On May 13th, 2009, four practitioners from the Xuanhua District of Zhangjiakou City were arrested at Liu Yongli's home. They are Yan Xiulian, Feng Yanli, Liu Yongli and Wang Minghai. Afterwards, their homes were all ransacked. However, the perpetrators were so afraid that they did not present any documents, nor did they identify where they were coming from when they were doing these wrong deeds. These practitioners' relatives don't know their whereabouts.

The Chuanxi Women's Prison and the Chuanxi Prison are located between Luodai Town and Hongan Town, southeast of Chengdu City in Sichuan Province. Although both prisons look modern on the outside, especially the Chuanxi Women's Prison which has been beautifully renovated, Falun Gong practitioners are still being brutally persecuted inside. The suffering and torment that practitioners have to endure is not apparent on the outside.

Ever since July 20th, 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched its persecution against Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Li Weiling and his wife, Ms. Liu Yan have been continuously pursued, arrested and detained by CCP officials from the following institutions in Heilongjiang Province: Beixing Police Station, Fulaer District Detention Centre and Detention House, Shuanghe Forced Labour Camp and Fuyu Forced Labour Camp in Qiqihar City. After their release, Mr. Li Weiling and Ms. Liu Yan were still harassed by officials of the Beixing Police Station and their home was monitored. They couldn't tolerate the constant harassment and compromise of their personal freedom, so they left home and have been travelling from place to place.

Practitioner Li Guochen was arrested by the local police in March 2008. The police beat and tortured him during the entire night, leaving bruises all over his body and face, and breaking one of his teeth. He was then put in the forced labour camp for 1½ years. On the day of his release, Mr. Li was taken to the Xinglongshan Brainwashing Centre by the police and the local 610 Office personnel on June 8th, 2009.

On April 19th, 2007, five police suddenly broke into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Mujun. At the detention centre torture left Ms. Zhao with injuries on her wrists, arms, back, buttocks and legs. Later, Ms. Zhao was unjustly sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp. Ms. Zhao's husband had suffered a stroke 15 years ago and she had been taking care of him. Since his wife was taken away, Mr. Chai had no one that could take care of him. He died without seeing his wife one last time. Ms. Zhao's father also passed away shortly after her sentencing.

The Guiyang City 610 Office imprisons practitioners in the Guiyang City Brainwashing Camp. Even practitioners in their 70's and 80's are not spared. The 610 Office pursues and arrests practitioners who try to leave town in order to flee arrest. They cheat practitioners who are retired and want to move out of town by saying that there is paperwork which requires their presence in the office. If the practitioner sees through the lies, the office issues a directive to the police department for their arrest.

Ms. Wu Shenghua, who was in her seventies, was reported to police while giving someone a Falun Gong blessing card on June 8th, 2009, and later arrested by police at her home. The police ransacked her home and damaged some furniture. After being tortured for three days, Ms. Wu developed high blood pressure and heart disease. In fear of being responsible for her life, the police released her after extorting money from her family. She died on June 16th.

Mr. Zhou Jingcheng has been sentenced to prison, sent to a labour camp twice, detained seven times and forced to undergo a variety of tortures due to his belief in Falun Gong. He is currently detained in the Wangling Prison. Since 1999, Mr. Zhou Jingcheng has spent the majority of his time in jails, and almost 60,000 yuan has been extorted from his family. In 2003 police handcuffed Mr. Zhou's hands behind his back and suspended him from the handcuffs tied to window bars for over twenty hours. Other torture methods included sleep deprivation and stripping him, then dousing him with water and turning on a fan to chill him during the winter.

In July 2007 I was arrested by police officers from the local National Security team and taken to a site used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. There, I was savagely tortured and interrogated. I was tortured for three days. The police handcuffed me to a metal chair and then beat my head. They handcuffed my hands behind my back with one hand over my shoulder and put six beer bottles between my back and hands. My arms quickly became numb due to lack of circulation. The police opened the handcuffs for a few minutes and then closed them again. I was later taken to a detention centre for a month, and was subsequently imprisoned in Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp, Changchun City, Jilin Province.

Ms. Wang Wenduan, 53, was arrested, detained, tortured and forced to do hard labour because she refused to give up Falun Gong. In a detention centre guards tried to force her to give up her belief. They shocked her with electric batons and beat her with rubber batons. They spread her arms and legs, cuffed them on an iron bed, and then they beat the soles of her feet with wooden batons with nails, smashing her feet. Because of the trauma she passed away in July 2004.

Mr. Yang Xiuming, a Falun Gong practitioner and officer in the Xinhuang County Civil Affairs Bureau, was reported to the police for distributing information about Falun Gong. He was arrested by police. Mr. Yang is currently being held in the Yuping County Detention Centre. He has been sentenced to a term of seven years imprisonment. Prior to his sentencing, he had been detained and persecuted in Dujun City Prison where he was not allowed any visits by his family members

Practitioner Ms. Tan Yinxiang was arrested at noon on March 16th, 2009. That night a group of three or four police ransacked Ms. Tan's home. Her daughter tried every possible way to find out where Ms. Tan was taken, but by the end of March, she still had no clue. Ms. Tan is currently jailed at the Shabao Women's Forced Labour Camp and has been sentenced for two years forced labour. Four other practitioners in the area were also arrested and sent to forced labour.

On June 18th, 2009, the Jinshantun Court of Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province secretly opened a session and gave long sentences to three Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Zhang Peixun, Mr. Zhang Yongsheng and Mr. Li Congfu were given prison sentences of nine, eleven, and eight years, respectively. It was clear that the judge intended to convict the three practitioners with a charge of interfering with the implementation of law. When the practitioners' lawyers asked which law the practitioners interfered the implementation of, the judge could not respond. The three practitioners have submitted an appeal of the unjust sentences.

Ms. Zhu Xixian, over 50 years old, is a practitioner from Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. Since last year, she has been arrested and detained by the police twice, and had large amounts of money extorted from her. Each time she was persecuted to the brink of death. Ms. Zhu was able to flee to freedom, but now she is forced to live away from home to avoid further persecution.

Mr. Guo Xingguo, around 40 years old, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after attempting to go to Beijing to appeal against the persecution in 2002. In 2003, he was released because he was dying as a result of torture. But in 2004 he was imprisoned again. He became ill again and died on June 3rd, 2009.

Forty-something-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fang Min was severely persecuted at the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp and her life was in danger. She had symptoms of cancer, her four limbs were swollen and she was not able to speak. The forced labour camp issued a notice for her to be released on bail for medical treatment on June 8th, 2009. The local police station came to take her back on June 9th and she was sent home the same day.

In January 2009, guards in the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City beat practitioner Mr. Jiang Xiqing until he was unconscious. While he was still alive, the guards cremated him. In the afternoon on May 13th, lawyers Mr. Zhang Kai, and Mr. Li Chunfu from Beijing were in the victim's home providing legal assistance and investigating the case when they were detained, beaten, and interrogated for over five hours. There were over twenty police officers at the scene. To force Mr. Jiang's family to abandon legal proceedings, Jiangjin District Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Politics and Law Committee Secretary Wan Fenghua increased the threats and persecution against Mr. Jiang's family.

On February 1st, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guan Hua was sentenced to one year and six months of "re-education" through forced labour in Wanjia Forced Labour Camp. The guards attempted to force the practitioners to take a so-called test. The guards decided that Ms. Guan failed her "examination," so they forced her to stand on a stool, then pulled both hands behind her back. A guard tied her hands with one end of a rope, then passed the another end through a heating pipe above a window, while two other guards pulled forcefully on the rope. Ms. Guan then hung helplessly in the air. In order to cover up their torture activities, guard Jiang Tao used adhesive tape to cover Ms. Guan's mouth.

Mr. Liang Yuncheng, 42, a resident from Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province, was arrested for practising Falun Gong. He was detained for more than three months and tortured to near blindness. Recently, the director of the Fengcheng Detention Centre called Mr. Liang's brother and told him that Mr. Liang needed a defence lawyer for his upcoming trial. When Mr. Liang's brother went to the detention centre to find out more about the case, the guards would not let him in the building.

Mr. Li Feng is imprisoned at the Fourth Prison of Shijiazhuang City. He is in critical condition, but the prison administration refuses to release him to get medical help. Mr. Li developed many severe illnesses as a result of persecution after he was imprisoned in 2002. In 2005, he was in a coma for 14 hours after he was forced to work under 113 degree Fahrenheit conditions in a tube factory. By June 2nd, 2009, Mr. Li had high blood pressure. He also suffers from uncontrollable vomiting. Mr. Li is in critical condition yet the prison refuses to release him.

Mr. Xu Dawei, 34, was from Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. Mr. Xu was persecuted for eight years by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in four prisons. Mr. Xu was tortured in a number of ways: violent brainwashing, being forced to wear handcuffs and shackles for extensive periods of time, brutal beatings, being hung up, force-feeding, being beaten with a rubber hose, being pierced with a steel needle more than 10 cm long, and electric baton shocks. Just 13 days after returning home, on February 16th, 2009, Mr. Xu died.

On September 25th, 2008, when Ms. Zhao Guiqin was doing housework at home, police arrested and detained her at the Donggang Detention Centre. On December 12th, 2008, Ms. Zhao was secretly sentenced to three-and-a-half years imprisonment by the public security and procuratorate authorities and the people's court. At present, Ms. Zhao can no longer walk due to the brutal torture, but the Donggang Procuratorial Judicial and Public Security Committee refuses to release her.

Since the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, the County 610 Office agents detained Mr. Liu Nailun, 40, in brainwashing centres twice, four months in all. He eventually served three years in a forced labour camp, followed by a four-year prison sentence. His wife was forced to divorce him. Liu Nailun did not give up his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance during his four-year prison term and returned home with his head held high. He lost all of his possessions. He has found a menial job and lives a hard life.

On August 8th, 2008, Laizhou City police scaled the wall of the place where I was staying and arrested me and took me to Dianzi Brainwashing Centre. During the 12-day detention in the brainwashing centre, there were eight days when I was hung up [by handcuffed wrists] and deprived of sleep. Because my arms were cuffed for so long, I couldn't move them at all after I was finally let down. My legs and feet were swollen to the point that I couldn't wear my shoes. My hands had no feeling and I couldn't straighten my fingers. Now that seven months have passed, I still have numbness in my hands, and my ears sometimes ring. My left arm still hurts and I can't move it very quickly.

On February 19th, 2005, police arrested Ms. Yuan Shuzhe in front of the Shijilianhua Market. At he police station, Ms. Yuan's hands were handcuffed behind her back. They stepped on her to make her squat. Then the short torturer squatted before her, and while holding her chin, asked, "Are you Yuan Shuzhe?" She would not answer. They repeatedly struck her head with full water bottles for a time until the short torturer asked again, "Are you Yuan Shuzhe?" Still, she did not answer. All three of the torturers beat her head. The two tall torturers stretched her arms upward as far as they could, inserted a needle into the tip of her right middle finger until it was about halfway in, then he turned the needle and pulled it out.

Mr. Wu Yang and his wife Ms. Sun Min went to Beijing to avoid being harassed and persecuted by their local Chinese Communist Party officials. On April 22nd, Mr. Wu Yang was distributing Falun Gong DVDs and was arrested. On April 28th, police sent Ms. Sun Min's family a "Death Notice" which stated: "On April 23rd, Sun Min was found dead as a result of falling from a height." However, Ms. Sun's family found marks of torture on her body, head, shoulder, neck, wrists and hands.

Ms. Xiang Maohua, 65, is a Falun Gong practitioner who lived in Sichuan Province. During the past ten years, the police pursued and later arrested and detained her five times. She recounts: "The fourth time I was arrested, police slapped me in the face and grabbed my hair and knocked my head against a wall. They also forced me to stand for long periods of time. For twelve days in a row, they subjected me to various tortures, non-stop. My blood pressure suddenly shot up to 180 over 220 and I spat out blood... I was in grave danger."

Mr. Xiong Wende was persecuted many times while in prison and in a mental hospital over the past few years. In October 2007, police arrested Xiong Wende. They took him to the Tangxunhu Brainwashing Centre in Wuhan City. Because Mr. Xiong refused to sell out his fellow practitioners, a director named Gong got very angry, grabbed Mr. Xiong's collar, and pulled him off his chair. He slapped him with both hands. In July 2008, police picked the lock on Xiong Wende's home. For about two hours they searched all over, confiscating many of his private belongings. Mr. Xiong was then arrested by the Public Security Bureau. He escaped after two days and is still unable to go home.

I work for a famous Dutch travel agency as a tour leader and have guided tourists in China for 18 years. In the second half of April 2009, while leading a tour group in China, I was arrested and interrogated by officers with Beijing's National Security force. On May 11th, after I took a tourist group to the airport, I went back to my hotel. At about 3 p.m., someone knocked on my door. It was hotel security. They told me that the police wanted to ask me some questions. I tried to close the door immediately, but they pushed their way in and arrested me.

Mr. Xie Deqing was a healthy and energetic person. After twenty days of detention in the Xinjin Brainwashing Facility at the Chengdu Law Study Centre, how did he become only skin and bones? He became incontinent and was not able to eat or drink. He also had serious symptoms of angina pectoris and was unconscious much of the time. What happened at the brainwashing facility? What kind of persecution had Mr. Xie been subjected to? Before Mr. Xie passed away on May 29th, he told his family with great difficulty, "At the Xinjin Brainwashing Facility when I was taken to a hospital for a physical examination, I was injected with unknown drugs. I was barely able to eat or drink anything for the next ten days."

Mr. Zhu Hongbing was sentenced to seven years in the Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City at the end of 2001. He refused to be brainwashed or wear the prisoner uniform, and was tortured brutally as a result. Mr. Zhu's term was to end by December 2008, but the prison administration refused to release him. Mr. Zhu went on a hunger strike until his life was endangered. Four people carried him out of the prison on December 29th, 2008. His family picked him up and took him to the hospital. His lungs had shrunk to the size of eggs. Mr. Zhu survived for six months in extreme pain and died on June 18th, 2009.

Mr. Liu Hongxiang, 34, was sentenced to three years of forced labour in 2000. The police sentenced Mr. Liu to another three years of forced labour in July 2004. In April 2009, his family took him to Shandong Province Tuberculosis Hospital and spent a large amount of money, but in vain. His liver and stomach were both ruined by the strong medication. He died early in the morning on June 20th, 2009.

Ms. Li Shuxian, 71, was arrested, brutally beaten, and shocked with an electric baton in 2002 for practising Falun Gong. In 2005, Ms. Li was sentenced to four years in prison. Ms. Li underwent many types of torture, including brainwashing, physical mistreatment, being locked in the small cell. She developed a tumour and the prison released her in May 2007. The Administration of the Dabei Prison checked up on her twice to make sure she was, in fact, too sick to return to prison. She died on May 9th, 2009.

Ms. Zhang Zhiyun, a sixty-six year-old Falun Gong practitioner in Shanghai, was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for over ten years and her house was monitored around the clock. In April 2009, Zhang Zhiyun went to the Public Security Bureau in Hongkou District to apply for a passport. Shortly after drinking water in the Public Security Bureau she felt sick all over her body and started to vomit blood heavily. After she had vomited blood for a week, her family took her to Central Hospital in the Hongkou District. On May 14th, 2009, Zhang Zhiyun suddenly passed away. Some doctors said privately that it was unusual and suspicious that she died so quickly.

Five years ago, Falun Gong practitioner Wang Jinzhong from Shenyang was tortured to death and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police sent his body to the hospital "to save him," but did so only after his death in an attempt to cover up their guilt. An eyewitness named Zhen witnessed the miserable shape of Wang Jinzhong's body and has verified that Wang Jinzhong was sent to the hospital only after he had been tortured to death by the policemen.

Mr. Xia Xingmin was arrested and detained by the "Falun Gong Task Force". During his detention, Mr. Xia was handcuffed, shackled, and pushed to the ground. They put a bench on his waist, using its four legs to hold him down, and a very large person sat on top of it. Four people shocked him all over with electric batons. They took turns in two-hour shifts, and shocked him for a whole night and worked him over. The next day, they locked him onto an iron chair (used specifically for torturing practitioners) for three consecutive days and nights. Every day they used a one-inch-diameter, two-foot-long baton to beat him on the back and thighs several times. His whole body was bruised during the 54-day detention. Later he was sentenced to nine years in prison.

On June 6th, 2009, about a dozen police officers from the police station in Anhua County, Yiyang City, Hunan Province intruded into Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xiao Jianqing's house after they shut off the electricity. They arrested 20 practitioners who were having an experience-sharing conference. Since July 20th, 1999, Chen Yongsheng, the 610 Office director in Anhua County has relentlessly persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. Starting in 2001, Chen launched massive arrests of Falun Gong practitioners and ransacked their houses, taking away all their valuables. His subordinate beat practitioner Zhou Fuliang to death, yet such a perpetrator has gone unpunished.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Su Yanhua was arrested several times and detained for her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. While incarcerated at the Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp, she refused to give up Falun Gong. The guards savagely beat her, force-fed her, tortured her with the "Death Bed" and the "Big Hang-up", and shocked her with high-voltage electric batons. They forced her to sit on stools with spikes on them, which caused severe and irreversible injuries. She died on May 4th, 2009 as a result.

I went to appeal for Falun Gong's human rights in Beijing, to tell the authorities my personal experience of benefiting from Falun Gong. But I was arrested and detained. Later I went to Beijing to appeal again. I was detained at the Dianbai County No. 2 Detention Centre. I was handcuffed to a window frame, deprived of sleep for five consecutive days and nights. I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and they brutally force-fed me. One time, the deputy head of the detention centre pushed me and I fell down hard. He violently kicked me several times in the abdomen. Other personnel and practitioners quickly pulled me out, fearing I might die from his brutality. Another time, Deputy Head Liang pushed me and made me hit a cement bed.

on April 23rd, 2008, while on his way to visit a friend, Mr. Li Xiande was arrested at the gate of Naji Garden by officers from the Songyuan City Domestic Security Section. The officers searched him, seized more than 300 yuan and his keys, which included his car and home keys. Then the officers drove his car to his home, arrested his wife and detained her at the Shanyou Detention Centre. Mr. Li's mother and his sister, Ms. Li Guixia were arrested the same day. Ms. Li's husband, a practitioner, fled arrest. Mr. Li was sentenced to a year of forced labour. His mother was detained for 15 days. His sister was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour. His wife was sentenced to a year of forced labour.

On May 8th, 2009, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) court in Cang County, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province sentenced five Falun Gong practitioners. Pu Jinfeng was sentenced to six years, Zhao Junfeng five years, Zhang Kanzhong four years and six months, Li Bing'an four years, and Liu Rujun three years and six months. At the beginning of March, 2009, Cang County Procuratorate made up charges and sent this fabricated case to Cang County court. The court then set a trial date for March 24th.

Since the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, a total of 58 Falun Gong practitioners in Tangshan City, Hebei Province have been sentenced to imprisonment. Among them, four Falun Gong practitioners have completed their terms and been released, and two practitioners have received suspended prison terms. At this time, at least 52 Falun Gong practitioners are being detained in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) prisons or detention centres and are there being persecuted. Since 2007, under orders from the CCP, officials have used the pretext of ensuring the "safety" of the Beijing Olympic Games as a justification for the persecution.

Because Ms. Su Zhifeng, 49, distributed leaflets exposing the persecution and told people the facts about Falun Gong in the early years of the persecution, she had to leave town to avoid arrest and survive on the wages of temporary labour. However, in August, 2004, police arrested Ms. Su. They sentenced her to three years in prison in the Nanjing City Women's Prison. Ms. Su was severely tortured there. After being released in 2007, she was very ill and weak. She became bedridden, and her whole body was swollen. She died on May 7th, 2009.

After being persecuted for close to nine months, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Chunhe was secretly tried and sentenced to three years in prison on April 8th, 2009. When she appeared in court, she was in critical condition and in a lot of pain. The authorities didn't care whether Ms. Zhang lived or died. Ms. Zhang appealed the unjust verdict and a new trial date was scheduled for May 15th, 2009.

My name is Liang Yan. My father is Liang Lijin and my mother is Yang Xiuqin. When I was a little girl, I witnessed the persecution that our whole family suffered for practising Falun Gong. This experience caused me a lot of mental anguish and scarred my heart. My school leaders repetitively asking me to break ties with my mother. So I stopped going to school. In March 2002, my mother was arrested. Later, she escaped and we lost contact with each other. In May 2002, police arrested my father and beat him.

My name is Ma Jinxiu. I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Guantao County, Hebei Province. In the beginning of 2005, my husband, our twelve-year-old son, and I were arrested by officers from the Chengguan Police Station in Guantao County. My husband and I were subjected to torture and our property was ransacked by the officers. I was sentenced to forced labour. After that, my son dropped out of school, and we suffered discord in the family. Our losses caused by Chen Peiyi (director of Chengguan Police Station) and other officers are not recoverable. I am seeking justice against Chen Peiyi.

Personnel from the 610 Office, along with officers from the Domestic Security Division and the police station, seized Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Guifen from Changping District in Beijing on April 15th, 2009. The captors took her under force to the Chaofeng'an Brainwashing Centre and unlawfully detained her there for nearly fifty days. Ms. Wang Guifen was cruelly tortured and died on June 2nd, 2009.

Mr. Wu Shanhai was an elderly practitioner. Because he persisted in practising Falun Gong, as well as explaining the facts about Falun Gong, he was incarcerated and tortured. On July 10th, 2007, Wu was exchanging experiences with a few practitioners in a park. He was followed by local police officers and once again arrested and taken to the police station on the grounds of "gathering to overthrow the government" and "colluding with overseas anti-China forces." Three days later, the police ordered his family members to fetch him. At that time, Wu Shanhai's body was extremely weak and he could not eat. He had been tortured until he was on the brink of death. One week later, he passed away.

Mr. Li Daiquan, 56 years old, from the Nanpiao District went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, and March 13th, 2000. In the evening on June 24th, 2001, he was arrested by the Shaguotun Township Police Station for writing "Falun Gong is good" and locked up in a detention centre. As a result, he was physically and mentally abused. After being released from the detention centre, he wandered around to avoid being arrested again. He was sent home in November 2003 after suffering a stroke. He passed away on March 20th, 2009.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Min was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2005. While imprisoned, he was regularly tortured in Ward 7 of Daqing Prison, and his health deteriorated dramatically, causing symptoms of a stroke. In April 2009 his family members, who were there visiting him, asked that he be released for medical treatment, but the request was denied by the prison officials. Mr. Li died on May 23rd.
