Dafa practitioner Ms. Yang Zhongfang was 37 years old when officers from the Jiangong Police Station in Yanji City beat her to death overnight. Originally from Chengdu City, she had a deli business at the Xiyuan Market near the Yanxi Street Brick Factory in Yanji City. Because she was a warm and conscientious person, her business did well. The people living nearby loved her food. Ms. Yang Zhongfang also did lots of good things for the market, but she was persecuted for her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Shuxian was in her 40's and had lived in Nongan County, Jilin Province. She went to Beijing to appeal in January 2000, and police from Nongan County arrested her and sent her to a detention centre. They tortured her viciously until she had a heart attack. She strongly urged the detention centre authorities to release her, but the perpetrators ignored her request. Five days later, she fainted and remained unconscious. Ms. Wang Shuxian passed away three days later.

In January 2001, Zhang was sent back to Yushu City Detention Centre. The police from the political security section brutally beat her, leaving wounds all over her body. After she returned to her cell, she had difficulty catching her breath. She passed out twice. After she regained consciousness, she said she felt sharp pain in her internal organs, which was a result of the police's brutal beating.

Mr. Wang Wenbo, was a forty five year old practitioner from Aimin Village, Shuangcheng City. He was arrested and taken to Harbin Changlinzi Labour Camp when he was working away from his hometown. He was released on January 17, 2004 after suffering two years of horrible persecution in the labour camp. He was tortured because he believed in the principles of Truthfulness - Compassion - Tolerance. He was unwilling to betray his faith and thus his life was tragically cut short.

In December 2000, Mudanjiang City University staff member Wang Jiguo was illegally detained at a forced labour camp. He had been tortured so severely that his entire body was swollen. He suffered from blurred vision and severe liver damage. Wang was released in September 2001. In July 2002 was he was sentenced to 7-year prison term at Mudanjiang CityPrison. Between June and July 2003, Wang was tortured until he was again on the verge of death. In September 2003 Wang died at the age of 40.

One day in 2001, Ms. Liu Limei was taken against her will to the Second Detention Centre in Harbin City. She was sentenced to Wanjia Labour Camp without proper legal procedure. In the labour camp, any practitioner who refused to renounce their belief was tortured with various brutal methods. The torture methods included: being beaten and cursed at, being beaten while hung up or handcuffed, sitting on the "Tiger Bench" for an extended period of time, being hung for four or five days without being released, and being locked in a solitary confinement.

Falun Dafa practitioners in Benxi City put up truth-clarification banners with the words "Tiananmen Square self-immolation is aimed at framing Falun Dafa." The authorities of the city set out to find those involved in making the banners. A former Falun Gong practitioner assisting in the persecution who had renounced Falun Gong due to brainwashing and torture reported Zhao Chenglin and Wang Lijuan. The city authorities then treated the couple as "key members" of Falun Gong.

Since August 2002, the head of Wanjia Labour Camp, Lu Zhenshan, has been escalating the persecution of Dafa practitioners using more violence. Lu Zhenshan has been very hostile towards Dafa. Some policemen who still respected their conscience could not stand to witness his brutality. Lu would verbally abuse whoever showed sympathy to Dafa practitioners and later transferred such policemen to different units.

Beginning on October 1st, 2003, Fangqiang Labour Camp began a new campaign of persecution targeting Falun Gong. Policemen threw female Falun Gong practitioner Gao Yulan in with male prisoners to create an environment of terror. They directed male criminal Ju Dachun to strip Gao naked and allowed him to sexually abuse her as he pleased. Their actions caused complaints from some policemen who still had a conscience, and also sparked indignation from other prisoners within the camp who learned of this situation.

During detention, Liu was tortured both mentally and physically. As a result, she developed oedema all over her body. Seeing that she was near death, the political security section of the Boli County Police Department callously extorted several thousand yuan from her family and sent her home. Not long after she returned home, Liu passed away on August 23, 2001.

In March 2003, Li Ying, owner of a food store on Haicheng Street, Wanghua District of Fushun City, was taken away by Division One police. She was tortured to death. In April of the same year, Wang Youcai, a worker at the Toushankeng Factory in Fushun City, was beaten so horrifically that the flesh on his legs was separated from the bones and his legs were very swollen. Police from Division One claimed in front of other practitioners, "We are the ones who beat Wang Youcai to disability!"

Currently the Chengdu City Detention Centre is illegally holding four to five hundred Dafa practitioners. This detention centre was remodeled and is able to hold thousands of people. Before one reaches the third iron door, there are already 12 cellblocks. It is unknown how many cells are behind the third iron door. Each cellblock is a 2-floor building with 24 cells. Every cell is about 40 square meters including a toilet and bathroom. They packed every room with 20-30 people. There was no fan during the summer.

The Fanjiatai Prison, built from funds collected from the public, has now become a den for the torture of good people. Many prisoners considered the thugs' role a great opportunity and took the offer of transferring to the 7th division. Regardless of how hard other prisoners worked in other divisions, the maximum prison term reduction in their cells was only about 27%, whereas, in 7th division, almost every prisoner had an opportunity to gain a reduction of prison term by assaulting Falun Gong practitioners.

When fellow practitioners went to visit him, he was just skin and bones. Moreover, he was bedridden and could not eat or drink anything. His family members told the practitioners that he could no longer recognize people. When practitioners mentioned the experience of clarifying the truth together with him, he only had a blank look. However, when the practitioners mentioned "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," his eyes brightened, and there was a little smile on his face. Then tears welled up in his eyes.

Two days later, Mr. Song's family was informed that he was dead. His family members were shocked to learn of this news and they planned to sue the Tiexi Police for torturing Song Shijie. The Tiexi Police did not want their crimes to be exposed, so they gave 50,000 yuan to Mr. Song's family as compensation. It is reported that Song Shijie's family members are still in the process of bringing a lawsuit against the Tiexi Police.

While in detention, the police tried to force him to swear at Teacher and Dafa, and to give up his belief in Falun Gong. The elderly gentleman said sternly, "I've been working in the government for dozens of years and I've never seen law enforcement personnel like you who intentionally violate the law! Which regulation states that we must swear at people? I practise Falun Gong and have a healthy body. Our Teacher teaches us not to fight back when beaten and not to curse back when being cursed.

According to the police, it was from that building that Ms. Li had jumped. After one day, Ms. Li's husband again went to the Coroners Laboratory Test Centre of the Beijing Public Security Bureau. The police had already sent faxes to notify all of Ms. Li's family members that they had to agree that she had committed suicide by jumping off a building and, furthermore, that they all had to have their fingerprints taken to validate their agreement. Even Ms. Li's husband was forced to agree that she committed suicide.

Realizing that Lu was willing to defend his belief with his life, the criminals were extremely furious. They immediately went on to another round of torture. They closed the doors and windows again and turned the TV to the highest volume. They proceeded with the most evil and cruel torture. In less than one hour, Falun Gong practitioner Lu Xingguo was dead from torture at the hands of the police and the criminals.

On February the 24th 2004, the French magazine "Zatav.com", which is well known in the field of Internet security, published an article denouncing this mock trial against Falun Gong practitioners in Chongqing. The article quoted “Reporters Without Borders” who asked for the immediate release of 22 Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned for publishing information on the Internet.

Ms. Jiang Chunxian was a 34-year-old resident of Dehui City, Jilin Province. She was sentenced to 8 years in prison on January 15, 2004, and sent to the Heizuizi Prison in Changchun City. One month later, the prison police notified her family that Ms. Jiang had died. Her family discovered that at the back of her body, an excessively large pooling of blood had occurred, and that there were two large red areas on the insides of her thighs. These wounds proved that Ms. Jiang was tortured, perhaps with an electric baton.

Mr Zhao Xudong was arrested on December 7th, 2003 and died three months later in Lanzhou City Hualinshan No. 2 Detention Centre. His mother was arrested at the same time. Her whereabouts are unknown. Ms. Li Hongping, the deceased Mr. Zhao's wife, was sentenced to three years of forced labour for practicsng Falun Gong. Zhao's elderly father and eight-year-old daughter were left home by themselves. Zhao's father suffered a mental breakdown from the agonizing loss of his son.

On December 29, 2001, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Huaiqing, a retired teacher, was abducted and taken to Ningjin County Detention Centre. After his release, he was hospitalized for his poor health due to the torture suffered in the detention centre. Even though he was in the hospital, local "610 Office"* officials often harassed him. After his release from the hospital, these lawless people made his recovery impossible by their continuous harassment. Mr. Li died in August of 2003

Ms. Liu Xin, 40 years old, was a teacher at the Dasizhan Town Middle School. She was sent to the county detention centre where she was traumatized both physically and mentally. Her whole body swelled up and she was very close to death. Under strong protest from her family (it was said that her husband paid Sun Chengyi several thousand yuan), she was released home. After returning home, she was continuously harassed by her workplace and the local police station. She passed away on August 23, 2001.

Falun Dafa practitioner, Mr. Sun Faxiang from Guizhou Province was tortured to death in 2002. He had previously been arrested on January 25, 2002, together with his wife because they were both persistent in cultivating Dafa. On this occasion they were detained for one month. Mr. Sun was locked in an icy cold small cell while running a fever of 39-40oC (102-104oF). Police forced him to go to the train station to see if any Falun Dafa practitioners went to appeal to Beijing. He resisted their demands and was tortured to death.

Ms. Yu Xiuqing was 47 years old. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa in October 2000 and was arrested. Police sent her to Lingyuan City Detention Centre, then onto Masanjia Labour Camp at the beginning of November 2000. Yu suffered a nervous breakdown because she was tortured in the labour camp. Who can really know the agony and terrifying torment that this lady must have endured in the dark den of Masanjia Labour Camp?

Dafa Practitioner Mr. Liu Zhichen of Dehui City, Jilin Province was detained at the Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp in 2002. He was released on February 6, 2003. Due to the long term persecution he suffered while in the forced labour camp, his health was in poor condition when he returned home. Still, the local police continued to harass him and illegally searched his home. His family did not have any peace. At the age of 32 years old, Liu died in Dehui City Hospital on October 7, 2003. This is another crime the Jiang Zemin's regime has committed towards an innocent Falun Gong practitioner.

During her two-year incarceration in the Duoba Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Zhang Xuefeng was forcefully administered drugs damaging to her central nervous system, and thus became mentally deranged. She passed away within a year of being released. The day she died, Public Security officers tried to shift responsibility to Falun Gong. Her mother responded, "She was persecuted to death! She practised Falun Gong for several years and had always been healthy. Why did she become mentally deranged after she was released from the forced labour camp?" They fled without a reply.

'Imprisoning Wu for more than a two-year illegal extension and unwilling to release him, the labour camp insisted on forcing him to "be transformed". According to my personal experience, after my son started practising Falun Gong, he learned to become a good person. After that, he became very healthy, and became very gentle and docile as well. Furthermore, he also worked more earnestly. I do not understand what could be wrong with this? He hasn't harmed anyone. Certainly he hasn't harmed society. He is an extremely sensible and rational person. I wonder what they want to "transform" him into?'

Before the barbaric force-feeding which was to lead to her eventual death, a policeman in the Jinkou brainwashing centre said to Ms. Xu Yunfeng, "What does it matter if we beat a Falun Gong practitioner to death? The death of Falun Gong practitioners is nothing. At present time only Jiang Zemin's orders count. Even though Falun Gong is good, there is nothing we can do. Jiang Zemin has said that if a Falun Gong practitioner is beaten to death, we will use the story as propaganda and broadcast on CCTV"

In April, 2003, the head of the Shibalihe Women's Labour Camp received special notification that a quota of two Falun Gong practitioners' deaths was issued to the labour camp, sanctioning the escalation of violence against Falun Gong practitioners to get them to renounce their belief and give up their practice of Falun Gong... The police said, "We'll take no responsibility even if two of you are beaten to death, because the labour camp has received permission for two people to die!"

Officials at the Hewan Forced Labour Camp in Wuhan City have for a long time forced detainees to make toys for McDonald's, including an eagle toy and a bear toy. The workshop starts at 6:00 a.m. and stays open until 2:00 a.m. the next morning. The Sixth Team in the Hewan Forced Labour Camp specializes in persecuting women Falun Dafa practitioners.

At that time in the police station, there were over 400 Dafa practitioners from various areas who came to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Police dragged out them for interrogation one by one. I could only hear the painful screams of my fellow practitioners being tortured....There were practitioners who shouted at the police, telling them he couldn't take any more torture. Policemen just dragged that young man out and we never knew where they took him.

Frustrated, policeman Qi You said, "Falun Gong (practitioners) do not smoke, right?" and then lit a cigarette and forced it into Chen's mouth. He covered Chen's nose to force him to inhale. Chen passed out and later didn't know what happened. That day they took Mr. Chen and his wife to the police department for detention; their nine-year old child was left at home alone.

I knew that Bai had deceived me. Perhaps he had already colluded with the forced labour committee to deceive me. The Chinese Constitution says it protects every citizen's freedom of belief, freedom of speech, right to appeal. However, Falun Gong practitioners who only want to keep fit and be good people, have been ruthlessly deprived of all these basic human rights -- the ruling Party and government under Jiang's single-handed manipulation have trampled these constitutional rights.

I questioned the detention centre police as to why they opposed the law and regulations of the Chinese Constitution and tormented me with such a torture instrument that so gravely insults human dignity and impairs physical health. The police to my surprise ridiculed me, "So? Do you have a problem with it? Law? What is the law? Jiang Zemin is the law! We will do what Jiang Zemin says! If you have a problem you can talk to Jiang Zemin. Do you dare? We'll kill you!"

One day in June of 2000 Wang Jianfeng and many others broke into my home and threatened me, "We have new orders from Jiang. We thought everything was ok after holding the brainwashing class. But we have received orders via telephone from above that we must detain you until you are transformed."... Seeing that I still would not give in, they said: "She obviously will not give in." They then tried to force me to curse at a picture of Teacher. They beat me with wooden clubs until they shattered two of them. They said to me, "We have orders from Jiang Zemin -- it is not a crime to kill Falun Gong practitioners."

I was taken back to Fuxin and held at the detention centre there. The police at the detention centre told me, "You should just die here. This is the territory of Jiang Zemin."...One day, Wang Dazhu inserted a tube into my stomach and pumped in hard liquor and beer. He said, "You Falun Gong people don't drink alcohol, right? We are forcing you to drink alcohol. The head of the labour camp approved it."

An old man riding a bicycle hit by a car in Yangtun Village, Zhuanghe City, Liaoning Province. Without saying anything, the old man simply got up, brushed off the dirt and then got on his bike and left. The security chief officer's wife happened to witness the whole thing. She shouted, "He must be a Falun Gong practitioner. Otherwise he would have asked for money from the car driver. Catch the old man quickly!" Such a story is really sad, as good people are arrested while bad people remain at large. Sadder is the fact that such a story is not uncommon in China.

In April 2001, several foreign reporters were planning to visit the Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp. The whole labour camp, from the top levels down to the lower levels, began their customary acts of deception, forcing practitioners of all groups to repeatedly watch those internally-produced video programmes entitled, "60 Questions and Answers for the Foreign Reporters." They drilled practitioners, forcing them to be consistent in speaking these astonishing lies. For example, if asked whether the detainees here were verbally abused, beaten or physically abused, the answer must be "no."

According to Amnesty International's medical advice, these drugs are not in themselves sinister. There are specific disorders for which they are prescribed, but they should be administered by qualified doctors, and their use monitored. In the light of cases of torture and ill-treatment of Falun Gong practitioners, and in the absence of evidence that they suffer from any psychiatric disorder, it is evident that the administration of such drugs are a punitive measure.

Professor Piao was a good man with great virtue. He taught many outstanding students and had many academic achievements. But such a good person was subjected to such inhumane persecution by Jiang Zemin's group until, in the end, he died in the Yanji Detention Centre with no legal recourse, simply because he believed in Falun Dafa and Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance.

The International Conference on “Genocide in the New Era”, organised by “Friends of Falun Gong Europe” and “International Advocates for Justice”, took place in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm from January 26th to January 28th 2004. This is one of the conference speeches by New York Bar attorney Theresa Chu entitled "Justice against the Crime of Genocide", which was given on the morning of Tuesday January 27th.

Mr. Zhang Mengye was a graduate from the Department of Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering. He was a classmate of Hu Jintao, China's General Secretary. He was persecuted for writing to the central government before 1999 to express his understanding of Falun Gong. The "610 Office" of Guangdong Province devoted a lot of manpower to searching everywhere for him. They threatened that they would arrest him and send him to forced labour or a brainwashing class

Because of my age, it was not easy for me to find a job. Thus, I had a lot of tribulations and have not been able to pay back my debt up to now. My children were seriously damaged by this incident. My younger daughter felt anxious all the time. In addition, the lies and hate-inciting propaganda on the TV, as well as the sneering from our neighbours and other people who didn't know the truth, all made my children unable to thrive, and it seemed to them that I had done some disgraceful things.

However, would a poor farming family like Ms. Chen's be able to come up with such a large sum of money? Ms. Chen's husband fell into the depths of despair and almost committed suicide to escape the fine. Under the police's coercion and threats, he had no choice but to borrow money from friends and relatives. The police had also harassed them at home, and repeatedly ransacked their home. They wouldn't give Ms. Chen's family a moment of peace.

They built an iron fence around the houses, set up monitors in every room and in all the places where Dafa practitioners were active, and hired security guards. Thus they effectively turned the area into a prison built especially for the "610 Office." All the practitioners who are sent to this brainwashing centre are forced to pay 2,000 to 5,000 Yuan. The "610 Office" staff either coerces the practitioners' families to pay the fine, or deducts the money from the practitioners' salaries or pensions.

After several days, we were forced to work. The work was to wrap wooden chopsticks with a layer of paper. "Sterilized" was printed on the paper. In fact it was not hygienic at all. Detainees who had hepatitis, venereal disease, and other illnesses also had to work. None of us were ever asked to wash our hands before work. About 40 detainees were crowded in one room, and the chopsticks were piled up on the ground and on our beds. Hygiene was minimal.

According to a February 13, 2004 report from the Falun Dafa Information Center, persons at the Qinghe Forced Labour Camp in Beijing had infused the 51-year-old retired teacher Ms. Zhang Shuzhen with a toxic substance for refusing to give up her Falun Gong practice. The infusion led to violent stomach pains.

In April 2001, to force Falun Dafa practitioners to give up their cultivation, the third division tortured Liang Baochi and other practitioners who had been recently sent there. The practitioners were forced to run over 80 laps around the athletic field. Practitioner Yuxue recited one of the Teacher's poems. The persons who watched him then reported him to the division leader.

Yang Songpeng yelled upon seeing him: "You again went to spread the flyers!" Lu Zhifan explained to him that he was just visiting friends. Yang Songpeng showed him a flyer and insisted that it was spread by him. His wife also explained that they did not distribute the flyers, but Yang Songpeng still yelled: "Even if you did not spread the flyers, I would still detain you and detain you until death!"
