For firmly refusing to give up his faith in Falun Dafa, Senior Doctor Yang Yongshou from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province was troubled multiple times by the government's suppression of Falun Dafa. At the end of September 2002, perpetrators from the Yingshan County "610 Office" put Doctor Yang under close surveillance, and withheld his salary. They saw Dr. Yang become very weak, but he still refused to give up his faith. Then they stopped paying his living cost for two months. Under both mental and physical pressure, he died on December 10, 2003 in the hospital. No one took care of his body until three days after he died.

It is very possible that in present-day China no one would believe that someone would be detained merely for wanting to be a good person and for not wanting to renounce ones beliefs. Yet, this miscarriage of justice happened to a family of three: husband, wife and their one-year-old daughter. All three were detained in prison. The mother, Liu Aihua was sent along with her one year old child to a detention centre for 23 months followed by a brainwashing centre for more than a year.

During the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, the Political and Security Office of Ningbo City Police Department commonly deceived practitioners' family members by saying, "If you sign to agree to sending the practitioner to the mental hospital, he/she will be released very soon. You don't need to pay for the medical expenses, and the practitioner will not lose their job. A person sent to a mental hospital is a patient, so after being released, the reputation of the practitioner is still good. If you don't agree, we will sentence him or send him to a forced labour camp." As a result, many relatives of practitioners were cheated into signing the agreement.

Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Depeng was very kind and outstanding in his work as a teacher. However, on the afternoon of January 2, 2004 around 4 o'clock, while he was teaching his class, he was seized by Captain Xu Guangrong from the Zhucheng City's police task force known as the "Anti Evil Religion Reconnaissance Military Unit." Captain Xu Guangrong searched his desk, took his computer from his office and detained him giving the reason that Yang had typed, "Falun Dafa is great" on his computer. Yang was detained for a month. Police forced his family to pay 3,000 yuan before he was released.

In September 2000, during an exclusive interview with Mike Wallace on CBS' "60 Minutes", Jiang made irresponsible remarks and invented stories about Falun Gong. He used the program as a platform to defame the reputation of Falun Gong by making wild claims that Falun Gong practitioners believe in strange reincarnation and doomsday theories, all of which are not espoused by Falun Gong nor are found in the teachings. However, he dared not state these lies publicly in China where Falun Gong was widely known and liked by over 100 million people of all levels of society.

Li Lin, a Dafa practitioner from Yushu City, was detained at the Yushu Detention Centre for one and a half years simply because he was determined to continue practising Falun Dafa. He was so severely tortured in detention that he became blind in both eyes. In 2004, the prison guards extorted four hundred yuan from his family, followed by another two thousand yuan, stating that it was to pay for his medical treatment.

Mr. Wang Shouke is 77 years old and from Tianjin City. After practising Falun Gong, he was healed of brain atrophy. On March 4, 2004, Mr. Wang was arrested and imprisoned in the Tianjin City Prison simply because he firmly insisted on practising Falun Gong. Because of torture and the shocks received from an electric baton, he was left in a state of dizziness and only semi-conscious.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhao Yanxia was tortured to death during force-feeding. However, in order to cover up their crime, the police at Hongshan Detention Centre claimed that Zhao had died of a cardiac arrest, thus deceiving people, especially Zhao's family. Many other practitioners were tortured in a variety of sadistic and inhuman ways.

"Near the end of 2000, I was detained in the Shijiazhuang First Detention Centre because I refused to give up my belief in the Falun Dafa principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance." In the detention centre, Falun Dafa practitioners and other prisoners were forced to work as slaves. Our job was to process the naturally dried herbal medicine Ma Huang (Ephedra sinicia), also known as Chinese Ephedra. The dried herb is processed by pinching off the twigs with the thumb and forefinger. In a few days, the skin of one's forefinger becomes abraded, then the second finger has to be used instead, until eventually all one's fingers become raw and injured."

Policewoman Huang Haiyan, 37 years old, is from Liaoyang, Liaoning Province. Since the establishment of the Women's Second Department at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, Huang has played an active role in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. During the past five years Huang has persecuted hundreds of Dafa practitioners directly or by giving orders to others. Huang uses very cruel methods against them.

Qitaihe City detained 189 Falun Gong practitioners in January and February 2000 and 118 practitioners in March and April of the same year. In April 2000, practitioners were discharged from their jobs. The head of the Qitaihe Taoxi Police Station shouted, "Do you know? The government has an order, there is no responsibility even if we beat you to death!" After that, he began punching Shao's face and kicked Shao in the leg. When he kicked Shao, he threatened, "I'll make you unable to stand up!"

Ms. Zhang Huifang was a dancer with the Yichang City Dancing and Singing Group of Hubei Province. She had retired before she died. Before practising Falun Gong she was in poor health and had been diagnosed with a brain disease. Practising Falun Gong let her regain a rosy complexion, good health and she could again move gracefully and easily. When the persecution campaign started she was frequently harassed by local police. Gradually, her health deteriorated. Her brain disease recurred, and she was hospitalized in the Yuchang Cancer Hospital and subsequently died.

On November 5, 2003, Li Yinglin, a Falun Gong practitioner, went to Beijing to appeal regarding the persecution of Falun Dafa. When he was sent home on November 14, his whole body looked deformed from the beatings he received. Li Yinglin finally died as a result of the severe injuries. His family members wanted to find the murderer who beat him so badly, but the related departments just shifted responsibility. The family members have nowhere to bring their complaints.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Huang Zhao from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, was tortured to death at around 3 a.m. on April 16, 2004. The responsible parties are the No.1 Police Station in Wuhan City and people from the Qiaokou District "610 Office" We do not know exactly what kinds of torture she endured during these 15 days. Her husband Liu Ning was also severely tortured after he was abducted, and his body was extremely weak, so the police let his mother take him home. But when he tried to visit his mother-in-law, he was arrested again. He still does not know about his wife's death.

34 year old Ms. Zhang Haiyan lived in Liaoning Province. She was subjected to savage treatment in Masanjia Labour Camp, from which she never recovered. After nearly two years, she was at the brink of a mental collapse. She was released yet the long-term torture caused tremendous damage to Zhang Haiyan, both physically and mentally. In the 10 months she was home, she never dared to speak to anyone, including her husband and children, out of profound fear. On January 18, 2004, she passed away.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms Wang Guiju, an engineer from the Metallurgy Research Institute in Beijing Capital Steel Corporation, was taken to a brainwashing class at the end of April 2001, where the officials severely damaged her physical and mental health. She died as a result of the persecution at the beginning of May 2001. More detailed information is awaiting further investigation.

Mr. Zhong Yanyong was a retired official of the Farmer's Credit Union of Hunan Province. After four months of torture in detention he was taken to hospital then released home. He lapsed in and out of unconsciousness due to injuries he sustained at the detention centre. He would sleep for long periods of time without waking up. In the early morning of May 2, 2002, he passed away, at the age of 67.

Our whole family practises Falun Gong. It includes my daughter, son-in-law, one-year-old grandson and myself. For several years we have been suffering from the persecution by Jiang Zemin's political gang. We were arrested many times; after each time we were brutally tortured. Both of my parents died one after another because of the severe pressure caused by the persecution, which was beyond what they could bear. My husband also could not bear the pressure and came down with several serious illnesses.

Ms. Qiu Liying, a 45 year old Dafa practitioner from Shijiazhuang, was brutally tortured and beaten by police at the Tangshan Kaiping Labour Camp, because of her firm belief in Falun Dafa and the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. During that time, she was once sent to the Tangshan City Ankang Hospital (a psychiatric hospital) and locked up with male drug abusers and psychiatric patients.

Since the 60th session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights was held on March 15, human rights abuses in China have received much attention. According to Clearwisdom.net reports, confirmations and information on the torture death of 83 practitioners have come from sources in China starting with practitioner Liu Chengjun's torture death on December 26, 2003, until April 5, 2004. There was a death case reported almost every day. Twenty-six of the deaths occurred this year, within the first three months of this year.

"I was shocked and very sad when I heard the news that Mr. Wang Zhande, a Falun Gong practitioner from Chongqing City, had died from persecution. I would like to share some stories about him. Wang Zhande, 65 years old, was a veteran Party member who worked for Chongqing City Nanan Electricity Power Bureau. I met Mr. Wang in the Xipingshan Labour Camp's Strictly Monitored Group. He started practising Falun Dafa prior to 1996. In the summer of 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. As a result, he was arrested and imprisoned in a Chongqing City Detention Centre for a long period.

China's official "white paper" emphasised again and again China's economic development and claimed that China's human rights policies are develop rapidly and healthily. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Gang commented, "The Chinese authorities always emphasise that human rights represents 'the right to subsistence;' however, besides merely existing, man needs to think and to have a spiritual life, otherwise he is not a truly significant human being. The Chinese authorities' logic, 'if I allow you to live, you must live according to my will and instructions; otherwise you will face the cruelest choice' boils down to this: persistence in your belief vs. the most basic instinct -survival."

Associate Professor Ms. Yang Lingyun, 60 years old, was deeply anguished because of the suffering that her son, Gao Meng, suffered in a forced labour camp. Gao Meng could not endure the pressure in the forced labour camp and renounced Falun Gong. The pressure of being homeless and avoiding being unlawfully arrested by police, and worry over her son's miserable condition at the labour camp took a harsh toll on Ms. Yang. She was diagnosed with cancer and died in the hospital at the beginning of 2004. Due to Jiang's brutal persecution, another kind citizen in pursuit of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" has passed away, unjustly suffering mental and physical anguish in the process.

On March 19, 2001, the Dalian City Forced Labour Camp officials started a large-scale campaign of "Forceful Transformation" [to force practitioners to give up and renounce Falun Gong]. This savage "Forceful Transformation" caused one death and one severe injury among the practitioners. Two other deaths took place in the Dalian City Forced Labour Camp. One of the practitioners who died was Sun Lianxia, tortured to death on January 16, 2001. The other was practitioner Wang Qiuxia, who was beaten to death on June 10, 2001.

Sixty-year-old Li Xiujiang, is a resident of Weifang City, Shandong Province. One day in May 2000, a group of local police, led by their supervisor, broke into Li Xiujiang's house and arrested him. They took him to the police station and hung him from a basketball backboard. After Mr. Li was tortured for the entire night by this group of vicious policemen, he was handcuffed and hung from a metal bed. Later the whole family were arrested and had to pay 400 Yuan each as a bail, so as to be released.

On February 18, 2004, Shan Wu, director of the political and education department, used lies to slander Falun Dafa practitioners in his speech at a school-wide safety conference at the No.1 Senior High School in Changtu county, Liaoning province. Wang Zhe, a junior in the school, went to the supervisor's office to clarify the truth of Falun Gong that evening. The next day, Wang Zhe's father was asked to come to the school. The school authorities told him that Wang Zhe promoted Falun Gong to the teachers, so the school decided to expel him. Soon after he was arrested and sent to a detention centre.

Mr. Li Qinzhou and his wife Zhang Chunmei were both retired workers from Hua County Steel Company of Shaanxi Province. The couple started to practise Falun Gong in 1997 and benefitted tremendously. On June 19, 2002, a group of policemen suddenly broke into the home of the elderly couple's daughter's, ransacked the home and took away the couple. Mr. Li was sentenced to 2 years of forced labour. His wife spent one month in a detention centre. On November 25, 2002, Zhang Chunmei and her son went to visit Li Qinzhou and found he was in a good state. However, 4 days later news came that he had died. Zhang Bingyan, director of the prison, said Li died of a heart attack. At present Li Qinzhou's death still remains a mystery.

Ms. Wang Dongmei, in her 30's, was a schoolteacher in a town in Hebei Province. After a period in a labour camp, the police transferred her to a mental hospital to attempt to break her will and torture her with improperly administered psychotic drugs. When she returned home people immediately noticed that her mental state was poor. When asked what she was doing in the hospital, she replied slowly, "Take medicine and get jabs." When asked if she was forced to take medicine and injections, she said, "Yes." Wang Dongmei became mentally unbalanced due to the drug torture. She fell into a pond and, unable to save herself, drowned on March 12, 2004.

Fang Simin, was promoted to vice director of the "610 Office"(1) in Mengyin, Shandong Province, as a reward for persecuting Dafa practitioners. To realize the "transformation" of practitioners by torture, he hired some jobless men (aged 18-22 and poorly educated) at a cheap price as his hatchet men in his detention place. He paid them 200 yuan a month and assigned them uniforms and did not let anyone know their names and addresses. Under Fang's instruction and incitement, these thugs freely beat and swore at the detained practitioners. Sometimes Fang personally participated in the torture.

Mr. Zhang Jianxun was a 64-year-old resident of Hebei Province. He was jailed at the Shijiazhuang City Labour Camp, where he received brutal beatings and was also forced to work nearly 20 hours a day. The police denied him sleep and tortured him around the clock. He suddenly lost his memory and could not speak. The doctors diagnosed that he had suffered a stroke. On June 13, 2002, he passed away in the hospital despite emergency treatment.

While jailed at the Shijiazhuang City Labour Camp, Mr. Zhang was first put in the "Strictly Disciplined Class," where he was forced to keep his head down when walking; otherwise he would receive brutal beatings. Every day he had to get up at 6:00 o'clock in the morning and then was forced to squat facing the wall. He was also forced to work nearly 20 hours a day. Several days later, he could no longer endure the hard labour. He often stumbled and he could not easily get up. Seeing he could no longer work, the police then transferred him to a different unit

Dafa Practitioner Mr. Wang Shouqi, 49 years old, was a Dafa practitioner from Dehui City, Jilin Province. He was then sent to forced labour in December 2000, being detained in the Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp, Jiutai City, Jilin Province. As he was firm in his belief in Dafa, he suffered from all kinds of torture methods as well as extremely hard, forced labour. His lung function turned abnormal and he vomited blood. On March 11, 2003, during a mass search and arrest action by Jilin police, he was forcibly taken away from home. He was detained again and again suffered serious bodily harm. After returning home, he passed away on June 19, 2003.

Since February 11, 2004, personnel from the "610 Office" and policemen in Shuangcheng City rounded up Dafa practitioners. According to incomplete statistics, by February 28, over forty practitioners had been arrested. Based on the most recent information, among the arrested, three practitioners were tortured to death within a couple of days, including two unidentified practitioners. We have learned that this action was ordered by the assistant director of the political and security department in Shuangcheng City and was executed by the director of the national security department, Jin Wanzhi.

"I am Ms Chu Jianjun, 53 years old this year, and I reside in Beijing. At the end of 1979, I suddenly became ill with a rare and unpleasant affliction known as lupus and no medicine could control the rapidly spreading condition. I was afflicted with many other diseases, which made me lose the courage to face life. One day in May 1993, when I was at the end of my endurance, a friend of mine introduced me to Falun Gong. I had not worked for the previous twelve years. After I practised Falun Gong for only two months, my body and mind were cleansed swiftly. At the end of July 1993, I went back to work. From that point on, I bade farewell to being a chronic invalid. Once the persecution started my husband and I were harassed, arrested and detained many times just for continuing the practice.

"Inspired by the Great Cultural Revolution and under orders from the National Education Department, all teachers and students from primary schools to universities have to sign a statement against Falun Gong. Teachers who refuse to participate, or those who do not give up Falun Gong cultivation will be dismissed and unlawfully detained. Students are excluded by the school, not allowed to go to a higher grade or graduate and are even forcibly sent to different kinds of brainwashing classes."

Dafa practitioner Mr. Cao Yuqiang was in his 40s and lived in Pulandian City, Liaoning Province. He suffered cruel persecution ever since July 20, 1999, when Jiang Zemin's group began persecuting Falun Gong. Mr. Cao was detained numerous times and savagely tortured. Cao Yuqiang had been in great physical condition and weighed about 176 lbs. After suffering fiendish tortures his weight dropped to about 88 lbs, and his thighs were skinnier than an average person's arm. He passed away at home at 6:00 p.m. on April 8, 2004, within one year after his release.

Because of his alleged participation in broadcasting documentary programmes about the persecution of Falun Gong on TV in the Shahe and Xingtai areas, Mr. Cheng Fengxiang from Hebei Province, was arrested by local police on on January 28, 2004. In order to obtain a reward for finding out the whereabouts of the equipment used for the TV broadcasts, the Criminal Police Squadron Captain, Yang Qingshe, tortured Cheng Fengxiang by jamming bamboo slivers under his fingernails. The scene of the torture shocked other policemen that were watching.

One morning in the winter of 2000, the police brought the body of a young man who had been tortured to death to the emergency ward of a Beijing Hospital. When the doctors asked the police about the young man's name and his home address, the police said, "He doesn't have a name; he is a Falun Gong practitioner." Police demanded the hospital produce a death certificate that stipulated that the young practitioner had died suddenly of a heart attack. Although doctors refused, the police went to the head of the hospital and sealed all records containing information related to the practitioner's death. It is unknown what the hospital wrote as the cause of death on this young Falun Gong practitioner's death certificate.

Because of my wrongdoing, in 2003 I was sent to the Jilin Province Jiutai Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp. When I first arrived, due to the deceptive propaganda I had received while out in the world, I held a biased view and had a bad impression of the Falun Gong practitioners detained at the camp. Later, however, through frequent contact with the practitioners, my viewpoint gradually changed. I found out that they were not like what the TV stations, radio stations, or the newspapers had broadcast. Falun Gong practitioners were actually good people in society. Yet the treatment they received in the camp was so terrible, you would not believe it! I am revealing this cruel goings-on so that I hope that more people may offer understanding and sympathy to those being so unjustly persecuted.

On the evening of March 31, 2004, a site containing Falun Gong materials in Kaiyuan City, Liaoning Province was raided and destroyed by police. In order to escape abduction and cruel interrogation by the police, Ms. Chen Qing tried to slide down the side of the building using a bed sheet. Unfortunately, she fell and died. When we arrived at around 7:00 PM, we saw Ms. Chen's body at the foot of the six-story building. She was face down, and there was a big puddle of blood on the ground around her head. At the same time, we saw the long, knotted bed sheet, hanging from the sixth floor window.

Ms. Wang Yan, about 37 years old, is believed to be from Dalian City. She was abducted and taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp where she was tortured to emaciation and later sent to a mental hospital. Ms. Wang Wenjun, about 40 years old, experienced brainwashing, sleep deprivation and slave labour. Exposed to toxic materials, the unbearable intensity of such labour severely damaged her health. She was tortured to the brink of death. Ms. Zhao Caihua, around 30 years old, was hung up for two days and one night. She was also forced to sit in the cross-leg position for over 10 hours, and was coughing blood at the end. At the end she could not walk at all.

Ai Dan, a fourteen-year old girl, was a student in Hunan Province. She started practising Falun Dafa in 1998. In order to encourage people to follow "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance," Ai Dan began to promote Dafa to the teachers and students around her. One of the classmates who did not understand Falun Gong reported her to the teacher. The school officials tried to intimidate her, saying, "You have to leave school if you want to practise Falun Gong." Ai Dan was expelled from the school.

Great damage has been done to Falun Gong practitioners in almost five years of persecution. Jiang iimplemented genocidal policies to "ruin Falun Gong practitioners' reputation, devastate them finanically, and physically destroy them," and to record all deaths of Falun Gong practitioners in police custody as "suicides." Each Falun Gong practitioner is forced to make a choice between death and their noble belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance."

Mr. Wang Zengcheng was a 41-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner from Tianjin City. In 2003, he was unjustly sent to forced labour for 2.5 years. In the beginning of 2004, when his term was close to expiration, he was beaten to death for refusing to write and sign the so-called "Repentance Statement." [statement giving up the Falun Gong practice] When his family examined Mr. Wang Zengcheng's body, they found that no skin on his body, except an area the size of an egg, was in normal condition. This was confirmed in the official autopsy report.

Ms. Pei Cuirong of Hebei Province suffered inhumane torture in a labour camp in Tangshan City. Her body was black and blue from savage electric shock batons. One day at the end of 2002, she suddenly felt dizzy and lost her eyesight. She was sent to a hospital, but not long after she returned home, one day she suddenly lost consciousness. This happened several times until finally she passed away in late June 2003.

Mr. Wang Dayuan, 30 years old, was a teacher at the Computer Science and Technology Institute of Harbin Industry University. In November of 2002, the police unlawfully arrested him and ransacked his home. He received an eight-year prison term to be served at Harbin First Prison. He was tortured to death on April 5, 2004. The prison leaders tried to shift responsibility by saying that three criminal inmates beat Mr. Wang to death. We all know that the criminal inmates would not dare to commit such a crime without being ordered to by the police. The unexpected sad news brought Mr. Wang's family enormous pain. The young wife, young child, and elderly parents can no longer see their most beloved one.

Ms. Yang Junping was a 30-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Inner Mongolia, with a 12 year old child. After taking up the practice of Falun Gong she recovered from the late-stage cancer she had been suffering from. However due to several detentions her old illnesses recurred. The police demanded 2,000 yuan from her as a condition for her release on medical parole. In order to get her out, the family had to their mortgage their home to pay the police. After Ms. Yang returned home, the police still often harassed and monitored her. In August 2002, she passed away.

Ms. Wang Shuhua was a 58-year-old resident of Tianjin City. Because she persisted in practising Falun Gong and clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, she was arrested on July 20, 2001. While in the detention center, she was mercilessly tortured. This caused her heart disease, which had been cured through the practice of Falun Gong, to recur. She was released 50 days later, but passed away on June 1, 2002 as a result of the persecution she had suffered.

Mr. Liu Wenbin, 54, was an official with the Light Industry Bureau Supply Company of Xiantao City. After having recovered from various diseases since he started practising Falun Gong, he was happy to tell people the benefits he had received, even after the persecution began. Unfortunately he was thus arrested and he lost his job. Criminals beat, insulted him and he endured rigourous brainwashing. When his family came to talk to policeman Zhou Guohuai and explained to him that Liu was very weak. Zhou said, "I'm not afraid of him dying here." Later Liu was released but the police kept harassing him until he passed away.

On September 29th, 2002, Zhang Yanrong was abducted and sent to Pi County Detention Centre. The police did not inform her family members. The week that her case was brought to court, she was subjected to various tortures. She was not allowed to sleep, and several dozen policemen took turns interrogating her, constantly shining glaring lights in her face. She was handcuffed very tightly, and the handcuffs cut deep into her flesh. The police did not allow her to close her eyes, they even yelled, “we will beat you till your brain stops working."
