| Ten Deaths from Torture Confirmed in February 2008 [18.03.2008] |
Yi Fuquan suffered many prison terms, detainments and tortures after the start of the persecution of Falun Gong and was sentenced to one year of forced labour because he went to Beijing to appeal. On August 19th, 2001, he was arrested at the bus station because police found Falun Gong books and flyers in his possession. He was sentenced to six years in prison. Guards saw that he would not renounce Falun Gong, so they had prisoners put 35 pound ankle shackles on him and forced him to stand out under the burning sun and beat him brutally. It was not until Mr. Yi was in critical condition that the prison agreed to release him on August 8th, 2007. He suffered in pain for another six months, dying on February 13th, 2008, at the age of 45. |

| Beijing Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Bai Shaohua Hospitalised for Emergency Treatment [18.03.2008] |
On February 20th, 2008, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Bai Shaohua and Mr. Yang Hui were driving from the urban district of Beijing to Huairou District and were stopped by police for inspection. They were subsequently arrested. On March 4th, 2008, according to someone with inside information, Mr. Bai Shaohua, who was imprisoned at the Huairou District Detention Centre in Beijing, was escorted to a hospital emergency. He has also been imprisoned and brutalised numerous times, including being electrically shocked. |

| Mr. Huang Liqiao Brutally Tortured in Several Forced Labour Camps in Tianjin [18.03.2008] |
Mr. Huang firmly believes in Falun Gong and refused to be "transformed". [brainwashed] Unfortunately he became a prime target for persecution at the Shuangkou Forced Labour Camp. The guards tried to force him to learn the prison regulations by heart and take a test, but he refused. Guards brutally beat him. When they were exhausted, they used an electric baton to shock him on his head and chest. His body twitched from the high voltage shocks and he slammed onto the concrete floor. Numerous burn marks appeared on his head and chest. The guards forced him to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong, and instigated other inmates to beat him. |

| The Persecution of Practitioner Ma Guobiao and His Family in Shanghai [17.03.2008] |
In December 2002, when Ma Guobiao was at work, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents came to arrest him and detained him in Changning District Detention Centre. Later on, they sentenced him to two years of forced labour. In the labour camp, practitioners were imprisoned in a specific group and tortured. Ma Guobiao was shocked with electric batons on his private parts, and tortured with the "Shanghai Style Tiger Bench" (the practitioner is pushed against a wall and several people stretch his legs apart to 180 degrees, while several others beat him and hit him). He was also deprived of sleep. |

| The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province [17.03.2008] |
On October 12th, 2007, 42-year-old Ms. Gao Chunlian was arrested once again and is still being detained. Her life is already at risk since she became mentally disordered from torture. In April 2001, police arrested Ms. Gao. They held her in the Shijingshan Detention Centre in Beijing for 25 days. She was forced to sit on a stool the whole day. If her posture was not straight, the guards would beat her. Later on, she was transferred to Zhuozhou Detention Centre. Ms. Gao started a protest hunger strike. Chief Wang ordered prison doctor Zhang Yugang to force-feed Ms. Gao. Zhang Yugang inserted a thick rubber tube into Ms. Gao's nose and down to her stomach. When the tube was removed, large amounts of blood followed. The detained criminals who were watching were so upset by this that they cried. She suffered inhuman beating as well. She is now barely recognisable and is close to death. |

| More Details Concerning the Persecution of Ms. Xu Hui of Sichuan Province [17.03.2008] |
Ms. Xu Hui, 44, has been persecuted for the last eight years by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In February 2000, Ms. Xu and a few other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Ms. Xu was arrested and later sent to Chongqing City Women's Forced Labour Camp in Maojiashan for a year. In 2001, Ms. Xu finished her forced labour sentence and went home. The manager of the Security Department of Songzao Mine, Gong Xe, told her to write a letter pledging to not practise Falun Gong, and threatened that if she did not comply, they would either fire her husband from his job or tell him to divorce her. |

| The Persecution Suffered by Ms. Wang Xiangling from Chifeng, Inner Mongolia [17.03.2008] |
In March 2000, police went to Ms. Wang Xiangling's home and told her to sign a guarantee statement that she would not practise Falun Gong. Ms. Wang refused. As a result she was taken to a police station, fined, detained for 15 days, and forced to sign a "statement" that abused and slandered Falun Gong. In December 2000, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for an end to the persecution. She was compelled to become homeless in order to avoid being arrested from home. The authorities issued a warrant for her arrest. They went to her home, her daughter's school, and her relatives to harass them many times. Her daughter suffered both physically and mentally. They also conspired with the secretary from her husband's company to pressure him to turn in his wife. Under such formidable pressure, her husband was compelled to divorce Ms. Wang. |

| 61-Year-Old Ms. Chen Wen'ai Dies as Result of Persecution in Sichuan Province [16.03.2008] |
Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Wen'ai, 61, was arrested multiple times because she kept her faith in Falun Gong, and she was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after she was arrested on May 25th, 2005. Ms. Chen was detained in the Sichuan Province Women's Prison located in Jianyang City. The Prison Administration released her at the end of July 2007 because she was dying from the brutal mistreatment. Ms. Chen never recovered and died on February 24th, 2008. |

| The Persecution Ms. Zong Xiuxia Suffered before She Died [16.03.2008] |
On the morning of February 22nd, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zong Xiuxia, a resident of Weifang City, Shandong Province, was reported while she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong near the Jialejia Supermarket in Kuiwen District. At around 11:00 a.m., Ms. Zong Xiuxia was taken to Guangwen Police Station and interrogated. That night, her family was notified to come down to the police station to identify and claim her body. It was noted that her time of the death was around 3:00 p.m. Her family was asked to acquiesce to their claim that Ms. Zong committed suicide. |

| Detained Practitioners on Hunger Strike in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province to Protest Persecution; Several Are in Critical Condition [16.03.2008] |
On February 25th, 2008, twelve practitioners were arrested in Chaoyang City. Among them was Mr. Chen Baofeng, who was tortured to death on the eighth day of his detention. To protest the persecution, the remaining practitioners have been on hunger strike, and many of their lives are now in danger. Ms. Jing Fei and Ms. Li Yingxuan suffer from swelling in all parts of their bodies and are in critical condition. |

| Ms. Hu Aiqin Has Been Sentenced to Eight Years in Xinjiang [16.03.2008] |
Ms. Hu Aiqin, a Falun Gong practitioner from Hami City in Xinjiang had been held in custody by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for a year. Around the end of 2007, she was sentenced to another eight years. After this sentence, the CCP finally allowed family members to visit her by appointment. When her mother went to visit her, an elderly lady with white hair came out. She thought to herself, "I never knew they locked elderly ladies in here." At a closer glance, she realized that the elderly lady was her daughter. In one year's time, her daughter's black hair had turned white. Ms. Hu's mother became stricken with grief. |

| Ms. Zou Jiqin Dies as a Result of Persecution in Heilongjiang Province [15.03.2008] |
Ms. Zou Jiqin, 45, was detained by police several times for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. In 2002, she went on a hunger strike to protest the detention, only to be tortured by being force-fed while tied on the floor with her four limbs stretched apart. She almost died from this treatment. Five times she was tortured with the "Big Back Cuff," an excruciating torture. She was also subjected to many other tortures, including being forced to sit on a wire spool (a very rough surface), not allowed to use the toilet, subjected to long-term sleep deprivation, forced to do hard labour, and subjected to freezing temperatures. Ms. Zou was in extremely poor health when she was finally released. On February 29th, 2008, Ms. Zou died at the age of 46. |

| Chen Zihui Tortured at the Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City [15.03.2008] |
In 2002 Mr. Chen was sent to the Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp and taken to division five, which is the most notoriously cruel division in the labour camp. The division leader Zhao Shuang is outrageous and vengeful. Under his leadership, guards tortured practitioners in just about every way imaginable. In order to "transform" [brainwash] practitioners, they forced them to squat from 5 am to midnight. Besides that, they also tortured practitioners with the "big hang up", electric shocks, pricking them with darts, allowing mice to bite them, pinching and rubbing their private parts, and push-break. The "push-break" is a where they push someone to the ground. A guard rides on top of the practitioner's body, with feet or knees against the practitioner's lower back, while at the same time pulling the practitioner's arms up and back. Some practitioners' arms were broken from this torture. |

| Kuang Shitai's Story: Still Persecuted After His Wife Dies and Daughter Forced into Homelessness [15.03.2008] |
In February 2008, while Mr. Kuang Shitai, a Falun Gong practitioner was home alone, several officers from the local police station suddenly came and surrounded his home. They ordered him to turn in his daughter, Ms. Kuang Wenying. Over the past several years, Ms. Kuang Wenying has been detained and sent to forced labour camps. For the past few years, to avoid being arrested and persecuted again, she has led a vagrant life. She did not dare to go home to visit her father at all. His wife, Ms. Guo Sulan, suffered poor health due to persecution. She could not go home either and had to remain homeless. After one year of painful suffering, she passed away in November 2003. |

The Beijing Public Security Bureau has persecuted over one hundred Falun Gong practitioners since January 2008. They have searched practitioners' homes, persecuted their family members, and ransacked companies and factories run by practitioners. Manager Chen of Jinkui Decorative Painting Company is an extremely sincere and kind person, and he has hired many practitioners. After practitioners were arrested, their family members went to Dongcheng Detention Centre many times requesting to visit, but they were turned away without being given a reason. |

At 6 a.m. on February 25th, 2008, fifteen Falun Gong practitioners from Suizhong County, Liaoning Province were arrested at nearly the same time by the local police. The arrest of Falun Gong practitioners in Huludao, Jinzhou, Chaoyang and other cities in Liaoning Province also happened near the same time. they were all detained in detention centres. Some detained Falun Gong practitioners are going on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. |

Ms. Wang Qi, a 30-year-old health care professional, was arrested by the District Public Security Bureau while she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. She was detained in Hexi Detention Centre and later was sent to the forced labour camp in Huhhaote City for two years. She has a five-year-old son who had never been without his mother before. Now, in the absence of his mother, imagine how he feels! His mother also misses him very much. |

Ms. Huang Zhiping, 39 years old, was sent to a forced labour camp three times for practising Falun Gong. In 2004 she was cruelly tortured and interrogated by policemen from Chengnan Sub-bureau in Guangan City. In order to force her to renounce her belief policeman Wang Hongwei handcuffed Ms. Huang until the cuffs cut into her flesh and hit the left side of her face with strong blows. He continued the torture, hitting Ms. Huang's lower jaw with very strong blows. Her tongue and teeth were bleeding. Wearing his heavy leather shoes, he stomped on Ms. Huang's toes with all his strength. |

| Falun Gong Practitioners in Dehui City, Jilin Province Arrested to "Prepare" for the Olympic Games [14.03.2008] |
On March 6th, 2008, police officers from Dehui City Police Department, together with people from the Changchun City Police Department, arrested two practitioners in Dehui City. The police went to the Chalukou Town No. Eight Middle School. These persecutors arrested Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Chen Xuedong and Geng Jisheng, both of whom are teachers at the school. From there, the police went to Chen Xuedong's house and ransacked it. They confiscated a computer, a printer, a colour inkjet printer and some other personal belongings. They also beat Chen in his own home. According to a source, Chen Xuedong was sent to Changchun City for further persecution. |

| The Persecution of Ms. Zhu Lanying in Baoding City, Hebei Province [12.03.2008] |
On February 19th, 2008, Ms. Zhu Lanying and another two practitioners were reported when distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. They are now detained in the Baoding City Detention Centre. Ms. Zhu was previously detained in Baoding City Detention Centre in 2001 her legs, hips, and back turned blue from cyanosis, a condition caused by lack of oxygen in the blood, due to persecution she suffered. Her elderly mother was grief-stricken by the persecution of her daughter and worried about her so much that she passed away in May 2001. |

Ms. Wang Fafeng and Ms. Wang Zaifeng, two elderly practitioners in Mengying County, Shandong Province, were arrested when they were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. The local police took them to Shandong Province No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp for an 18 month sentence. The police also broke into Ms. Wang's home, ransacked it and confiscated a bundle of leaflets exposing the persecution, Falun Gong books, a TV and DVD player. They also smashed her portable stereo and stole 200 yuan in cash. The policemen punched and kicked her husband and stuffed him in the boot of the car. |

| My Persecution Experiences at the Hands of Domestic Security Team Officers from the Yueyangluo District Police Department [12.03.2008] |
On November 2nd, 2007, a security person from the First Middle School in Yueyang City reported me as I distributed leaflets exposing the persecution around the school. Officers from the Yueyanglou Police Station arrested me and then took me to the police department. They interrogated me for six hours, then sent me to the Yueyang City First Detention Centre. Once there, they searched me, and confiscated my personal belongings, which had a value of 1,600 yuan. While I was being interrogated seven police officers ransacked my home. They confiscated my Falun Gong books and CDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, and other items. They told me that this was the "evidence" against me. While I was in the First Detention Centre, the guards instigated inmates to beat me because I didn't cooperate with their "education and reform" policy. They bound me spread-eagle to a wooden board for three nights and two days. |

Mr. Li Chuanyu, a 40-year-old, Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested by police from the Public Security Bureau of Juancheng County in the summer of 2006. His whereabouts are currently unknown. Mr. Li Chuanyu lived in a poverty-stricken county. He is disabled, his wife suffers from mental illness, and his daughter is ill. Nevertheless, the county police repeatedly broke into his home and extorted thousands of yuan from his family every time he was released from police custody. |

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Guiming, 40, was arrested in 2002 by police and sentenced to five years in prison. In the Jilin prison, Mr. Wang was once brutally beaten for eight days straight, until he was almost unrecognisable and in critical condition. On February 23rd, 2004, he was transferred to Siping City Prison. Mr. Wang was locked in a small cell and guards shocked him with four electric batons, severely injuring his face . Mr. Wang went on a hunger strike to protest, and the guards force-fed him nearly for a month in the prison hospital. He died on February 29th, 2008. |

It is reported that four detained Falun Gong practitioners from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province are on the verge of death. They are Liu Yingxu who is detained in the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre, Jiang Yunhong who is detained in the Wumaping Prison in Leshan, Zhou Huimin who is detained in the Nanmusi Forced Labour Camp in Zizhong and Zhong Fangqiong who is detained in the Pi County Detention Centre in Chengdu City. We call for the immediate release of these four Falun Gong practitioners. |

| Relatives Try to Rescue Beijing Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Qi Wei [12.03.2008] |
On February 22nd, 2008, Qi Wei was forcibly taken away by police officers from Anzhen Police Station. It has been 14 days and there has been no word from him. His family has not received any legal documents from the police station. At about 9:20 p.m. on February 22nd, when Mr. Qi and his newly-wedded wife were out for a walk, four plainclothes officers approached suddenly and, without presenting any ID, started kicking and beating Mr. Qi. They forcibly took the couple to the police station. At 3 a.m. on February 23rd, Mr. Qi's wife was released after vigorous protest from her family. Mr. Qi's family and friends have searched everywhere for him, but authorities at the police station, detention centre, and Chaoyang Public Security have told them they didn't know where he is. It is not known whether he is still alive or not. |

| Zhuhai City 610 Office Continues to Persecute Ms. Zhao Juanjuan [12.03.2008] |
On January 3rd, 2008, six or seven police officers broke into Falun Gong practitioner Zhao Juanjuan's home and ransacked it. They took away his printer, Falun Gong books, leaflets exposing the persecution, and other personal belongings. On January 18th, Zhao Juanjuan was accosted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police again on the street. Four police officers (three male and one female) forcefully lifted her into the vehicle and took her to the Third Detention Centre in Zhuhai. Because Zhao Juanjuan exceeded the age limit, the detention centre did not accept her. Another detention centre also refused to accept her. Since none of the detention centres would accept her, she was taken back home at 5pm, but was treated brutally by police. |

Wei Rongdi was 53 years old. After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, she distributed leaflets explaining the truth about Falun Gong so that the Chinese people could understand the unreasonable persecution and what Falun Gong is really about. She went to Beijing several times to appeal for Falun Gong and was persecuted for doing so. On April 26th, 2007, Benxi City Police Department officials arrested more than 70 practitioners overnight. Ms. Wei was one of them. They kept her in Dabailou Detention Centre. She developed a tumour in her stomach. Although she was released, the police never stopped harassing her. Due to the long-term torture and the delayed treatment, her physical condition deteriorated. Wei Rongdi died on February 17th, 2008. |

| Jilin Province Police Follow the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Orders to Persecute Falun Gong and Use the 2008 Olympics as an Excuse [11.03.2008] |
Several days ago, Jilin Province police officials held an internal meeting. They were given secret orders with the following main points: "With the 2008 Olympic Games approaching, the Communist Party will investigate Falun Gong practitioners, one by one, from a list, because Falun Gong has now established a strong foothold in more than 80 countries around the world. For example, Chen Shui-Bian, the president of Taiwan, publicly supports Falun Gong, and Falun Gong in China is again on the rise. Falun Gong is now able to hold its own against the Party, both financially and politically. Officers within the police system were told not to be indifferent nor relax and to investigate Falun Gong practitioners one by one in Jilin Province, in order to guarantee the successful opening of the Olympics Games." |

| Liu Changrui from Mengyin County, Shandong Province Arrested, Detained and Fined by Communist Party Officials Five Times [11.03.2008] |
On March 5th, 2001, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held its national conferences, Falun Gong practitioner Liu Changrui was forcibly taken away by police officers and CCP officials from the town government. He was locked in a cold cement warehouse. There were no bed covers and cement powder covered the ground. He could only squat or stand, and he was not allowed to use the toilet. Mr. Liu was locked up there for over 20 days. During the daytime, he was forced to work in the fields, planting potatoes, cleaning and planting trees. |

| 56-Year-Old Mr. Zhang Dongxing and His Wife Harassed and Arrested in Chiping County, Shandong Province [11.03.2008] |
Mr. Zhang Dongxing and his wife have been threatened by local police many times since the persecution began. In May 2003, police scaled the walls of their house, dragged Mr. Zhang and his wife from their bed, and handcuffed them without letting them get dressed. The police searched the home and seized the couple's Falun Gong books as well as their new DVD player. They then took the couple to the County Detention Centre and held them for over a month. They were not released until they had paid several thousand yuan. In December 2007, police arrested Mr. Zhang once again. They also seized computer equipment stored in his home. Although Mr. Zhang had no computer knowledge, he was charged with making illegal overseas contacts on the Internet and sentenced to one year in the Shandong Province Second Forced Labour Camp. |

| As Beijing Prepares for the Olympics, Seven More Falun Gong Practitioners Are Verified to Have Died as a Result of Persecution and Torture in January 2008 [10.03.2008] |
In January 2008, seven more Falun Gong practitioners in China were verified to have died as a result of persecution and torture. Six of them were women, three over the age of 50, and three died in January. Since July 20th, 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong, at least 3,127 practitioners have died as a result of the persecution. This is the ninth year of this systematic, brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Nine years ago, despite the benefits Falun Gong brought to the Chinese people and society as a whole, former head of the CCP Jiang Zemin started the persecution because there were more Falun Gong practitioners than the number of people in the Communist Party. |

On February 27th, 2008, the 610 Office, the Dehui City Police Department, and the Changchun City Police Department arrested more than ten Falun Dafa practitioners and detained them in the Dehui City Detention Centre. They ransacked the practitioners' homes, stole their personal property, and recorded them with video cameras while they were arresting them. |

| Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp Cruelly Tortures Falun Gong Practitioners [10.03.2008] |
Practitioners do forced labour every day. They get up at 6:00 a.m., brush their teeth, do morning exercise, have breakfast and then do forced labour with no breaks the whole day. They will finish the whole day's work at 9:30 p.m. at the earliest. If there is an urgent job, they usually have to work until 2:00 - 3:00 a.m. or even the whole night. When they sew mobile phone covers, they do not go back to their bedrooms for a whole week. If the practitioners refuse to work, they are punished by being forced to stand until 2:00 - 3:00 a.m. If they do not comply with the standing punishment, they are beaten with their hands and feet bound and their mouths taped, then dragged somewhere where no one can hear the noise. |

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Mei, from Jinzhou City, was reported to the police while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and was sentenced to one year of forced labour. Ms. Liu Mei is imprisoned at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City. She is suffering from a relapse of old diseases and convulsions caused by the torture she has suffered. The warden has prohibited her family from visiting her because she refuses to renounce Falun Gong.

| Mr. Chen Baofeng Died in Police Custody in Liaoning Province [09.03.2008] |
Mr. Chen Baofeng, 43, lived in Liaoning Province. On February 24th, 2008, he was driving his taxi to take some friends out of town when the police stopped his vehicle, and arrested him and his passengers. After being held for several days, they were transferred to the Chaoyang City First Detention Centre on March 3rd, 2008. Mr. Chen was killed the same night, and thus far, the family has still not been allowed to see his body. |

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yi Fuquan was sentenced to one year of forced labour because he went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong after July 20th, 1999, the start of the persecution. On August 19th, 2001, Mr. Yi was arrested at the bus station when police found a Falun Gong book and flyer on him. He was sentenced to six years in prison by the Shuangcheng City Court. Ms. Mao Jiangxin is in her 60s. The police sent her to Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp in early 2007. Because she refused to "reform," [give up Falun Gong]they locked her in a toilet, a specially built "small cell", with the windows and doors sealed. There is no air-flow in the toilet/cell and the foul odour is suffocating. Ms. Mao was often beaten and verbally abused by guards. In the winter the cell is as cold as a freezer. To reach the ordered "reform quota" and gain some petty profit, the three female guards attempted to force Ms. Mao to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. Ms. Mao did not comply. Guards then ordered criminals to beat Ms. Mao's face and kick her body, making her fall onto the ice-cold floor. |

In 2006, Falun Gong Practitioner Liu Yaqin was arrested while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. The 610 Office sentenced her to a year and a half in a labour camp. Due to complications following severe paraplegia from myelitis, she cannot take care of herself without some assistance and was rejected by the labour camp. Later, they forced her into a labour camp without a physical examination. |

Mr. Yan Hongjie was 46-years-old. In November 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and since that time endured unjust detainment and persecution. As a punishment for doing the Falun Gong exercises in Yimianpo Forced Labour Camp the guards forced him to carry heavy rocks. A full basket of rocks on one's shoulder could make a person fall and breathing was difficult. Even so, Mr. Yan was forced to run uphill with a full bucket of stones on his shoulders. This hard labour produced wounds all over his body.The persecution that Mr. Yan Hongjie was subjected to caused him physical damage and financial ruin. He passed away on February 24th, 2008. |

Due to the Chinese Communist Party's long term persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Qi Changping, a 62-year-old practitioner was forced to leave her home. Ms. Qi was detained many times and sentenced to a forced labour camp twice because she refused to give up her practice of Falun Gong. She was caught appealing for justice for Falun Gong. Even her relatives were harassed, and the police ransacked their homes. Her husband had nowhere to go to appeal for justice and passed away. She had to live a life in the harsh environment of homelessness until her death on February 11th, 2008. |

On the afternoon of May 9th, 2007, policeman from the Shuguang Road precinct in the Nan'guan District of Changchun went to Ms. Yang Defang's house and arrested her. Later, they camped out at her home and waited for her husband to come home. In order to draw out other practitioners, they made Ms. Yang's thirteen year old son stand on the street as bait. Policemen hid on the other side of the street, intending to arrest anyone who said hello to the boy. |

Mr. Hu Zengxiang was over 60 years old. Mr. Hu never gave up his belief in the principles of Falun Gong--"Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance"--even when the persecution launched by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was most severe. He never stopped speaking out for justice for Falun Gong either. In 2005, he was detained for more than a month in Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. After he returned home, he was very weak due to the brutal treatment he was subjected to in the labour camp. Mr. Hu was again secretly arrested by CCP personnel on December 29th, 2007. Within about three weeks he was dead. |

According to sources from Beijing, from the end of 2007 to early this year, at least 100 Falun Gong practitioners with confirmed names (oftentimes practitioners do not reveal their true identity to protect family, friends and colleagues) have been arrested in Beijing. Some were immediately sentenced to eight months in prison. It is believed to be a new round of suppression by the Chinese Communist Party before the next session of the National Congress in March and the Olympics in August 2008. |

Mingjiang Community Security officer Liu Hong has relentlessly followed Communist regime orders to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Recently he cooperated with people from the Longquan 610 Office and arrested three elderly practitioners Ms. Zhang Cifang (72 years old), Ms. Shi Lanfang (72 years old), and Ms. Li Fangling (in her sixties) and took them to a brainwashing centre. After these three practitioners were detained in the brainwashing centre, they were closely monitored around the clock and forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. Oftentimes, they were faced with one or more people who continually yelled at them and tried to brainwash them. They were often verbally abused and beaten. |

On January 21st, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Liu Zhimin, detained at Hulan Prison, was beaten up by political instructor Lu Mingdong. Lu said while beating Mr. Liu, "I will be responsible if you suffer a concussion." Liu Zhimin still lies in bed, his face swollen and his teeth loose. One of the many tortures meted out on practitioners includes: "chain sitting", where one's chest is bound tightly to the back of the person in front. The eyes have to focus on the front persons' head, and the legs have to be spread apart. They have to sit like this for 14 to 15 hours every day. Practitioners' eyes must be open, otherwise they would be beaten. |

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Wenxia was arrested in 2000 and taken to the Tanggu Detention Centre. She was incarcerated for nine months and was near death at her release. She was barely breathing and looked skeletal. She could not see clearly, and her hearing was bad. She also had difficulty speaking. Communist regime agents still continually harassed and threatened her. Li Wenxia thus lived in great fear and could not recover properly. She finally died in December 2006.

Ms. Shi Yingchun, 58, is from Huludao City, Liaoning Province. In the years of persecution of Falun Gong, Shi Yingchun has been arrested three times for practising the Falun Gong exercises in a a park and has been imprisoned and tortured for five years in total. In Masanjia Forced Labour Camp she was often beaten by guards. Compared to the physical torture, the mental torment was more cruel. Under the pressure and lies of warden Qiu Ping, Shi Yingchun was "transformed" and wrote a guarantee of "not practising any more". After that, she felt sad and depressed and often cried for no reason. Then she was sent to a mental hospital forcefully and prescribed some medication for mental disorders. She was forced to take the medication and so-called "punctuation" treatment in the forced labour camp. She felt awful after taking the medication and the treatment once, so they had to stop. |

On January 15th, 2008, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) court in the Hongkou District of Shanghai City, carried out instructions from the 610 Office, acting in accordance with prearranged procedure, to sentence seriously ill Falun Gong practitioner Zhou Lixun to three years in prison. The sentence will be served outside of prison, because of her poor health, to three years in prison. The sentence will be served outside of prison because of her poor health. When she was arrested on the street for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution one passerby said: "Why do people who practise Falun Gong have to suffer this type of mistreatment?" |

On May 9th, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Zhonghua and two other practitioners from Xichang City, Sichuan Province, went to a fellow practitioner's home to install a satellite receiver. Personnel from the National Security Team of Xichang City arrested them. Mr. Li Zhonghua was sentenced to one year and three months of forced labour. He is currently detained and subjected to torture at the Mapingba Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Xichang City. The detainees there often extort money from him, and beat and verbally abuse him. |
