On January 9th, 2009, a group of police officers arrested disabled Falun Gong practitioner Cheng Jinjing, who is in his sixties. He was taken to the Zhoukou Detention Centre, where he was persecuted. Mr. Cheng recently had a relapse in his condition, and he is suffering severe pain in his legs. He has been unable to get up off the floor, and faces the risk of becoming paralysed. The situation is urgent. Gao Feng, team leader of the Domestic Security Division in the Shanan Police Department of Zhoukou City, refused to release Mr. Cheng. During the nine years of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) brutal persecution of Falun Gong, Mr. Chen has been arrested three times because he exposed the persecution of Falun Gong.

61-year-old Ms. Jiao Shuzhen was arrested from her home and secretly sentenced to four years in prison in December 2008. She was taken to the Hebei Women's Prison on January 4th, 2009. In late February, she began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Her current situation is unclear. The authorities refuse to release her, citing her insistence on her belief in Falun Gong. The only person now at Ms. Jiao's home is her nearly 70-year-old husband, who has been suffering from cancer. He is virtually unable to walk and needs her to take care of him.

Ms. Bai Lixia was diagnosed with breast cancer and couldn't take care of herself even after surgery. However, she recovered her health after she started practising Falun Gong. Ms. Bai twice went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution, and as a result, she was imprisoned in the Harbin Forced Labour Camp in December 1999. The guards forced her to sleep on the cold floor during the winter, stand in the snow for long periods of time, and stand against the heating pipes. She was also locked in a toilet, hung up in the air, and violently beaten. On February 28th, 2002, Ms. Bai died because of the torture. She was 47 years old.

On March 4th, 2009 a family member of Ms. He Yan went to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp to visit her. After asking about the welfare of Ms. He, it was discovered that Ms. He Yan had been brutally beaten by guard Lu Haicun on January 10th, 2009. Ms. He was suffering from symptoms of a heart attack. Two months after the abuse, she still felt some chest pain and was numb in the left shoulder. Once the family learned about the beating by Lu Haicun, they went to report the incident to Wang Jianzhong, the director of the labour camp administration office. Wang Jianzhong's showed no sympathy, did not file an investigation report and denied that the abuse ever took place. He exclaimed to Ms. He's family, "If you want to sue me, go ahead!"

On July 26th, 2008, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Cui Yuezhi and Mr. Wang Hongchao were arrested. On February 18th, 2009, Mr. Wang was brought to trial in the Guan County Court. Mr. Wang's family members had hired a lawyer and asked the lawyer to plead 'not-guilty.' Using current Chinese laws, the lawyer was able to prove that Mr. Wang was innocent. The defence had no response and had to wrap up the trial in a hurry. On March 4th, 2009, the court, with complete disregard for the law, sentenced both Mr. Wang and Ms. Cui to eight years of imprisonment.

The Chinese Communist officials in the Chaoyang District forced the court to hold an open hearing on Ms. Lin Lihua. On February 19th, 2009, the Wenyuhe Court in the Chaoyang District in Beijing conducted a hearing on Ms. Lin Lihua. However, her family was not allowed to enter the courtroom and were told that all seating was taken. In fact, there were plenty of empty seats. Five police officers were in attendance. Before the hearing, Lin Lihua had been detained for over seven months.

In June 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Mrs. Wang Junxia, the wife of Mr. Sun Hongchang was arrested by the Fushun police and tortured to death because she would not give up practising Falun Gong and cultivating Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. At that time, their son, Sun Feng, was just 12 years old. He got sick and died on August 25th, 2005. Mr. Sun Hongchang was tortured to disability by the Fushun City Police Department and the Qingyuan County Police Department. Currently, he is being detained in the Qingyuan County Detention Centre.

Guards tortured practitioners and forced them to write statements to denounce Falun Gong. Those who refused to write the statements were tortured at night. The perpetrators threatened them, saying, "You will be killed if you do not write the statements. We have a death quota." The victims are tortured non-stop without being allowed to sleep. Practitioner Mr. Li Hailong suffered so much that he could not walk and could not get himself to the dining room without two persons to support him. Two months later, he remains in this condition. Mr. Cui Dejun was crippled from torture, but the guards insisted that he was pretending and grabbed his hair and slammed his head against a wall. Later, he was subjected to the death bed torture.

In the Second Women's Section of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp Falun Gong practitioners are being mistreated in a new way, by being forced to take a so-called "100 per cent exam." For this exam they are ordered to acknowledge the mistreatment they have been subjected to, including mental humiliation. Because the practitioners have refused to endorse the mistreatment, the guards beat and torture them. On October 7th and 8th, 2008, guards tortured practitioners Ms. Wang Chunying, Ms. Qi Zhenhong, Ms. Zhong Shujian, and Ms. Zhang Qilin from 6 to 72 hours. As a result, Ms. Qi suffered a mental disorder, Ms. Wang could not straighten her hands, Ms. Zhang's arms were broken and she became crippled, and Ms. Zhong was subjected to the "stretching torture" for 48 hours.

On February 25th, 2009, Ms. Liang Yuzhen went to the countryside to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and was arrested. That same evening, police officers handcuffed Ms. Liang's hands behind her back, dragged her all the way to her home, and then thoroughly ransacked it. When the officers were about to leave, Ms. Liang's 89-year-old grandmother, who was home at the time, held onto Ms. Liang's arm and wouldn't let go. She pleaded with the officers, saying, "I need her to take care of me! Please let her stay!" The officers simply loosened the grandmother's hands and took Ms. Liang away.

To achieve its goal of "reforming¹" all detained practitioners, Zhejiang Provincial Forced Labour Bureau personnel worked together with the labour camp to develop a series of tactics to physically and mentally harm practitioners. For instance, they forced practitioners to sit in a chair with their limbs tied to it and wouldn't let them sleep or use the toilet. At the same time, they turned on a speaker to its highest volume and broadcast their propaganda information. If a practitioner dozed off he would be burned with a cigarette and force-fed hot chilli pepper juice. They also forced practitioners to write statements giving up their cultivation and kept whoever refused to write them tied to the chair for a long time.

Mr. Wu Zhaobin is a practitioner from Cang County, Hebei Province. He has been suffering from mental illness since his torture in the Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. He was arrested before the Beijing Olympics, and he is still in prison. The police have ignored the Wu family's requests for a psychological evaluation and denied their visitation requests. They have refused to inform the family of Mr. Wu's whereabouts. In August 1999, Mr. Wu was detained for a month after appealing in Beijing for the right to practise Falun Gong. In September, after appealing in Beijing s second time, Mr. Wu was detained for two additional months and then imprisoned for over a year. In the Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp, Mr. Wu was subjected to electric shocks and torture. As a result of endless brainwashing and torture, Mr. Wu developed a mental illness and was released.

On February 29th, 2009, 58-year-old Ms. Zhao Qiuying from Beijing was taken away from her own clothing booth by four policemen from the Dongsheng Police Station in the Haidian District. When the police arrived at the booth, they surrounded it, intending to take her away. Ms. Zhao did not cooperate with them, but they started a search and found two brochures that explained the facts about Falun Gong. Afterwards, they dragged her into a police vehicle. At around 4 p.m., the police vehicle arrived at Ms. Zhao's home. The police searched her home and took away a Falun Gong book, two brochures, and five or six CD's. That night, Ms. Zhao's family learned that she had been taken to the Qinghe Detention Centre.

In October 2000, in order to speak the truth about Falun Gong, I went to Beijing to appeal. At the Beijing Qianmen Police Station, I was brutally beaten, leaving my entire body green and purple with bruises. After five days of torture, I was taken to my hometown by police and imprisoned in the Acheng District Second Detention Centre for twenty-five days. At around 7:00 p.m. January 24th, 2008, I went to a friend's to lend her my hair dryer. As soon as I entered her home, I was attacked by four or five policemen who were lying in wait. I was pulled and dragged into a police car, and taken to the Yuquan Town Public Security Bureau. The police took away my hair dryer and said, "This is a criminal device. We can't give it back to you." I was detained in the Acheng Second Detention Centre for eight days and inhumanely tortured.

Nine years ago, when Falun Gong was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), I went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to appeal against the persecution. I was arrested and beaten, and then put into a detention centre. There I was persecuted severely, suffering many tortures. When we were taken to the detention centre, we were forced to stand along a wall all day long in the freezing cold. I was beaten severely by the guards for not telling them my name [Note: Because of the CCP's policy of implication, Falun Gong practitioners often do not reveal their name or address in order to protect family members, friends and co-workers from being harassed and persecuted by CCP officials]. The guard even used a belt to strangle my neck until the belt broke.

My husband, a Falun Gong practitioner, was sent to Daqing Prison in Heilongjiang Province in 2007. It has been more than two years now, and we have only seen each other three times during the first year. Later, Daqing Prison would not allow me to see him anymore under the excuse that he refused to wear the prisoner's uniform. I haven't seen my husband for more than a year now. On February 24th, 2009, I was told that there was news on the Internet about my husband being beaten by prison guards. My husband and three other inmates were beaten nine times in five days by three guards with policemen's batons. His arms, legs and hip were seriously injured. I was really worried.

Mr. Qi Wanchuan and Ms. Liu Bing'e, husband and wife, are practitioners in Kongjiazhuang, Wanquan County, Hebei Province. They were arrested at their supermarket by officers led by chief Li Fenglou from the Wanquan Police Department. Valuables from their home and the cash in the register, totalling more than 10,000 yuan, were stolen. The family was traumatized by the incident. Mr. Qi is currently detained in Wanquan County Jail. Ms. Liu is detained in Shisanli Jail in Zhangjiakou City. Ms. Liu is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and she is very weak.

The police from Dong County, Anhui Province persecuted 58-year-old practitioner Shi Changying, causing her to lose her eye sight in one eye. Recently she was arrested and incarcerated by the police again. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel saw that she was dying and quickly forced her son to bring money to bail her out. They said that if she died, it was none of their business. They claimed that her son should be responsible for her and forced him to sign a document for confirmation.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Xiulan, 69 years old, was arrested and detained in the Nanhai District Detention Centre in June 2008. She was inhumanly tortured, forced to sleep on the cement floor, shocked with an electric baton, and beaten, resulting in bruises all over her body. On January 6th, 2009, the Centre suddenly notified her family to pick her up from the police hospital. Ms. Ma died on March 16th, 2009.

Mr. Ma Yingxuan, nearly 70 years old, was arrested in 2002 because he practises Falun Gong. The police handcuffed him and covered his head with a black bag each time they brought him in for interrogation. In the police station, Mr. Ma was so badly tortured that there were all kinds of injuries all over him. Mr. Ma was sentenced to a three-and-a-half-year term. Later Mr. Ma was taken to the Taian jail and was imprisoned under heavy security, including being watched 24 hours a day by surveillance cameras, guards, and prison inmates who acted as informers.

In the summer of 2008, Mr. Wang Kun was arrested by the chief of the local police station. He has been detained ever since. His mother, being sick herself, tried to appeal for help, but to no avail. At his trial Mr. Wang's lawyer argued that he is innocent. The participants from the prosecutor's side knew that they did not have a case, lacking any legal basis and not having enough evidence, yet police prepared 2,000 copies of Falun Gong materials as false evidence to convict Mr. Wang. The family members have just received notice that Acheng Court would try Wang Kun again on March 9th, 2009.

On February 25th, 2009, Ms. Liang Yuzhen was arrested by police officers from Heshan City. She was reported to the police while she distributed Falun Gong informational materials in the countryside. At 9:00 p.m., her home was ransacked. The police took Ms. Liang, whose hands were handcuffed behind her back, to her home. Only her 89-year-old grandmother was there. The police didn't show any search warrant but searched her home anyway, leaving her apartment in a mess. They also confiscated what cash she had at home and took some of the informational materials, as well as Falun Gong books, her brother's computer, and other items. The police didn't have any legal documents for her arrest, to search the home, or for her detention.

On January 28th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Xiqing was persecuted to death while he was imprisoned in the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp. The case details were exposed at home and abroad. His family members submitted an appeal letter to the National People's Congress, Appeals Office, Police Department, Judicature Bureau, and Procuratorate in Chongqing City. In the relevant departments they addressed, there were many officials with a conscience, and people who expressed deep sympathy and were willing to offer help. However, some officials in high-level management positions ignored the immense amount of grief Mr. Jiang's family members suffered, and continually harassed them and threatened them for appealing the case.

Ms. Zhang Chunhe, a practitioner in her fifties was arrested at work seven months ago and is currently in serious condition in jail. On July 23rd, 2008, police arrested Ms. Zhang Chunhe and took her to the Chatou Brainwashing Centre in Guangzhou City. She was rejected by the centre on July 24th, after her physical exam showed that she had multiple tumours. Completely disregarding her health status, the police detained her in the Xiyuan Police Station, handcuffed and shackled her. Ms. Zhang was not allowed to eat, drink, or use the toilet.

Practitioner Ms. Zhou Daoqiong, a retired teacher, along with Mr. Zheng Bin, were jailed at the Qingbaijiang Detention Centre. Both lost consciousness after being tortured and were sent to the Qingbaijiang Hospital for treatment. But the more treatment they received, the worse their situation became. On February 3rd, 2009, someone reported Ms. Zhou Daoqiong while she was informing people about the true nature of Falun Gong. On October 23rd, 2008, police officers arrested Mr. Zheng Bin and ransacked his home.

The Hegang City government in Heilongjiang Province severely persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. By the end of 2008, about twenty Falun Gong practitioners had been persecuted to death, many were paralysed due to torture, over a dozen were dismissed from their jobs, and several became homeless due to the persecution. In order to prevent practitioners from going to other places, the local government suspended, detained, and even stopped the processing of their ID cards on a large scale. When some practitioners went to the local police station to apply for their personal ID cards, the police said, "We have received orders saying that we should not issue personal IDs unless we have approval from the 610 Office or the Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs or the leaders of the police station."

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Litian died on November 17th, 2008 in Jinzhou Prison in Liaoning Province. Inmates from Jinzhou Prison's No. 20 Section found a way to send out an appeal letter, exposing that Mr. Zhang was cruelly beaten to death by guards and inmates in the No. 20 Section. They request that the deaths of Mr. Zhang Litian and other practitioners are investigated and that the prison stop persecuting them.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zuo Lizhi of Yi County in Liaoning Province was given a secret trial on October 10th, 2008 by the Yi County Court. During the hearing Zuo Lizhi talked about how she gained physical and mental benefits from practising Falun Gong. The lawyer also defended her on the grounds that she was innocent. However, the court still sentenced her to three years of imprisonment. She appealed the sentence and was subsequently given a five-year sentence.

At the end of 1999, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhu Zuoxin was sent to a forced labour camp for one year because he refused to renounce Falun Gong. At the beginning of 2001, he was arrested again and sent to the Shiliping Forced Labour Camp for three years. Later on, his term was extended for another year. In the forced labour camp, he was inhumanly tortured. He had been hung up on a door frame for two months, during which he was not let down to use the toilet or sleep at night. Every day, the camp only gave him about 4 oz leftover rice to eat. He was tied on a "tiger bench" for several days. The guards forced fed him with cold water and dropped irritating oil into his eyes. Finally, he was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment after he had no pulse and no breath.

Mr. Yang Ming is 43 years old. After 10 months of detainment, the Police and Justice Department of Jiangyang District, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province started a secret trial. The detention period from the arrest to the sentencing was more than a year which exceeds the legal period. The Procuratorate of Jiangyang District charged him with the crime of being in an "evil cult." Jiangyang District Court did not uphold the law and dismiss the trumped up charges, but instead, secretly tried Yang Ming and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment.

Falun Gong practitioner Liu Hongchang was detained seven times. On February 9th, 2001, the police arrested him in Beijing. During his detention, he sustained fractured ribs from the police beatings. He was detained in a local detention centre, yet escaped. He led a homeless life for ninety-seven days, and was once again arrested. He was sentenced to five years in prison and beaten many times, resulting in internal injuries.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Niu Yanhong from Jilin City, Jilin Province, was arrested and secretly sentenced. Not long ago she was taken to the Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City, where she continues to be persecuted. Ms. Niu Yanhong is 33 years old, and her entire family depends on her wages to maintain a living. Her over 60-year-old mother is seeking justice for her daughter and appealing for people's attention.

Mr. Ran Long, 46, was sentenced to two years of forced labour for practising Falun Gong in 2002. The camp forced Mr. Ran to go through brainwashing for more than twenty days, which made his blood pressure really shoot up. The administrators were afraid he might die, so they released him. Later, Mr. Ran had to leave home to avoid being arrested. He was hired as a chef by a hotel. On February 23rd, 2009, the hotel called his wife, saying he had failed to come in to work and was last seen off work on the afternoon of February 21st. On February 26th, they received a call from the Yangxin County police that they had found a body by the roadside. The body was identified as Mr. Ran. His family saw a large hole in his head, and his nose, eyes, and ears were oozing blood.

Mr. Xu Dawei was a 34-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, was grossly abused and mistreated for eight years in four prisons. The last place was Dongling Prison in Shenyang City. He died on February 16th, 2009, less than two weeks after his release from this prison. On February 27th, Xu's family went to Dongling Prison to request information regarding his abuse. Officials tried everything to deny their involvement in Mr. Xu's death and three guards lied to the family.

Mr. Zhang Lianjun went to Tsinghua University to study in 1995. Since following Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he gained deeper spiritual insight. After the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong, he was tortured to paralysis by the Beijing City National Security Team, and has since been bedridden in the Inner Mongolia No. 4 Jail for almost five years. The jail refused to release him and claimed that they had orders from above.

On around November 20th, 2006, practitioner Mr. Sui Jingjiang was diagnosed with high blood pressure during an examination while he was serving a sentence in the Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City. The labour camp doctor forcibly injected him with a drug that he claimed would lower his blood pressure. At the end of December 2006, Mr. Sui was released ahead of schedule, but after he returned home, his mind was unclear, he was not able to walk steadily, and his tongue was stiff when he tried to talk. During the past two years, Mr. Sui Jingjiang's physical condition has worsened, and he often falls while walking.

Falun Gong practitioner Hu Keling described her treatment while she was in a mental hospital: "We were tied down on a bed day and night, with hands and feet tied to the bed frame. There was a rope that held the body down on the bed across the chest. One could not turn on the bed, and had no choice but to relieve oneself on the bed. I began a hunger strike against this inhumane treatment. They force-fed me and left the feeding tube in me which caused severe nausea. Five male patients pinned me down on the concrete floor, removed my trousers and gave me injections every few days. After one month, I could not see things clearly, my periods stopped, and I developed tremors of my upper and lower extremities. I felt foggy headed and extreme fearful."

The Longquanyi District Police Department had been looking for an excuse to arrest and persecute Mr. Li Changli. In December 2008, Mr. Li and his wife, Ms. Liu Lifen, were arrested and were sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour was detained in the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp and Ms. Liu was held in the Shimaping Women's Forced Labour Camp. On January 13th, 2009 police went to Mr. Li's home and asked his 5-year-old daughter a lot of personal, probing questions. The police later used the child's fingerprint "evidence" and her "testimonial" to sentence Mr. Li and his wife to forced labour without going to trial.

The Water and Environmental Division of the Chinese Geological Academy has been harassing and threatening retired researcher Ms. Liu Xiaoying and her family members for seven years. In April 2002, the local police accused her of going on the web to view banned sites and went to her home to arrest her. She was not at home at the time, but she has been forced to stay away from her home since then. Subsequently, Communist Party officials stopped her pension since May 2002 and declared that they would confiscate her house, stop all benefits, and withhold her husband's pension if she did not come back. They also went to her house to threaten her daughter, trying to get her to reveal the whereabouts of Ms. Liu. .

During the recent Beijing Olympic Games, Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, Liaoning Province transferred in more than ten policemen from other places. About 40 steadfast female practitioners were locked up together. The officers made them sit on small plastic, backless stools from morning to evening every day. They were ordered to recite 30 labour camp regulations and sing "school songs." If anyone did not recite or sing, she would be dragged outside to be tortured by being stretched or shocked with electric batons. In August 2008, practitioner Ms. Li Yurong did not recite as ordered. Officer Liu Yong shocked her with a baton in front of the others. Ms. Li cried out from the pain and fell down to the ground.

On August 1st, 2007, I went to Xinyi Police Station in Harbin City to give a letter to director Zhao Chengyin and police officer Wang Wei. The letter advised them to stop committing crimes against Falun Gong and attempted to awaken their conscience. Abruptly, seven to eight officers rushed in and arrested me. They pressed me down on the ground and handcuffed me behind my back, causing excruciating pain. They dragged me to a detention centre and later a forced labour camp where I was often beaten. They used every possible means to persecute me.

Ms. Yang Miao, 34, was taken to a forced labour camp by the Changan Police Department in July 2008 for one and a half years of forced labour. She is presently imprisoned at the Hebei Provincial First Labour Camp in Tangshan City. She has been tortured to the point of near death, and she suffers from a high blood pressure level of 220. The labour camp does not want to keep her and has told her family members to bail her out for medical treatment.

Mr. Deng Jiangang has been brutally persecuted many times because of his belief in Falun Gong. He is currently detained in Wumaping Prison in Leshan City. His wife, Ms. Jiang Xiantao, also a practitioner, is in a forced labour camp. Their young daughter had to leave school and stay at home, living a very difficult life. In a detention centre a poilce officer Xiao wanted to torture Mr. Deng to death. He tortured Mr. Deng using "Carrying a sword on the back" for more than two hours. The handcuffs bore into Mr. Deng's flesh, and they only released his wrists after many minutes. He was punched in the head and body. They stepped on his feet so hard that his toes turned black and purple. He was also tortured brutally in a forced labour camp and guards shocked him with electric batons in the head, body, legs, and feet.

Jilin Prison is one of the notorious places where Falun Gong practitioners are brutally persecuted. Liu Chengjun, Yang Guang, and other practitioners were persecuted to death there. In the strict prison section, the detainees are forced to sit on a narrow stool, from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., causing great pain to the buttocks. Because Liu Yuhe could not sit straight, a policeman shocked his head with electric batons while prisoners held his neck.

Ms. Xie Cha followed the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in all aspects of her daily life. She was considerate of others in all respects. Since the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Ms. Xie has been persistent in her belief. Therefore, she was treated as a key persecution target by the CCP. She was harassed, threatened, monitored and detained by Party agents. Before the Olympic Games, the town government dispatched its staff members to harass Xie Cha repeatedly, and tried to force her to write an statement to give up Falun Gong. Under huge pressure, she was utterly exhausted both physically and mentally. Her health worsened rapidly. Ms. Xie passed away on January 24th, 2009, only in her forties.

On December 23rd, 2008, I went to Falun Gong practitioner Yuan Yuqin's home. At around 3 p.m., someone knocked on the door. Yuqin opened the door and five or six policemen came in. Some of them started to ransack the room. Yuqin stopped them. A policeman asked my name and where I lived. I did not answer. They arrested us and took us to a police station. They sent us to a hospital for an examination. Two policemen, two policewomen, and the doctor dragged me to the bed in the examination room. In order to take off my trousers, they pulled my down jacket upward, so that my face was covered by the jacket. I was almost choked. They took us back to the police station later. Yuan Yuqin and I sat on a backless stool for a whole night.

Mr. Gu Qinggen and Ms. Gao Yunting, his wife, were arrested by police after visiting relatives in March 2002. Police station chief Huo Sanshuan asked them who they had visited. Ms. Gao said, "Does a person have no freedom to visit relatives? I am not going to tell you." Huo Sanshuan, upset she dared to talk back, slapped her face violently. Ms. Gao said, "I am not going to tell you, even if you beat me." When Huo Sanshuan asked Mr. Gu, he also refused to answer. Huo Sanshuan threw Gu Qinggen to the ground, ordering, "Kneel, if you do not want to tell me." Later Ms. Gao was sent to a brainwashing centre and Mr. Gu Qinggen was detained in Wangpo Police Station even though he had not yet begun Falun Gong practice at that time.

On February 24th, 2009, officers from the Niuzhuang Town Police Station in Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, took Mr. Tian Baocheng and Ms. Cui Yajing away from their homes. The excuse was that they had attended a gathering held by a Falun Gong practitioner. Mr. Tian Baocheng's younger brother, Mr. Tian Baodong, has been detained in forced labour camps twice because he practises Falun Gong. As a result of torture, he cannot walk or take care of himself. Previously, Ms. Cui Yajing had been sentenced to three years in prison because she distributed flyers about Falun Gong.

On March 4th, 2009, police went to the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Huixiang and searched her house. In 2001 Ms. Zheng left her home to avoid persecution and was forced to move from place to place. It has been eight years since she became homeless. Police then took her husband Cai Peijun and her son Cai Yiming to the Xiguan Police Station. In the afternoon of March 5th, Cai Peijun was released but Cai Yiming was sent to a detention centre and was severely mistreated there.

Using the pretext of "safety concerns" for the 24th Winter Sports Games, Heilongjiang Province Police Bureau agents began a new wave of persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Many were arrested. Just in Jiamusi City alone, more than ten practitioners were arrested within 10 days. On February 12th, Ms. Wang Guizhen was taken away from her home but was permitted to return. She was in a coma in a forced labour camp last October. Less than three months later she was arrested again. Officials from the Jiaxi Police Station came to her door, pretending to return money they had extorted from her before. As soon as she opened the door, they arrested her. It is said that her pituitary tumour symptoms returned, and she has been in hospital.
