I suffered in Qianjin Prison. That was the end of three years of my life of hell in this world. Carrying the entrusted legacy, wishes and expectations from many practitioners, I left the place that I'll never forget, and left my painful experience there.

In April 2004, Qiu Xuedong (head of the detention centre) ordered practitioner Ms Zhao Yanxia to be viciously force-fed, as she had gone on a hunger strike to protest her unjust detention. In the end, it was found that she had died. Her body was hastily transported to the hospital. The head of the Chifeng City "610 Office," Yang Chunyue, told other people in person, "If the practitioners were persecuted to death or near-death, they will be sent to a prison, a forced labour camp or a hospital. Once there, the death will be announced and we will have no responsibility. If they die at the detention centre, we will have to bear the responsibility."

50 year old Ms. Sun Xiucai from Shandong Province was reported by a local resident when she went to a village to distribute truth-clarifying materials about the persecution. Ms. Sun was taken to a police station where she was brutally beaten by policemen Li Shaolin and Guo Yugui and suffered all manner of unspeakable tortures. She was sent to a detention centre where health worsened every day. The police hastily ordered her family to take her home. Sun Xiucai died on January 4, 2001.

The Yingkou City No. 1 Detention Centre in Liaoning Province has been illegally detaining Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) practitioners for quite a few years, and is carrying out inhumane tortures against them. Many Dafa practitioners were maimed as a result of torture, including 38-year-old Li Wei. The common criminal inmates used tin-snips to cut both of his nipples off. Falun Gong practitioners were routinely tortured and beaten. Their physical and mental health was constantly under threat. They were also forced to perform prolonged hard labour. Sometimes they were not allowed to sleep in order to work overtime through the night.

Mr. Zou Zhengming, 62 years old, was the Deputy Director of the Urumqi Police Department, Xinjiang Province. In August of 2002, policemen from the local "610 Office", forcibly took Mr. Zou away from his home for a three-day-long interrogation. The policemen didn't care that Mr. Zou was a senior cadre in the police department. They tortured him with electric batons and confiscated his home without informing any of his family members. He was forced to do heavy physical labour. Mr. Zou is now very thin, and his hair has turned all white.
