On August 15th, 2006, practitioner Ms. Zhao Tianxiu was arrested at home and taken to the Weifang Detention Centre. She was then sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour. During that time, she endured inhuman tortures. Thugs beat her up. Zhao Tianxiu fainted many times from the inhuman tortures she was subjected to. After the doctor discovered her heart rate to be faster than usual and her blood pressure high, the guards stopped beating her, but they would watch her day and night, to prevent her from sleeping. She was finally released in January 2008.

Ms. Chi Yan was a very healthy person before she was persecuted. However, under Chinese Communist Party rule, she was subjected to such brutal treatment mentally, physically, and financially such as being beaten with electric batons and forced labour that she developed an incurable illness. The labour camp guards intentionally delayed her treatment and now her health has deteriorated.

Along with her child, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Xia has been arrested five times by members of the the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999. The first four times, she was imprisoned and had to leave her son to her parents. However, due to the immense psychological pressure, both grandparents passed away. Now, Ms. Ma has been subjected to prolonged persecution by the CCP along with her son.

On February 21st, 2008, the director of the No. 1 men's division of the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp obtained "dead man's beds" and forced all "personal cangues" [Note: "cangues" are detainees assigned to implement close surveillance on practitioners] to use them on Falun Gong practitioners who went on hunger strikes. According to eyewitnesses, four practitioners were viciously beaten by prison inmates. Practitioner Zhen Haitao and Chen Yan were tied to the "dead man's bed." Their limbs were stretched out in four different directions. An object was inserted in their mouths so that they could not close their mouths or speak. They were force fed, their lives are in danger.

Forty-five-year-old Ms. Zhang Fan and seventy-year-old Ms. Zhang Zhongrong are Falun Dafa practitioners from Nan'an District, Chongqing Municipality. On January 13th, 2008, the eve of the Chongqing Municipality's Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) conferences, police officers searched practitioners' homes, and then arrested and imprisoned them at the Wangxiangtai Brainwashing Centre in Gezigou, Chongqing Municipality. The police lied to the practitioners' families, telling them that the practitioners were taken to the local Tongyuanju Police Station.

In October 2002, the Wuyuancheng District Court in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, sentenced Ms. Chen Yao, 31, to a three-and-a-half-year prison term, to be served at the Zhejiang Province Women's Prison in Hangzhou City. To protest the inhuman forced brainwashing she was subjected to in prison, Ms. Chen began a hunger strike on January 8th, 2008. Almost two months have passed. Ms. Chen Yao is extremely weak and near death.

On February 17th, 2008, Mr. Yang Baochun's wife went to see her husband, who was imprisoned in Yongkang Psychiatric Hospital in Handan City, Hebei Province. He lost his right leg as a result of being tortured in Handan City Forced Labour Camp. While his wife was visiting, Mr. Yang escaped from the psychiatric hospital, where he had been imprisoned for over five years. His wife was then detained for an hour before she was released. That night, Mr. Yang was arrested at his home and taken back to the psychiatric hospital. His family has asked the authorities over and over again how it is possible that Mr. Yang could be imprisoned for eight years without any legal procedures having been followed. Local and central government officials said that the orders came from higher up and that they could not risk losing their jobs by releasing him.

Ms. Huang Yaoying, a practitioner, died as a result of persecution in the Chengnan Police Station of Gaozhou City in 2000. Government officials claimed that the reason for Ms. Huang death was unknown, but recently it was disclosed that Ms. Huang Yaoying had most likely died as a result of police brutality. An insider revealed that Ms. Huang Yaoying was hung up with handcuffs and had likely been beaten or tortured until she lost consciousness. The room and corridor were stained with blood. One of the doctors who performed the autopsy on Ms. Huang's body stated that her body was still bleeding at the time. Ms. Huang Yaoying was pronounced dead and sent for an autopsy, but she may have still been alive.

At around 9:30 p.m. on February 22nd, 2008, Mr. Qi Wei, was taking a stroll with his wife near their home when several plain clothes police officers apprehended them and took them away to the Anzhen Police Station in Chaoyang District. Half a dozen officers then broke into their home and confiscated a notebook computer and a removable hard drive. The officers viciously beat Mr. Qi Wei when he was taken into custody. Mr. Qi sustained several bruises. The police were rude and violent.

On February 22nd, 2008, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zong Xiuxia was arrested when she was distributing leaflets in public explaining the truth about Falun Gong so that the Chinese people could understand the unreasonable persecution and what Falun Gong is really about, and she died on the same day. Her body has been frozen, and details are yet to be investigated. The police said that Ms. Zong died from jumping out of the elevator in the hospital. We find this very unreasonable, for three police officers were watching her in the hospital. How could she jump out of the elevator in a crowded hospital in the middle of the afternoon? If it was true, why weren't there any witnesses?

In October 2002, Mr. Xu Linshan, 57, was sentenced to five years in prison. Guards tortured him by stabbing him with needles, force-feeding him highly concentrated salt water, locking him in strictly monitored cell, etc. By 2004, his femur was broken, making him bedridden. He developed swelling in his whole body, cirrhosis, ascites due to cirrhosis, kidney failure, purulent meningitis, etc. He was as thin as a skeleton, jaundiced, blurry minded, and suffered loss of memory. He was dying when he was "bailed out for medical treatment." Mr. Xu was picked up by his family on December 31st, 2005. He was totally paralyzed yet the local police and neighbourhood administration still harassed him many times. He died on February 11th, 2008.

Mr. Zhang Shunjie was 41 years old. Because he refused to give up the practice of Falun Gong, he was cruelly beaten many times by the agents of the 610 Office, police and Wei County Detention Centre. The backs of his hands severely swelled up from the beatings. The palms of his hands and his body had been burned by the stove hook and cigarette butts. His skin was burned and black where he had been shocked with electric batons. Mr. Zhang suffered from many serious diseases such as cerebral hemorrhage, heart disease, and pneumonia, and for several years he frequently felt dizzy, experienced chest pain, spat up blood and had asthma. Over time these symptoms became more severe. On December 15th, 2007, Mr. Zhang Shunjie died an unjust death due to the persecution.

In September 2001, Yi County police arrested and imprisoned me at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp for two years and four months. I experienced all kinds of excruciating persecution there. In attempts to force me to abandon my Falun Gong practice, they subjected me to many types of abuse. For example, my hands were cuffed behind my back to the radiator water pipe. I could only sit on a very small chair, with my legs protruding. My arms became black and blue, and my legs could hardly support me, and experienced penetrating pain. Later, they removed the small chair and made me sit on the concrete floor. I experienced many other kinds of torture as well.

At around 9:00 a.m. on February 22nd, 2008, more than one dozen practitioners were arrested while watching the New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) Chinese New Year Splendour in Mr. Ma Guobiao's home. Police ransacked the home and detained Mr. Ma and his parents at the Jiading District Detention Centre. The remaining practitioners are being detained at their home district detention centres. The NTDTV Chinese New Year Splendour is performed by the Divine Performing Arts Company to promote five thousand years of genuine traditional Chinese culture. The arrest of Mr. Ma's family and other practitioners is an example of how Chinese people do not have the right to watch this show in the privacy of their own homes.

On February 11th, 2008, a group of parents, children and teachers were holding a "winter study camp" activity at the Chailin Hotel in the Yujiatou Community, Wuchang District of Wuhan City. The focus of their activity was to study the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance and how to apply the principles in daily life in order to be a good person. In the afternoon, more than 10 police officers from the first Division of the Wuhan Police Department led by the Division Chief Lu, barged into the Chailin Hotel and detained teachers Ms. Chen Man, Ms. Xiong Yingzhi, a dozen or so children and some of the parents. The police videotaped the children and the parents. A dozen or so children were isolated from their parents and the police shouted at the children whose parents were not present.

The Olympic Games will be held in Beijing this year. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has already started to arrest Falun Gong practitioners en masse in the various districts and townships of Beijing. They claim that this is necessary for the Olympic Games to proceed smoothly. Ms. Li Yuejin was laid off at work several years ago because she practises Falun Gong. On February 19th, 2008, about a dozen police officers surrounded her home. The police forcibly entered Ms. Li Yuejin's home and searched it several times, but they did not find the "evidence" they wanted. After they took away Ms. Li Yuejin and her computer, the police informed her family that the computer contained information about Falun Gong. However, Ms. Li's family knows she does not know how to use the computer. Ms. Li Yuejin is detained but her whereabouts are unknown.

Officials at the Hubei "Legal and Law Education" Centre--the Brainwashing Centre at Yangxun Lake--persecute Falun Gong practitioners by mental torment to try to force them to abandon the practice of Falun Gong. They have set up an overall system that involves detaining practitioners in a sealed prison environment and using three groups of people--called "accompanying educators," "helping educators" and police--to mentally torment them and persecute them.

Mr. Liu Zenglin, who was over 70 years old, was arrested in June 2004 when he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. Police tried to force him to write a statement renouncing Falun Gong, but Mr. Liu refused to do so. Consequently, he was brutally tortured until he displayed symptoms of a stroke. He then spent two years of brutal persecution in a labour camp, where Mr. Liu became extremely weak and emaciated. When Mr. Liu returned home, he was very weak, could not eat, and coughed terribly every day. After being tortured both mentally and physically, Mr. Liu died an unjust death on February 9th, 2008.

Practitioner Ms. He Lihua was having her period and when she went to use the toilet, the personal cangues did not untie the rope that tied her hands behind her back. Blood stained her trousers and as a result the cangues swore at her and slapped her face. Some time later this practitioner suffered a mental collapse and was taken to the sick ward. Now the guards have taken her to the "Intensive Assault Division" in an attempt to force her to renounce Falun Gong. Guo Xiaohua tied practitioner Ms. Zhu Fuju's hands behind her back and hung her up. As a result of the intense brutality, her left arm was disabled. She could no longer could raise her arm and there was a red scar on her right wrist.

Mr. Li Qinjun and his wife Ms. Zhang Xiaorong went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong. As a result they were detained by police and beaten severely. This repeatedly happened. In 2007 Mr. Li Qinjun was arrested again and detained in Sanlizhuang Detention Centre. Later, Mr. Ms. Zhang was arrested by police without a valid reason and detained in the Shibalihe Women's Forced Labour Camp. During her detention, Ms. Zhang was tortured until she became mentally disordered. Their eleven-year-old son, Li Longkun, had to do the housework and take care of his five-year-old sister, Li Jingyu.

On February 15th, 2008, when practitioner Mr. Zhao Jian, detained in the Third Ward of First Branch of Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, shouted out, "Falun Gong is good" and "Stop persecution of Falun Gong", in the cafeteria, the camp guards ordered inmate Hong Fei to severely beat him. Afterwards, all of the practitioners in the Third Ward refused to do any labour to protest the brutality. Practitioners Chen Yan and Wang Jufeng began hunger strikes and demanded that their persecutors be brought to justice. Practitioners in the First Ward and the Second Ward have since joined the hunger strikes.

Mr. Bai Yingjie was persecuted so extensively that he became critically ill in the Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp. After he was released at the end of 2004, officers of the local police station and staff members from the residential district office harassed and threatened him in his home. Under the long-term persecution of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), he passed away on August 30th, 2007.

Police once again arrested Falun Dafa practitioner Dr. Zeng Jiafeng from Shanghai on February 10th, 2008. This is his sixth arrest since the Chinese Communist regime launched the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. Previously he was in forced labour camps suffering a variety of inhumane treatments including long-term sitting on a hard bench and being forbidden to move, corporal punishment, military drills, brainwashing, forced labour, verbal insults, and other abuses.

On July, 7th, 2007, I went to another practitioner's house. I was arrested by a policeman who was there to arrest the other practitioner. We were taken to the Hanbei Police Station. I did not tell the policeman my name. The policeman hit my face when he lost his temper. When night fell, I was not allowed to sleep again and once more I was forced to stand. I still did not cooperate with them, so they beat me some more. Later a group of policemen surrounded me and started to beat me. I later suffered a heart attack and was in a very serious state. The police from the Xinshi District Department then agreed to release me. Originally I had 7,750 yuan in my handbag. When they grabbed my bag to count the cash there was suddenly only 5,550 yuan, 2,000 yuan less.

Ms. Gan Zhixi is 64-years-old. In 1999 Ms. Gan went to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong and was arrested and detained for five and a half months in a detention centre. In 2000, after appealing again, she was sentenced to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp for three years and in 2005 she was again sent to the labour camp.

From September 2001 to March 2003, I was detained in the forced labour camp in Qiqihar, Helongjiang Province. I encountered brutal brainwashing and was forced to do hard labour in a poisonous environment. In order to earn money in a low, base manner, the guards in the labour camp forced us into a one-story building nearby to pour pesticide into containers. The toxicity of some of the pesticides is very bad. After a whole day's work, some criminals had bloody noses, swollen eyes and faces, and chapped skin. People should have gas masks to pour pesticides, but we only had regular respirators. After a day's work, the toxic pesticide chemicals were all over our clothes, inside and out. We don't have hot water, let alone bathing facilities. Before meals, over 100 people had to wash their hands using water from the same basin and it was impossible to wash off all of the pesticide.

Li Changming, head of the Linghe District Police Department "Emergency Response" Patrol Division in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province persecuted Falun Gong practitioner Wang Xiufang. Police arrested four practitioners on January 29th, 2003. Wang Xiufang resisted the arrest, and four police officers grabbed her arms and legs. Li Changming grabbed her hair and dragged her from the third floor to the ground floor. When they arrived at the police department, Li Changming dragged her from the front gate into a room. When they drove her to the detention centre, he again grabbed her hair and dragged her in and out of the car. The detention centre doctor and guard Qiu saw blood and large bruises on her head.

Ms. Du Huiqiong and Mr. Luo Yuzhang from Xinjin County went to Jinhua Township to explain the facts about Falun Gong and expose the persecution on the afternoon of January 16th, 2008. Four men on two motorcycles blocked them. They called for a car and took the practitioners to the Jinhua Town Police Station. They released Du Huiqiong around midnight, but they have held Luo Yuzhang up until now. Both practitioners' homes were ransacked the night they were held at the Puxing Police Station. The officials took Dafa books and materials, VCDs and MP3 players.

In 2000, Mr. Yang Guoquan was sentenced to three years of forced labour for appealing in Beijing for the right to practise Falun Gong. In October 2007, Cheng Zishan (male) and Chen Biao (male), officers of the Xifeng County 610 Office, struck him on the mouth with electric batons. Also, they went to Juxiang Village and Toudaogou Village many times to deceive villagers and make them commit perjury. On December 25th, 2007, Mr. Yang was sentenced to three years in prison by the Xifeng County Court. Around January 25th, 2008, he was taken to Shenyang Prison and subjected to persecution.

Mr. Huang Fujun was taken to the First Detention Centre of Acheng on July 24th, 2007, after being tortured by police. He had bone fractures as the result of the torture. The police at first refused to allow his family to see him, and when his family was finally allowed to see him on November 2nd, he was already on the verge of death. His family sought outside help to obtain his release. In order to avoid being held responsible for his death, the authorities allowed Mr. Huang's family to pick him up from the hospital. On November 4th, Mr. Huang was finally taken home. He couldn't utter a word or recognise his family members. On November 6th, his face suddenly turned green, his mouth and eyes opened, and he passed away.

Ms. Zhu Shuyun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Changchun City was arrested on May 9th, 2007. She is currently being held in Heizuizi Women's Labour Camp. She did not sweep the snow before Christmas as the officials ordered her. Guard Liu Lianying shocked Ms. Zhu on her chest with electric baton(s) more than 20 times. That female guard also ordered inmate Yi Chun to savagely beat Zhu Shuyun until she went into convulsions and could not open her hands. Liu Lianying then shocked Ms. Zhu's hands with electric baton(s). Guard Liu Lianying would not let Ms. Zhu's family visit her on December 25th, 2007.

Zhang Guilian went to Beijing to appeal in October 2001. In January 2002, police broke into her home and ransacked it. The police took her to the third floor of the police department and handcuffed her behind her back to a chair. She went on a hunger strike to protest the detention. Police officers tortured her and did not let her sleep for three days and nights. Then they took her to a detention centre where she was held for more than two months. From there they took her to a brainwashing centre at a magnesium factory. Official Hou Cunli pressured her on a daily basis in an attempt to "reform" her. She had to pay her own living expenses in addition to having 2,000 yuan extorted from her. The guards took her to Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. The guards and collaborators brutally tortured Ms. Zhang for more than three weeks and would not let her sleep.

During the Chinese New Year, I heard a true story at my relatives' home which really illustrates how Falun Gong practitioners are treated in China. While a Falun Gong practitioner was taking care of a family member in the People's Hospital of Langfang City, she discovered that the expiration date of the infusion medicine had passed. Therefore, she told the doctor in charge. The director of the hospital not only intentionally ignored it, but also asked the police to arrest the practitioner for the crime of "making an illegal appeal during the Communist Party's 17th Congress." When the police arrested the practitioner, they hit her so hard that she lost consciousness. They forcibly took her away while she was still under emergency treatment in the hospital. Currently, she is being held in a brainwashing centre.

In December 2001, Ms. Zhang Jinlan, around 60 years old, went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution. She was arrested and sentenced to one year of forced labour. She was sent to a detention centre, where she wore heavy ankle shackles for five months, causing her ankles to bleed and fester. She was released when she could no longer move as a result of the brutal treatment. In July 2002, the police arrested her again and took her to to Ankang (Mental) Hospital. She was inhumanly tortured and injected with unknown drugs. After only one injection, she felt like she was having stroke and could not move half of her body. By September 2002, Ms. Zhang could no longer walk and had become mentally disordered; she was near death. She was totally paralysed, could not recognise anyone, and the lower part of body was severely infected. She died on February 1st, 2008.

On January 16th, 2008, Shijiazhuang City 610 Office agents and police officers from the Xinhua District Department and the Shigang Street Station arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Yuxia and Mr. Zhao Tongxiao. They were detained at the Shijiazhuang City Second Detention Centre. The 610 Office agents plotted against Mr. Zhao by first arresting him and then using fabricated evidence to falsely charge him, claiming that Mr. Zhao had tapped into the satellite TV system and used it to broadcast Falun Gong films.

"In early June, 2005, I was detained at the Yangyuan Brainwashing Centre. Within a few days I started to have headaches, and my vision was blurred, my mind became hazy, my thoughts were befuddled, and my memory faded. In late 2006 the symptoms got worse. I would fall even when I was sitting or lying. I was unable to keep my balance. Besides that, all my teeth ached and began to fall out, and my left foot hurt severely. Sometimes I did not even have the strength to hold a book. Not knowing what was happening, I simply endured everything. When I recently read on the Minghui website [Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net] that officials at the Yuangyuan Brainwashing Centre mixed unknown toxic substances into practitioners' food, and recalling what had happened to me before, I realised that I had also been poisoned. Before that, my memory and IQ were both very good."

Mr. Meng Xuetao went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000 and was sent to Xishanping Forced Labour Camp for one year. While imprisoned, Meng Xuetao never gave up practising Falun Dafa. As a result, he was often kept in solitary confinement. One of his vertebra was permanently damaged from being beaten. His mother visited him and found him tied to a bed with tubes in his body. He looked old and drawn. Since Meng Xuetao persisted in his belief, his term was extended for one year. Unable to bear the pressure of his son being incarcerated, Meng Xuetao's father suffered from a stroke and died while Mr. Meng was in the labour camp. In 2007, Mr. Meng was reported as he was handing out leaflets exposing the persecution and again imprisoned in the labour camp for the third time. His mother was not allowed to see him.

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Hu Zengxiang was around 70 years old. On December 29th, 2007, police arrested him from his home, ransacked his house, and took away two thousand yuan cash. They said they were searching for a Falun Dafa radio station. Later, the police tried to cover up and spread a rumour saying that they "did not arrest Mr. Hu Zengxiang, for he had escaped." In fact, they tortured him seven days in detention. When he was released home, his feet were swollen to 5 inches in diameter, and one of his toes fell off as result of frostbite, his collarbone was broken, and he could not take care of himself. He was first detained by the Village officials, and they did not allow anyone to visit. Mr. Hu was eventually found dead in his home.

On March 9th, 2007, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Guizhi was followed by police from the Pingshan District Station when distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and arrested. The police also ransacked her home and took her personal belongings. On June 11th, 2007, the Pingshan District Court sentenced Ms. Zhang. Her family saw her being carried by two people into the courtroom, for she was very weak. The court requested money from her family, saying it was for her medical treatment. They took Ms. Zhang to the Liaoning Province Women's Prison in Shenyang City. Around February 7th, 2008 the Prison Administration called her family to pick her up. Her family took her directly to the hospital for emergency treatment, but she died on February 13th 2008.

On April 15th, 2005, police burst into the property where Ms. Liu Peizhen and her husband were living and arrested them both. They also seized Ms. Liu's computer and her materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained in the Nanshan District Detention Centre. In November 2005, the Nanshan District Court held a trial for Ms. Liu. The following April, Ms. Liu was sentenced to eight years in prison for distributing materials exposing the persecution. She is currently being held at the Guangzhou City Women's Prison. It is impossible to express how much pain and torture Ms. Liu has suffered during the last three years. According to her family, Ms. Liu is almost blind, so she is unable to read anything. She is also unable to care for herself without assistance.

On October 26th, 1999, Ms. He went to Beijing to use her personal experience to explain the facts of Falun Gong to the government. She told those in charge, "Falun Gong is a very good qigong practice that provides an effective way of curing illnesses and improving peoples' health. The practice of Falun Gong has brought many benefits and absolutely no harm to society." After she said this to the officials, she was detained for 34 days in the county police station and had 2,400 yuan extorted from her. In September 2004, police raided her home and sent her to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, where she was persecuted for 372 days.

Ms. Zhang Lianying has been detained in forced labour camps many times for practising Falun Dafa. She recounts: "I was strangled nine times. Twice the policemen strangled my neck until I fainted and the other seven times they used ropes to strangle me until I fainted. Neither time was I sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. Once I was so severely beaten that both sides of my brain bled profusely. Once I was injected with an unknown drug so that I fell into a coma and my eyesight was blurred."

On October 1st, 2001, I went to a rural village to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution. Someone turned me in to the authorities and I was arrested by police. When they had detained me at the rehabilitation centre for over four months, I started a hunger strike in February 2002. On the fifth day of my hunger strike, Cheng Yeshang, the Chair of the centre, came with a drug addict to force feed me. He told that person to put salt in the powdered soy milk. He then pulled my hair with one hand and used his other hand to force open my mouth with two chopsticks. Then he told that person to pour the food into my mouth. My gums were bleeding, yet he didn't stop. Later, I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was on an IV. The doctor looked at my eyes and said to Cheng, "She won't die." The next morning I was taken to the Lanzhou Forced Labour Camp.

On January 26th, 2008, police took Ms. Lu Xueqin, a Falun Dafa practitioner, into custody in the Liaoyuan Street Station in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, where she remains to this day. They confined Ms. Lu in an ice cold cell, forced her sit on a hard bench, and did not allow her to sleep for eight days. When she was not very clear-minded due to exhaustion, officers forced her to fingerprint a statement whose content she was not aware of, then threatened her with this fabricated fact. Officers brutally beat her three times, putting her in a critical condition with all sorts of symptoms. Ms. Lu's heart and kidneys are severely damaged and in life threatening condition. Her family requested her release so that she could be hospitalised, but officers at the Liaoyuan Street Station are very vicious and have refused.

On August 30th, 2002, half a dozen police officers arrested Mr. Wei and his wife, Ms. Liu, because both practise Falun Dafa. The police took the couple to the police station, handcuffed Mr. Wei to a heating pipe and locked them in a room for interrogation. The couple refused to answer questions. Policeman Li lashed them with a one metre-long seven-wire twist whip. As a result, Mr. Wei's back looked like a web of bloodstains, and Ms. Liu's back was also bleeding. Together the couple had 8100 yuan extorted from them before they were released. They were detained again in 2003 and 2007 and were only released after they were fined.

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Liu Quanguo was sentenced to forced labour twice and served his terms in the Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp. He became very weak due to the abuse he was subjected to in the camp. The Fifth Ward guard Zhao Shuang once said, "You will die as soon as you are released." Mr. Liu was released in the autumn of 2006. He became weaker and weaker, coughing nonstop, and had the symptoms of tuberculosis. Soon he lost consciousness and died on February 16th, 2008 at age 50.

On January 29th, 2008, the Bao'an District Court in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province held a secret trial and sentenced Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Chen Jinshu from Hong Kong to six years in prison for sending out Falun Dafa books. Mr. Chen's family has filed an appeal. Mr. Chen's older sister in Shenzhen accepted an interview in tears. She said, "My brother is innocent. He is not guilty of any crime just because he practises Falun Gong." The court fabricated evidence to frame her brother and accused him of a case that was closed in 2005.

Ms. Liu Shuqin and her daughter Wang Bo were detained for several months and then sentenced to four and five years in prison. On June 15th, 2007, Ms. Liu and her daughter, both Falun Gong practitioners, were both taken to the Hebei Province Women's Prison. After enduring many years of mistreatments and persecution, Ms. Liu Shuqin has become very weak, has high blood pressure, and heart disease. In the six months of brainwashing sessions, guards forced her to stand facing the wall every day, from breakfast time to 2 a.m. They did not allow her to close her eyes. If she did they would kick her. Ms. Liu continually resisted the torture, then the guards ordered other prisoners to drag her on the floor, back and forth. Guard Zhao said, "Prisoners and guards may mistreat Falun Dafa practitioners without any limit."

On January 16th, 2007, several police broke into Mr. Leng Fuyun's home. They seized a computer, a printer, a paper cutting machine and some other materials without a warrant. In addition, they took Mr. Leng Fuyun, his wife Ms. Jiang Zhongmei, and their son Mr. Leng Jingtao into custody. They were detained in the Jingyu County Detention Centre. Mr. Leng has been detained in the detention centre for more than one year. During this period, he has been sent to the hospital many times for treatment due to injuries he received during his persecution. The guards told Mr. Leng's relatives to pay for his treatment. The relatives have asked to see Mr. Leng, but have been rejected without reason.

Ms. Fan Shude, is in her 50s. Since she practised Falun Gong her heart disease and other health problems vanished. On July 20th, 1999, when Jiang Zemin's group, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] began persecuting Falun Gong, Ms. Fan went to Beijing to appeal for justice. She has been arrested four times, and persecuted in forced labour camps twice. In Wanjia Forced Labour Camp she was injected with unknown drugs by the guards and criminals causing her frequent nausea and dizziness. In August 2007 Ms. Fan went to the police station to ask for the release of a fellow practitioner. Police attacked her. The attack was so vicious that Ms. Fan suffered heart and brain damage. She then suffered a relapse of her old diseases. She has endured torture that has brought her near the point of death.
