| Family Member of Detained Practitioners Arrested [31.03.2008] |
On February 25th, 2008, twelve Falun Gong practitioners from Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province were arrested. Some of the practitioners have been holding a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Mr. Chen Baofeng was persecuted to death in only eight days. Recently, practitioners holding the hunger strike have displayed ailing symptoms to different degrees and their situation has become desperate. Their family members are extremely concerned and worried about their condition. On March 19th, 2008, Ms. Jing's sister went to the Police Department to request the release of her practitioner sister. Ms. Jing's sister was taken into custody. She has been detained in the Shijiahetao Detention Centre. |

| The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners inside Jinzhou Prison [30.03.2008] |
Jinzhou Prison officials have walked in the bloody footprints of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) by promising the guards 1,000 yuan each for "reforming" one Falun Gong practitioner. Some guards have thus resorted to all kinds of brutalities in an attempt to make the practitioners give up their belief. They also instructed certain inmates to assist in the abuse by using sentence reduction as bait. Practitioners Cui Zhilin and Xin Minduo died as a result of barbaric torture. The gross abuses at Jinzhou Prison can be divided into four categories: deprivation of basic rights; physical torture; hard labour, and fabrications. |

| Falun Gong Practitioners Brutally Tortured by Guards in Guangyuan Prison of Sichuan Province [30.03.2008] |
Guards at Guangyuan Prison of Sichuan Province continue to torture Falun Gong practitioners cruelly. They are especially cruel towards practitioners who refuse to renounce their belief. During the sessions of forced "reform" of practitioners guards beat several practitioners many times. They even beat Wei Yi who was 60 years old. Guard Zhan was involved twice in the beating and torture of practitioner Zeng Yuxian. He boiled water and poured the hot water over Zeng's head. He also burned Zeng Yuxian's face with a cigarette lighter. The burn marks can still be seen on his face. |

| The Criminal Behaviour of Those in Charge at Wangcun Forced Labour Camp [30.03.2008] |
Just before the 2006 Chinese New Year practitioner Xu Ruliang wrote a disclaimer to declare that his statement obtained by forced-brainwashing was null and void. Guards hung Mr. Xu up by handcuffs for 13 days during the Chinese New Year. In October 2006, Mr. Xu once again voided his statement that had been obtained by force. Zheng Wanxin, Sun Fengjun, and other guards tortured him for a whole day with electric shock batons. His feet and back were covered with red and black scars. It was so painful that he couldn't take a shower for a month. |

| Six Practitioners from Jiangxi Province Detained for Half a Year [30.03.2008] |
From October 8th, 2007, to November 14th, 2007, six practitioners, Mr. Wang Xing, Mr. Ai Guoxiang, Ms. Huang Lanqin, Ms. Peng Ying, Mr. Huang Hongqiang, and Ms. Cao Weihong, were arrested by police officers of the State Security Division. Some of them have become critically ill. The six practitioners' residencies were all searched, and their property was confiscated. They were transferred to Nanchang City or Longfu Mountain to be interrogated. The thugs afflicted brutal tortures on them, with an attempt to compel them to acknowledge their so-called "counter-revolutionary" crime. |

| Practitioner Mr. Zhang Xiaodong from Gansu Province Beaten to Death in 2003 [29.03.2008] |
On October 24th, 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Xiaodong, 32, was beaten to death by guards at the Xiguoyuan Detention Centre. At 5:00 p.m. that day, they informed his family. When his family members arrived at the detention centre, they found that the guards had tampered with evidence at the scene in order to conceal their crime. Mr. Zhang's parents, in their 70s, grieved deeply over the loss of their son. After Mr. Zhang's tragic death, his family brought a lawsuit against the detention centre through the Lanzhou District Attorney's Office. But the centre responded with defiance and brazenly harassed Mr. Zhang's family.

| Family Hires Lawyer to Investigate the Torture Leading to their Loved One's Death - Prison Officials Lie and Coerce Inmates to Help Hide the Truth [29.03.2008] |
Two years after Mr. Yang Xiaojie died as a direct result of the torture meted out to him in a Chinese prison, his family hired a lawyer to seek justice. When the lawyer went to the Hebei Province Fourth Prison to investigate, Yue Yuhai, the chief of the Prison Political Section, gave false and misleading statements. He lied. He refused to admit to that Mr. Yang was tortured, and covered up the fact that Mr. Yang was ill and that his family was not allowed to visit him for over one year. Yue Yuhai forced inmates Fan Jiangshan and others who had monitored Mr. Yang to lie to the lawyer, telling him that Mr. Yang had been very well treated in prison. |

| Two 68 Year-Old Women Imprisoned for Three Years in Yueyang City, Hunan Province [29.03.2008] |
Sixty-eight-year-old Falun Gong practitioners Liu Bilian and Cai Fengjiao are residents of Yueyang City, Hunan Province. In March 2004, they were both arrested and detained in the Huarong Detention Centre for four months. They were both sentenced to Changsha City Women's Prison. For three years--more than one thousand days and nights--Ms. Liu was imprisoned just because she told people the facts about Falun Gong. Upon her release, she was 71 years old. An old lady was imprisoned in the Changsha City Women's Prison and subjected to all kinds of torture simply because she is a Falun Gong practitioner. Think about it. Why do practitioners endure immense suffering? They do so because they hope that people will learn the truth that Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance is good so that they will all have a bright future. |

| Ms. Ding Fengge Tortured in Puyang City, Henan Province, No Further Details Available [29.03.2008] |
On December 18th, 2007, Ms. Ding Fengge was arrested while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong and detained at the Beihuan Detention Centre. In order to receive a reward, the police tortured her to obtain information about the source of the leaflets. She was tortured with an electric baton and her fingers were pinched with a pair of pliers. She had steadfast faith in Falun Gong and did not say anything. She was sentenced to two years of forced labour. |

| Elderly Mr. Ma Fusheng Dies as a Result of Persecution in Jilin Province [28.03.2008] |
Mr. Ma Fusheng, 68, was a professor at the Changchun City Geology Institute in Jilin Province. Mr. Ma went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000. For this he was arrested and detained in a detention centre and a mental hospital. He was inhumanly tortured, and held a hunger strike to protest the persecution for nine days before he was released. The local police considered him a key person and constantly harassed him at home. In March 2003, he was arrested again and sentenced to one year of forced labour. Mr. Ma became very weak after one year of forced labour, and had difficulty moving. He died on February 17th, 2008. |

My name is Jing Suo. I am a Falun Gong practitioner, and I was arrested for practising Falun Gong and sentenced to four years in prison in 2004. On June 23rd, 2006, a guard drank a lot of alcohol and beat me for no reason. I held a hunger strike to protest the inhuman treatment, but the captors force-fed and tortured me. They inserted a rubber tube into my stomach through my nose, and used lots of napkins trying to stem the blood flow from my nose. The tube damaged my nose, throat, oesophagus and stomach. They put me on a bed, handcuffed me to the corners of the headboard and tied my feet to the corners of the foot-board, and during the heat of summer, they covered me with blankets. They incited the inmates to force-feed me concentrated salt water and slap my face to keep me from closing my eyes. |

| The Inside Story of Crimes at the Qiqihar No. 1 Detention Centre [28.03.2008] |
The Qiqihar No. 1 Detention Centre forces their detainees to take part in handicraft manufacturing to make huge profits. They call it by a good name, "doing exercises." But, it is actually intense work to meet aggressive quotas. The inmates often work overtime, and are seriously overloaded. They make toothpicks for pricking fruit that are exported to Korea. Actually, the toothpicks are produced in such poor sanitary conditions that the bacteria seriously violates the safety standards. According to regulations, the detainees should not take part in this type of labour. However, the detention centre and businessmen see the prisoners as cheap labour and they collude with the administration department to assign tasks to the prisoners to make profits for the detention centre and themselves. |

| Facts about the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Jingshan County, Hubei Province [28.03.2008] |
Mr. Zhou Qing, 30 years old, was a teacher. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, he has been arrested on many occasions. In February 2003, the school, along with local 610 Office personnel, tried to take him away to a brainwashing centre again. Mr. Zhou was forced to leave home. That same year he was fired from the school. In 2004 he was arrested and tortured at the local detention centre until all four of his limbs were paralysed and he could not even speak. Later, he was taken to the brainwashing centre and injected with unknown drugs that made him mentally disoriented. He also lost almost all his hair and could not see to his basic needs. Only when his life was hanging by a thread was he allowed to be taken home by his family. Before he was able to fully recover, Mr. Zhou was once again taken into custody and sentenced to four years of imprisonment in July 2005. |

| Ms. Shi Xiuzhen and Other Practitioners Arrested to Meet "Olympics Quota" in Jilin Province [27.03.2008] |
On March 18th, 2008, officer Bai Mingku (male) from the Legal Office of the Jiaohe City Police Department and officers from the Xinzhan Town Police Station broke into Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shi Xiuzhen's home located in Changjia Village, Jiaohe City. The police violently beat her, then arrested her and ransacked her home. At 8:00 p.m. on March 19th, the police ransacked Ms. Shi's home again and broke a lock to open a storage room. Her 78-year-old mother-in-law was also threatened by the police. It is said that these arrests and ransacking of homes is to meet the "Olympics Quota." The police from Jiaohe City 610 Office and Police Department are to arrest at least four Falun Gong practitioners to fulfill their "assigned task." |

| Mr. Bai Shaohua Arrested after the Death of His Practitioner Brother [27.03.2008] |
On February 20th, 2008, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Bai Shaohua was arrested after police stopped to inspect his car. He was sent to Beijing Huairou District Detention Centre. His older brother Bai Xiaojun was repeatedly imprisoned at Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp, Changchun City, where he was so brutally abused that he could not care for himself and lost consciousness. He died in July 2003.

In 2002, I hung a banner saying "Falun Gong is good" in town and police arrested me. In order to protect other practitioners I refused to give my name and address. Police removed my trousers and brutally beat me with a one-inch-wide plastic tube all over my buttock. Two or three guards pulled my two arms behind my back and tried to handcuff my hands behind my back. Finally they held me down on the ground and someone put his knee on the back of my head. My hands were cuffed behind me. They pulled the handcuffs up, which was extremely painful. Then they suddenly let the handcuff go loose, which made them tighter. They did this repeatedly, which made the handcuffs cut into my flesh and, it seemed like, into the bone. I was in extreme pain and cold sweat ran down my face. |

Falun Gong practitioner Du Ting, who had been sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. At one time he was on the verge of death and was taken to the prison's general hospital for emergency treatment. In addition, practitioner Lu Jinlong's left arm was broken after prison guards ordered prisoners to beat him. |

Recently, each work unit in Beijing has been asked to pass down a notice requiring them to search for "key persons" who might be disruptive, in to order to maintain "social stability" leading up to the Olympics. This notice included Falun Gong practitioners--people who follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, along with criminals, terrorists and mental patients. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is attempting to mislead people, preventing them from distinguishing good from bad. The CCP is responsible for inciting hatred toward Falun Gong. |

| Intensified Persecution in Qitaihe City: In Order to Identify Falun Gong Practitioners, Policemen Forced Passengers to Kick a Stranger [26.03.2008] |
Between Qitaihe City and Baoqing County in Heilongjiang Province, there is a tollbooth, and there are police stationed there. In order to identify practitioners, the policemen laid a person on the ground and covered his face. Then they forced the passengers from the buses to kick the person on the ground and to curse Falun Gong and its founder. If people refused to do so, they would be assumed to be practitioners (as they do not hit or curse people) and would be arrested. Every passenger went through strict inspection, particularly those who covered their face with scarf. |

| Mr. Wu Limin, His Wife, and Sister-In-Law from Changsha City, Sent to Forced Labour Camps [26.03.2008] |
On the afternoon of November 24th, 2007, a student who didn't know the truth about Falun Gong reported three practitioners to the police while they were talking to people on a bus about the persecution. They were arrested and taken to the Wangcheng County Police Department with another practitioner. Here, the four of them were interrogated then detained for one night. The heads and faces of Ms. Zhang Lihui and Ms. Liu Meihsuang were swollen from being beaten during the interrogation. A handful of Ms. Liu Meishuang's hair had been ripped out. Mr. Wu Limin was also badly beaten. The next day, four people were sent to Wangcheng County Detention Centre and then transferred to Xinkanpu Forced Labour Camp. |

| Mr. Li Shimin Suffers a Torture-Induced Nervous Breakdown [26.03.2008] |
Mr. Li Shimin, in his 30s, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, Police in Beijing arrested and beat him. At a detention centre a doctor injected him with unknown substances. The local police ransacked his home and arrested his wife, leaving his two young children home alone. Officers extorted 2,300 yuan from his father before releasing his wife. Li Shimin was sentenced to 18 months of forced labour and was taken to the Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp where he was brutally tortured. He was locked in solitary confinement, had to endure the Tiger Bench and was subjected torture with electric shock batons, savage beatings, the "Big Hang-up" and sleep deprivation as well as injections with unknown substances. He was released after 16 months of detention but then suffered a nervous breakdown as a result of unspeakable and long-term cruelties. |

| Older Practitioner Mr. Chong Cunjie from Hebei Province Dies as a Result of Persecution [25.03.2008] |
Mr. Chong Cunjie, 63 years old, was an employee of the Hebei Province Forced Labour Camp. In 1999, the Hengshui City Legal Bureau arrested him for practising Falun Gong. All of the Labour Camp employees pleaded that Mr. Chong be released, but he was sentenced to two years in prison. On February 13th, 2002, he escaped arrest by climbing down a pipe from the fourth floor of his home building. However, he was arrested on March 16th, 2002. He was sentenced to five years in prison, and released on March 16th, 2007. Mr. Chong was fired from his job. He had an 89-year-old mother and young grandson to care for. Mr. Chong's health was severely damaged from being imprisoned for seven years. He died of a heart attack in hospital on February 5th, 2008. |

| Practitioner Zhang Chun from Wuhan City Dies in Custody [25.03.2008] |
Practitioner Zhang Chun (gender unknown) lived in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Zhang Chun was arrested while posting up information about the persecution on the night of March 14th, 2008. Several days later, the Wuhan City Seventh Hospital staff suddenly notified the family that the practitioner died of a "stroke," and insisted on immediately cremating the body. |

| Mr. Zhou Qingyu Died in Detention [25.03.2008] |
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhou Qingyu, 67, was a retired worker from Dajiang Factory in Chongqing City. He was arrested in early 2007, and sentenced to forced labour. He had been detained at the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City. During a training session in July 2007, prisoner Li Liang hit Mr. Zhou in the head with his palm, which caused head pain. Mr. Zhou suffered from a stroke on the night of December 29th, 2007, and died. |

| Practitioner Fu Guichun Is Disabled after Forced Abortion, Imprisonment and Torture [25.03.2008] |
In May 2002, because she is a Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Fu Guichun was arrested by police and 610 Office officials. They detained her at the Wuyiling Forestry Detention Centre. At that time, even though she was several months pregnant, she was severely tortured by police, who tried to force her to denounce Falun Gong. Chinese Communist officials performed a forced abortion on Ms. Fu using despicable means, and she was sentenced on the basis of fabricated crimes to an eight-year prison term in Heilongjiang Women's Prison. Because of severe persecution, Ms. Fu Guichun developed a serious case of diabetes, rendering her unable to care for herself. Nevertheless, the prison is still detaining her and subjecting her to ongoing persecution. |

Ms. Jia Yan lived in Mulan County, Heilongjiang Province. On December 6th, 2007, Ms. Jia Yan was arrested along with three other practitioners by police. The four practitioners were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in a village at the time of their arrest. They were detained in Tieli City Detention Centre (under the Forestry Police Department). Ms. Jia' family received a call three months later that Ms. Jia Yan had died. |

| Wang Guiming Tortured to Death, His Wife, Threatened after Appealing on His Behalf, Is Afraid to Go Home [24.03.2008] |
Mr. Wang Guiming was arrested by police and sent to the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City on February 27th, 2008. On February 29th, at the age of 38, he died as a result of torture in the labour camp. His wife, Han Fengxia, appealed on behalf of her husband. As a result Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities from the police station and the street and community administration offices have threatened her many times. Right now she is too frightened to go home. |

| Ms. Zhou Huimin Dies in Police Custody in Sichuan Province [24.03.2008] |
In September 2007, police arrested Ms. Zhou Huimin and ransacked her home. She was then taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. Later she was detained at the Chengdu City Detention Centre. On February 1st, 2008, the Domestic Security Division of Wuhou District Police Department issued an "arrest warrant" for Ms. Zhou, although she had already been in custody for five months. She went on hunger strike to protest the persecution. On February 5th, guards took her to hospital. On March 10th, a friend of Ms. Zhou heard a Domestic Security Agent say that Ms. Zhou was dying. State Security agents in Sichuan Province Police Department ordered that she not be released. The police replied, "Let her die where she is." Ms. Zhou died at 5:30 a.m. on March 13th, 2008. |

| Mr. Zhang Zhijun Tortured to Death in Xi'an City Prison, Shaanxi Province [25.03.2008] |
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Zhijun had been arrested and incarcerated because he practised Falun Gong. On February 23rd, 2008, his family received a call that Mr. Zhang had died, and they rushed to the Xi'an City Prison in Shaanxi Province. The prison administration refused to let the family see Mr. Zhang's body. Finally, under the family's persistent demands, they were allowed to see Zhang Zhijun's body. His face was so bloated that it was very difficult to look at. There were obvious purple and blue rope marks on his neck. His family demanded legal representation, but lawyers present said that the higher officials had already ordered legal counsel. No one dared to accept this case. The police cremated the body on February 24th, 2008. |

| Practitioners from Beijing Tortured in the Inner Mongolia Women's Forced Labour Camp [21.03.2008] |
Some practitioners were tortured so severely that their menstruation would not stop. Guard Wu Jing (female) incited the criminals to poke a bundle of rough chopsticks into the mouth of practitioner Ms. Yu Haiyan. Ms. Yu's face and mouth were badly bruised, covered with blood, and appeared to be purple. Her swollen lips curled upwards. The guards continued to lock her in the storage room, hang her up in the air by handcuffs, and order the drug-addicts to pummel her. She was put down and then hung up again, causing her to faint many times. This kind of torture would be carried out once every few days and has become a routine. |

| Older Practitioner Mr. Xiao Feng and His Wife Unjustly Arrested [21.03.2008] |
On January 21st, 2008 at around 6:00 a.m., seventy-year-old retired senior engineer Xiao Feng, a practitioner who lived in a village inside Shenzhen City, was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in his area when two local police and public security agents caught him. They tried to force him to lead the way to other practitioners' homes in order to confiscate a large number of fliers. He refused, so they arrested Xiao Feng's wife, Qian Huarui (60 years old) in their home, and took both of them to the village police station. On the same night at around 8:00 p.m., the two were transferred to a detention centre and have been locked up there since. |

| Several Practitioners Arrested Recently in Baoding, Hebei Province [21.03.2008] |
Ms. Liu Lifang, female, 44 years old, works at the China Bank near Chaoyang Road. On the evening of March 11th, 2008, she went home after work. Four or five policemen from the National Security Team searched her home and took her away. The police confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal property. Presumably she is detained by the National Security Team, although there is no real way of finding out. Her thirteen year-old daughter was left alone at home with no one to take care of her. |

| Mr. Zhai Mouchen from Zibo City, Shandong Province, Is Being Subjected to Relentless, Long-Term Persecution [21.03.2008] |
On January 28th, 2008, Mr. Zhai Mouchen, a Falun Gong practitioner, was taken into custody from his workplace by officers of the State Security Division. Afterwards, his home was searched without a warrant. Later, he was taken to the Zibo City Detention Centre and brutally tortured. Mr. Zhai was sentenced to one year of forced labour and taken to the notorious Shandong Province Forced Labour Camp. In 2000, Mr. Zhai was sentenced to three years of forced labour. In Zibo Forced Labour Camp, his legs developed a deep ulceration due to electric shock injuries that didn't heal for a long time. |

| Five Older Falun Gong Practitioners from Sichuan, Inner Mongolia, Hunan, Heilongjiang and Henan Provinces Died Due to Persecution [21.03.2008] |
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cheng Fagui, who was around 53 years old, was arrested on December 11th, 2006 and sent to a forced labour camp for one year. She endured innumerable sufferings from the brutal torture. She was also force-fed with unknown drugs. Ms. Cheng was finally released on November 12th, 2007, but she died soon after in 2008. Ms. Wang Yulan was around 58 years of age. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Wang was harassed, threatened, arrested, confined and forced to attend a brainwashing session. She was brutally persecuted and placed under surveillance by the local authorities. Wang Yulan was devastated by the brutal torture and persecution. Because of the pressure, she developed headaches, vomiting, dizziness and heart problems. She left the world on January 10th, 2008. |

| Practitioner Ms. Zhou Huimin Tortured To Brink of Death [21.03.2008] |
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Huimin was arrested on the evening of September 26th, 2007. On February 1st, 2008, police took her to the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province. Ms. Zhou Huimin has been on hunger strike to protest her arrest and the persecution of Falun Gong. She was taken to Qingyang District Hospital in Chengdu City on February 5th, and she is reportedly now in a coma. She cannot speak and her life is in danger. Local Party authorities have told her family to prepare for her death. |

| Practitioners Mr. Wang Denqiao and Ms. Qing Yufen from Xinren County, Guizhou Province Held in Detention [21.03.2008] |
Practitioner Ms. Qing Yufen was arrested by the National Security Team on December 26th, 2007, and has been held in the county jail ever since. Her family was asked to sign the arrest notice, but it was learned that the persecutors had insufficient evidence when the District Lawyer's Office approved the arrest warrant. Ms. Qing was secretly moved to a brainwashing centre in Guiyang City, which is a base where practitioners are persecuted. The authorities have not let Ms. Qing's family members visit her since her arrest. According to informed sources, Ms. Qing suffered very serious persecution because she would not cooperate with the unreasonable demands of the authorities. |

| Daqing Police Arrest Several Practitioners [21.03.2008] |
Before and after the Chinese New Year in 2008, police from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province worked with local thugs to harass and persecute Falun Gong practitioners. On March 4th, police from the Daqing City Police Department arrested several practitioners. At about 9:00 p.m. on March 4th, Daqing police took Ms. Jiang into custody when she was taking care of her grandson at home. Her home was also searched. Leaflets exposing the persecution, CDs and Falun Gong books were packed into four or five big plastic bags and taken away. A copier and about 10,000 yuan in cash were also taken away. |

When practitioners refused to wear the camp uniforms, they were beaten, cursed at, kicked, and hung up by handcuffs during the day. Their hands were handcuffed to the headboards at night, which meant that they couldn't turn over or move freely. After only a month in Masanjia they became very weak from being tortured. From April through May, practitioner Ms. Yuan Shuzhe was hung up for the entire two months, which caused compression of her lower spine. This can lead to paralysis. |

Shijiazhuang Women's Prison in Hebei Province detains about 80 to 90 Falun Gong practitioners. The oldest is 70 years old. The longest term is 14 years. Falun Gong practitioners Miss Wang Bo and her mother, Liu Shuqin, are detained and persecuted in the Shijiazhuang Women's Prison after they were sentenced. The long-term excessive work causes more than half the detainees to develop diseases such as tuberculosis. The Falun Gong practitioners are forced to work overtime. Every night they cannot go to sleep until 11 PM or 12 AM. Every job has a quota. If they cannot finish the quota, if they talk when lining-up, or if the work quality is not good enough, they are punished. |

Ms. Lv Huiwen, 57 years old, was transferred from Wanjia Forced Labour Camp to Qianjin Women's Forced Labour Camp, in May 2007, where she was forced to do hard labour from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., seven days a week for a long time.. She was beaten, hung up while handcuffed, and personally insulted by the camp guards. As a result, she suffered heart disease, blurry vision, and became very weak. Just before her daughter came to visit her, Division Head Chen Lihua had threatened Lv Huiwen, saying, "Tomorrow, if you tell your daughter what happened here, we will use all the regulations at hand to punish you later." In order to avoid any further persecution, Lv Huiwen chose not to say anything to her daughter. |

| Zhongshan District Secretly Tries Ms. Ding Zhenfang in a Closed Court [21.03.2008] |
On August 16th, 2007, Ms. Ding Zhengfang from Dalian City, Liaoning Province was taken into custody at her mother's home by police officers. Ms. Ding has since been detained at the Yaojia Detention Centre. About two weeks ago, the Zhongshan District Court secretly tried her in a closed court. During her detention, she was put into handcuffs and shackles, which were nailed to a bed. To protest the persecution, she held a hunger strike. Consequently, she was brutally beaten and force-fed by the guards. Because of the beatings, her health severely deteriorated. |

Harbin City Police Department officials in Heilongjiang Province held a meeting in mid-March in which they conveyed instructions from upper-level regime entities. Police department officials have emphasized the listing of practitioners as "enemies" prior to the Olympic Games and declared them as the "first targets" for persecution. Officials from the police department headquarters have organized neighbourhood committees and local police stations to establish plain clothes teams to search for and arrest the so-called main targets. Real crimes such as drug-peddling and prostitution are being ignored in order to persecute Falun Gong. The authorities have also lied and stated that foreign countries have provided funding for Falun Gong practitioners. |

| Daqing City Police Department Officials Plot to Arrest One Hundred Falun Gong Practitioners To Fulfil Pre-Olympics Quota [20.03.2008] |
According to a reliable source, Heilongjiang Province Public Security Bureau officials have assigned local regions' administrative offices quotas regarding the number of Falun Gong practitioners each region must arrest. The local regions are required to fulfil their quotas before the Olympic Games. Targeted individuals include those whose names have been mentioned on the Internet before or who are "currently active." Daqing City was initially assigned a quota of 200 hundred Falun Gong practitioners to arrest. Daqing City leaders argued, "This is too many. Many good people will have to be arrested to reach the quota." |

There are two sisters, aged 63 and 57, from Suizhou City, Hubei Province. Both of them are Falun Gong practitioners. During the past nine years of persecution, the two sisters have been fined, imprisoned, beaten, and force-fed in detention many times. They were frequently forced to move and robbed by the police, and their home was frequently ransacked. The people who witnessed and knew of their persecution were chilled: Why is it so difficult for someone to be a good person? Why is someone who retains her belief tortured like this? |

On August 1st, 2007, police from the Lingyuan City Department, arrested 42 Falun Dafa practitioners in Beilu Towship, Lingyuan City. Ms. Hu Yanrong died during the process of being arrested. Ms. Li Cuizhi was tortured so badly she developed a mental disorder. Nine of these practitioners were sentenced. Five practitioners were taken to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. Among these practitioners, a great amount of money was extorted from twenty four of them and their families. |

Mr. Zhang Zhijun, a practitioner from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, died under mysterious circumstances in Xi'an Prison in Shanxi Province, on February 23rd, 2008. Authorities notified his wife by telephone, but when she arrived at the prison, officials tried to block her from seeing Mr. Zhang's body. Only when she threatened to kill herself on the spot if they didn't obey her demands, was she allowed to see the body. Mr. Zhang's face was swollen. Strangulation marks were visible around his blackened neck. Mr. Zhang's wife demanded an autopsy and went to a law office, but the lawyers told her: "The government has told us [not to accept Falun Gong related cases]. We don't dare to take your case." Prison authorities cremated Mr. Zhang's body the next day. |

| Mr. Sun Guanzhou Dies after only Seven Days in Custody in Henan Province [19.03.2008] |
Mr. Sun Guanzhou, 62 and a Falun Gong practitioner, lived in Yuzhou City, Henan Province. On March 3rd, 2008, three domestic security agents and three other agents ransacked his home, claiming they were checking for computer viruses. They instead arrested him and took him to the city detention centre. Only seven days later he was dead. On March 9th Mr. Sun's wife received a phone call to go to the hospital. When she arrived, she saw Mr. Sun's cold body. She was distraught! Agents tried to keep her from the body and tried to force her to sign the papers to have his body cremated.

| Mr. Yu Zhou Tortured to Death, His Wife Detained [19.03.2008] |
Mr. Yu Zhou and his wife, Xu Na, both practitioners, lived in Beijing. On January 26th, 2008, police blocked their vehicle on their way home, arrested them, and took them directly to the Tongzhou District Detention Centre. Eleven days later, on February 6th, their family received notice to come quickly to visit Mr. Yu in the Qinghe Emergency Centre. When his family got there, Mr. Yu was already dead, and his body was covered with a white sheet. A breathing machine mask was still on his face, but his legs were ice cold. The doctor told his family that he died from diabetes after being on a hunger strike. But his family said he had been very healthy and didn't have diabetes. The police requested a quick cremation of his body, but his family refused and asked to have an autopsy done. Their request was denied. |

| Ms. Gu Jianmin Dies after Thirteen Days in Custody in Shanghai [19.03.2008] |
Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Gu Jianmin, 53, lived in Shanghai. She was sent to a forced labour camp for one year in June 2006 for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. On March 1st, 2008, she was again arrested by police officers and they tortured her until she died on March 13th, 2008. On March 13th, 2008, an agent of the Pudong New District 610 Office called Ms. Gu's husband, saying that she was not well, and that he should come and process a medical parole. When he found Ms. Gu in the Gastric lavage room, her eyes were protruding, pupils enlarged, and she was bleeding from the mouth, but no one was taking care of her. Her husband knelt down in front of the doctors and begged them to save his wife. The doctor conducted a rather quick attempt at a rescue, then he declared that she was dead. |

| Older Practitioner Ms. Xu Huibi Dies after Being Tortured and Overworked in a Chongqing City Prison [18.03.2008] |
63-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Huibi, was arrested by police at home. Because she did not give them any information or renounce Falun Gong, they detained her in a detention centre and was tortured with brutal force-feeding. The police sentenced her to four years in prison and took her to the Chongqing City Yongchuan Women's Prison. In prison, Xu Huibi was assigned to forced labour in the plant that has toxic gases. It was difficult to breathe, and she was forced to finish a certain amount of work each day. Ms. Xu was brutally tortured until she was very weak, and her feet were in extreme pain, causing her to be unable to walk. On August 31st, 2007, the prison administration finally ordered her family to come and pick her up. She died on March 7th, 2008. |
