73-year-old Ms. Chen Ling was unable to live a peaceful life. Persons from the residential committee often interrogated her, "Did you go out today? Did you go to his or her home?" Residential committee Party secretary Ji asked her, "Is Falun Gong good, or is the Chinese Communist Party good?" Ms. Chen Ling was held in a detention centre five years ago, owing to her practising Falun Gong. They handcuffed her, forced her to be photographed and provide her fingerprints. The mental torment she suffered was enormous. Her teeth all fell out and her hair turned white. Four generations in her family were affected. Her husband was frightened so badly that he could not eat anything. Her four-year-old old grandson got sick from fear of the police. Her neighbours said indignantly, "Such a nice lady was arrested and her home raided, just because of practising Falun Gong!"

Ms. Li Xiumin, a Falun Gong practitioner from Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province was arrested and has been detained by the local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities for eight months. She is now suffering from a tumour in her uterus. Li Xiumin was sentenced to five years of imprisonment by judge Ding Hong from Xinhua District Court, with the 610 Office controlling the court behind the scenes. Li Xiumin appealed to the Shijiazhuang Intermediate Court. The judge of the No.2 Criminal Court, Wang Yingchen, has been refusing the request for Li Xiumin to obtain a guarantor, forcing her to await trial while in custody, despite the fact that her life is in danger with each passing day.

On the evening of March 4th, 2005, practitioner Ms. Ning Yan in her 50s, was arrested in NanLagu, Hailin City, by local police. Because Ms. Ning refused to give her name and address, the Hainan police chief beat her without restraint and handcuffed her to an iron chair for a whole night [Note: Because of the Chinese Communist Party's system of implicating and harassing Dafa practitioners' family members, friends and work associates, practitioners often refuse to give their name and address when they are arrested]. The next day, a police officer came to work and beat her again. Seeing that Ms. Ning was determined and would not yield, he used a glass bottle to pound Ms. Ning's head until only the neck of the bottle was left in the police officer's hand.

On December 19th, 2007, Dafa practitioner Ms. Gai Xiulong saw local officials defacing a Falun Gong poster exposing the persecution in front of her house. Ms. Gai went over to persuade them not to do it. They then called the police and six or seven officers took Ms. Gai into custody. Police chief Cui Jianming used an electric baton to shock Ms. Gai in the face, legs, neck and other sensitive areas for nearly ten minutes. During that time, police officer Sun Libin punched Ms. Gai in the head four times. Ms. Gai was handcuffed for more than five hours before the police took them off.

On January 15th, 2008, the chief of police and head of the 610 Office in Baishan City, Jilin Province, instructed eight policemen to drive two police vehicles to Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lin Daihong's home, and break into her home to arrest her for the second time. Ms. Lin had previously already been tortured to the point of critical condition in Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp and had not yet recovered. She was taken directly to the labour camp again.

In July 1999, my mother couldn't stand Jiang Zemin's, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime's slander of Falun Gong and we decided to go to Beijing to appeal. We arrived in Beijing on July 22nd, 1999, and went to the Appeals Office. The officers didn't allow us to go in. We went to Tiananmen Square on December 16th. My mother sat down and shouted "Falun Dafa is Good!" An officer kicked her fiercely. Her leg was broken and she couldn't stand up. The officers arrested us and sent us back to Jiaozhou City. After they took us back, I was locked in my workplace, my husband was locked up in a nursing home. My son was locked up in a psychiatric hospital, and my two daughters were locked up in the Fu'an Police Station. My mother was left alone at home with a broken leg and no one to take care of her. In 2001 I was arrested again. Traumatised, my mother's mental situation worsened. She cried and cried, wanting me to be released. She died in May 2002.

Prison doctor Gao Rizheng of the Bayuquan District Detention Centre in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province ruthlessly tortures Falun Dafa practitioners with injections of harmful drugs. Gao Rizheng tortured Ms. Li Fengmei from 2003 to 2004. The guards brutally beat her many times, resulting in injuries to her head and left eardrum. She also suffered from internal bleeding and tuberculosis during her detention. The guards also force-fed Ms. Li Fengmei through her nose twice. The second time, they inserted the tube forcefully, resulting in internal injuries. The tube was covered with blood when it was pulled out. Soon after that, she suffered from frequent, acute stomachaches.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Hongzhi, around 40 years old, is detained in the Third Division of the labour camp. Instructor Wang Yonghong ordered people to monitor her and torment her by forcing her to stand for long periods of time. She was not allowed to sleep during this time. By January 14th, 2008, Ms. Liang had stood for 20 days. Her legs were so swollen that the skin peeled. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Xiuhua was arrested and sent to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in 2005. During the past two years, Ms. Yu has been severely persecuted. The guards strictly monitored her. She was not allowed to take a shower, change clothes or get enough to eat for long periods of time.

Lu Zhiguo, a Falun Gong practitioner in his 50s, is from Chifeng City. Around July 2006, he was detained on the fourth floor of the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp. In the summer, Lu Zhiguo was forced to wear heavy clothes. The door and windows were tightly closed with the electric heater turned on. The volume of the speakers was set to the maximum. Lu Zhiguo was tortured this way for more than a week. Zhang Ting, is a fifty-five-year old Falun Gong practitioner from Chifeng. He was once cuffed and chained to a bed for nine days. Zhang Ting was released only when his blood pressure became seriously high.

On January 25th, policemen from the National Security Bureau of the Jidong County Police Department, Heilongjiang Province, burst into the home of 36-year-old Mr. Zhang Minghui. Disregarding the safety of the older people and a baby, who was just a couple of months old, they grabbed personal property and took Mr. Zhang away to the police station. Mr. Zhang's wife saw her husband being humiliated and beaten by the police and tried to help him, but the police officers stopped her.

According to sources, Ms. Mu Chunmei was tortured during a hunger strike protesting the persecution. The guards and the labour camp doctors injured her teeth by prying her mouth open. For the more than 50 days she was on the hunger strike, the guards continued this brutal torture, trying to force her to give up her belief in Falun Gong. When her family came to visit her, they were usually not allowed to see her. When they sometimes actually got to see her, they were only allowed to visit for a few minutes.

Ms. Zhang Yulan, in her 50s, was arrested while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in March 2002. Later she was imprisoned and tortured in Nankaiqu Detention Centre and then sent to Tianjin City Xiqing Detention Centre. She was sentenced to eight years by the Xiqing Court and she has since been imprisoned in the fourth ward of Tianjin Women's Prison. In the prison, the guards brutally tortured her. Due to long term persecution, Ms. Zhang's illnesses have recurred. Her health is now poor and she cannot not take care of herself.

In September, 2001, I was taken into custody by police officers and sent to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp for two years. During that period, I was never allowed to sleep on a bed. While in the labour camp, I requested to practise the exercises. As a result, Wang Naimin, the director of the No. 1 Division, strapped me to a chair for about 10 days. Later, I was tied to some hooks that kept my arms outstretched for two months. At the end of 2002, the so-called "helping and education team" came to the labour camp and schemed to "transform" steadfast practitioners. In reality, they were there to cruelly torture practitioners. This time, my hands were hung up with my feet dangling below me. I was hung up for five days, then locked onto the heating pump in the hallway for about a month.

47-year-old Ms. Ma Liqin is a Falun Gong practitioner from Heilongjiang Province. She was beaten into a vegetative state at the Beishan No.2 Detention Centre in Qitaihe City in March 2002 by policeman Yin Zhongliang. Yin kicked her with leather shoes and knocked her head against the wall. Ma lost consciousness immediately. The police thought she was faking it and kept punching her in the face. At present she is still in a vegetative state. She eats only when fed, is incontinent, and her family needs to take care of her around the clock. Her pension is being used to pay her medical bills.

Ms. Song Zhezi, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2004. Her shop became bankrupt and her money in the bank was frozen. Ms. Song suffered a mental breakdown due to brainwashing and torture from the detention of more than three years in Hunan Province Women's Prison. Her daughter, Ms.Yuan Donglan, who is 30 years old, was forced to become destitute and homeless. Her husband, Mr. Liu Xiangling (also a practitioner) was surrounded and attacked by three plainclothes policemen in a hospital in Changsha City and was taken away.

Practitioners are forced to perform hard labour in Wuyuan Forced Labour Camp. For example, in the heat of the summer, they have to cut reed grass for four to five hours a day in the heavily polluted water canal. Educational section workers attempt to force practitioners to give up their beliefs, and write the so-called Guarantee Statement to renounce Falun Gong, "Regret Statement," etc. Practitioners who refuse are transferred to other teams to be humiliated and beaten. Even 70-year-old practitioners are brutally beaten.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Guo Baoshan was arrested in November 2007 for telling people the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong and bringing a verbal complaint against former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime head Jiang Zemin, [instigator of the persecution]. Mr. Guo is now detained at the Baixi Detention Centre in Yibin County.

Mr. Chang Xianlu went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Dafa and was arrested and persecuted several times later. He was taken to a hotel room (this was one of the places commonly used to secretly torture Falun Gong practitioners at that time) and strapped him to the "tiger bench." Police not only shocked him with electric batons (his genitals were injured from the electric shocks), one officer also stabbed his hand with chopsticks, drawing blood. The same officer then used pliers to crush his toes. As he was doing this the policeman said, "I'm going to squash them flat from top to bottom, and then squash them from left to right," causing all of his toes to turn purple. Another officer added, "Killing a Falun Gong practitioner doesn't count, since Jiang Zemin has given us a death quota."

In addition to electric shocks, beatings, and forced feedings of hot mustard extract, etc., police officers from the Jilin City Detention Centre and the police dog training centre have come up with a new way to brutally torture Falun Gong practitioners. They fill plastic sacks with ground hot peppers, then cover the practitioners' heads with them. This is a very vicious form of torture. Ms. Mu Ping has been tortured ever since her arrest in November 2006. In the police dog training centre, the police force-fed her with mustard extract and injured her throat. The medical doctors proceeded to do surgery on her without using an anaesthetic. It was very brutal. One of her arms has been disabled due to the beatings.

Mei Jianzhu was a retired teacher who was arrested as a result of informing people about the true nature of Falun Gong and distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. Four years ago she died as a result of persecution at the Liu'an City Detention Centre. A young teacher, Zhang Xianqiong, was persecuted three years ago. As a result, he developed a critical illness and died in his home.

I was taken by police to the Daqing City Detention Centre, because I refused to give up Falun Gong. I was kept on an "iron chair" for two days. Using the enticement of reducing their jail terms, the police instigated criminal inmates to beat me. Seven to eight held me down at a time. Prison doctor Qi Hong, who was very vicious in torturing Falun Gong practitioners, force-fed me through my nose. When the tubes were taken out, there was blood everywhere in my mouth and nose. A male prisoner kicked my lower back until it was difficult for me to breathe. A dozen prisoners kicked my upper body before they sat on my lower back. They pinched me all over, leaving black and blue bruises everywhere. There were bumps on the top of my head, and my feet were beaten purple.

35-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Li Li was from Lishu County, Jilin Province. In January 2001, Ms. Li went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of the good name of Falun Gong. She was arrested in August. She was then detained in the Fangshan Detention Centre in Beijing. According to detention centre employees, she was later detained in a room at a restaurant, where six "staff members" tried to force her to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She was brutally beaten. After six months of brutal torture, Ms. Li died on February 1st, 2002.

Fu Zengqi's whole family practises Falun Gong. Since the persecution in China started on July 20th, 1999, Fu Zengqi's family has suffered mental torment, physical abuse and financial deprivation. 610 Office agents barged into the Fu family residence on June 17th, 2001 and the whole family was incarcerated. Fu Zengqi suffered verbal and physical abuse in prison. Four perpetrators lifted him up and threw him to the floor and handcuffed his arms behind his back. During his detention period, the abusers tortured Fu Zengqi was so severely that he lost consciousness. Criminal inmate Li Jun beat Mr. Fu so severely that he became lame, and had difficulty walking.

Xu Yushan was arrested when police found Falun Gong books in his possession. He was severely tortured in a forced labour camp. He recounts, "After they confirmed my stance toward Falun Gong the guards said, It seems you are not afraid of death. We will not let you die, but will make you live in a state worse than death. We just want to play with you. When we are tired of playing we will make you completely disabled. Then we let you go home and die at home several days later.'"

In January 2008, after hiring a lawyer in Beijing, the family of Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Jin, who had been arrested by police officers in Shanghai, was threatened and harassed by officers from the Beijing National Security Team. They were warned that they must not contact any lawyers, or otherwise, they would "create a lot trouble for themselves." Ms. Liu Jin's family hired a well-known human rights lawyer in China, Mo Shaoping, as her defence lawyer. Soon afterward, Ms. Liu's relatives in Beijing were harassed and threatened by the local police.

Since 2003 in the Shenyang No. 1 Prison, at least 40 people have died from unnatural deaths; some were starved to death, some died from boiling water poured onto their bodies, some were unable to stand the torture and committed suicide, and more prisoners died due to being given no treatment for their illnesses. For example, small lesions on the skin develop into more serious conditions which eventually become incurable, often resulting in the prisoner's death. However, the prison officials stated that the causes of death of all of these people were due to normal illnesses. Many families are not allowed to see the corpses of their dead relatives.

The prison guards would interrogate the practitioners, while a gang of "collaborators" would threaten the practitioners and force them to wear the prison uniform and name tags. They also try to convince the practitioners that they had broken the law and admit guilt. They would also bring in prisoners to monitor the practitioners. The prisoners are charged with subjecting the practitioners to sleep deprivation, denying them the chance to go to the toilet or drink water, and forcing them to stand for long periods of time. The practitioners often stage persecution-protest hunger strikes, but they are then force-fed and beaten by the guards.

Ms. Liang Weiping started practising Falun Gong in 1998 and had regained her health through the practice. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, police officers arrested her. They searched her and took her to the police station to persecute her. She was so frightened that she passed out and was taken to a hospital. After being unable to get any information from her, the police officers ransacked her home. In the following years of the CCP authorities' persecution and torture, Ms. Liang had been harmed both mentally and physically. She died on September 7th, 2002 at 65 years of age.

On October 21st, 2007, a group of police officers broke into Mr. Yuan Yizhi's home and ransacked it. They took away his personal belongings, which included a desktop computer, a notebook computer, a printer, a scanner, a fax machine and two mobile phones. Him and his wife were then taken away by force, and detained at the Yaojia Detention Centre. The police officers ransacked their home again several times and took away anything that was valuable. Mr. Yuan's two-year-old son had to be taken care of by his aunt. When he woke up in the middle of the night and realised that it was not his mum lying next to him, he would cry loudly. During the detention of his parents the boy had been hospitalised several times due to an illness caused by stress and anxiety.

On January 4th, 2008, Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Huang Shuyun and Ms. Zhou Yuying went to Dashu Village in Shuiquliu Town to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution. They were reported and then arrested by local police officers. They were detained in Nanshan Detention Centre and are both in critical condition due to being brutally treated. Ms. Huang appeared to have seizures and was frothing at the mouth. Ms. Zhou passed out due to heart problems. They were both rushed to the Shulan City Hospital on January 24th, for emergency treatment, and then taken back to Nanshan Detention Centre the same day. On January 25th, Ms. Zhou passed out again, and they could not find her pulse or measure her blood pressure. She is still being treated in the Shulan City Hospital.

Mr. Shen Hailong, a practitioner from Anshan City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment because he participated in broadcasting messages exposing the persecution of Falun Gong via satellite. In prison, he has been brutally tortured. When Mr. Shen Hailong was arrested, his child was just two years old. His wife was in poor health and had to rely on his parents to subsist. His child would often cry in front of his picture.

In the latter half of 2007, under direct orders from the Huaihua City 610 Office authorities held another brainwashing session to brutally persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The following are some of the persecution methods used against practitioners in attempts to force them to renounce Falun Gong: forcing practitioners to watch videotapes and cartoons slandering Falun Gong, holding meetings attacking Falun Gong, and holding classes to spread lies to slander Falun Gong. They also used threats to force Falun Gong practitioners to write the "three statements" to give up their practice. They beat, handcuffed, hung up and verbally abused practitioners who remained steadfast in their belief.

Former Tongliao Elementary School teacher Ms. Wang Ying, Ms. Wan Xiuying's daughter, was tortured by being hung up by the handcuffs, beaten with clubs, shocked with two high-voltage electric batons, and beaten by multiple people simultaneously. She was eventually crippled by the abuse she suffered. A CT scan indicated that she had contracted myocarditis, and the torture she suffered also resulted in her loss of hearing. She was released only when she was on the verge of death, even though she had been crippled for a long period of time.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Shujun, 47, went to Beijing to appeal to the government several times. Because she tried to inform people about the true nature of Falun Gong, she was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison. Ms. Zhang was arrested again in March 2006 and charged with producing leaflets exposing the persecution. The Qingyunpu District Court in Nanchang City sentenced her to ten years in prison. She endured numerous brutal tortures while she was incarcerated, and her friends and family were not allowed to visit her. On January 4th, 2008, Ms. Zhang was paralysed and in critical condition. Guards called her family and instructed them to pick her up from the prison hospital. She was thus "bailed out for medical treatment" on the verge of death. Only 16 days later, Ms. Zhang died in her home at around 3 a.m. on January 20th, 2008.

Ms. Hou Youfang was a physics teacher. She was persecuted to death in Gansu Province No. 1 Labour Camp, on November 29th, 2002; she was only 48 years old. She had been arrested for speaking out for justice for Falun Gong and sentenced to two years of forced labour. An official announced: "No matter what you do, make sure you keep her in the labour camp." A guard at the labour camp, instigated other inmates into beating and verbally abusing Hou Youfang. The labour camp guards used all types of torture on her. Ms. Hou Youfang died on November 29th, 2002, as a result of torture and relentless persecution. Fellow practitioners were witnesses that Ms. Hou Youfang had been beaten so severely that her arms and ribs and pelvis were fractured.

Former Beijing resident Ms. Liu Guifu was sent to forced labour camps twice for her belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." With the help of many kind people and international pressure, she was released on August 31st, 2007, and is now overseas. When Ms. Liu Guifu was detained in the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp, the guards forced her to take unidentified drugs, did not allow her to sleep, made her sit in one position for more than 20 hours at a time, forced her to stand for long periods of time, and beat and mentally tortured her. Her daughter in the U.S. tried every way she could to rescue her mother, and many Americans helped her. On August 16th, 2005, after numerous requests, her family was finally allowed to see her. They could not even recognise her. Her weight had dropped from more than 70 kg to less than 50 kg. Her hair was totally white, her face full of wrinkles, and her movements were very slow.

In the first half of 2007, the Chongqing Women's Labour Camp trained "personal monitors" (drug addicts assigned to persecute Falun Gong practitioners) in techniques for choking practitioners and striking practitioners' heads with their fists. The camp authorities even tested the criminal inmates on this training. When all else is quiet at night, one can always hear noise from the beatings in the labour camp. Falun Gong practitioner Zhao Fengxia (about 30 years old) could not speak for a couple of months after being beaten. Her facial expression was very stiff and awkward. Although she can talk now, her speech is very slow and slurred.

Ms. Ni Shuzhi, 60, began cultivating Falun Gong in 1998. In May 2002, Ms. Ni was arrested from her home and sentenced to five years in prison. She was detained in the hospital ward because of a physical condition, but she was still tortured in all sorts of ways. At the end of 2006, she had a nosebleed and asked for some cotton balls from the prison nurse. The cotton ball she was given had a very strong odour. Soon afterward, she could not talk and developed a terrible cough and diarrhoea. After she was released in May 2007, the doctors diagnosed her with cirrhosis, ascites due to cirrhosis, heart failure, pharyngitis, and inadequate blood flow to the brain and the heart. She died on January 19th, 2008.

The deaths of 150 Falun Gong practitioners as a result of persecution were verified through non-governmental channels in 2007, and 123 of those deaths took place in 2007. Among them, women practitioners and practitioners over the age of 50 each accounted for 53.3 per cent of the cases. During the eight-and-a-half years of persecution between July 20th, 1999, and December 31st, by the Chinese Communist regime, a total of 3,121 Falun Gong practitioners' deaths have been verified.

Ms. Yu Zhiying was a 71 Falun Dafa practitioner. At around 9:00 p.m. on October 12th, 2007, domestic security agent Liang Shibing (male), policewoman Deng Hongying, and more than eight Internet police rushed into Ms. Yu Zhiying's home. They ransacked her place, taking Falun Dafa books, a computer, a printer, a copy machine, and other items. They then arrested Ms. Yu, and took her to the Jiangbei District Detention Centre for a one-year forced labour term. After less than a month in detention, Ms. Yu's entire body appeared swollen, and she was very weak, with diarrhoea and vomiting. Fearing they would be held responsible if she died, the detention centre administration hurriedly took her home on November 9th, 2008.

Under orders from Warden Wang Kai, inmates tortured practitioners in their cells: they beat practitioners with a wooden bed board and hit their faces with slippers. Liu Jingzhou's face got swollen and disfigured from this treatment. Zhang Fa, a 60-year-old practitioner, had an attack of high blood pressure as a result of the torture. Gu Qingsong's leg was broken. One practitioner was beaten until he fell to the floor, but the inmates wouldn't stop abusing him, saying that he was faking. Gong Wenyi was forced to sit on an Iron Chair for 14 days while he was on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Huang Fujun was arrested by police on July 24th, 2007. During the subsequent detention at Acheng First Detention Centre, he was violently force-fed while on a protest hunger strike. Later, Mr. Huang became unconscious as a result of the continued forced-feedings. In early November 2007, the detention centre rushed him to the hospital for resuscitation. During the hospitalisation, the guards still handcuffed and shackled him to the hospital bed. On November 3rd, 2007, Mr. Huang was dying and he was still unconscious. Seeing that he was about to die, the guards let his family take him back home. Three days following his release, Mr. Huang Fujun passed away at home.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhao Rongcai, 40 years old, was arrested on May 25th, 2006 for practising Falun Gong. The police sent her to a brainwashing centre in Wangcun Forced Labour Camp, Zibo City, Shandong Province. Ms. Zhao went on a hunger strike and broke the DVD used in the brainwashing. During the hunger strike of over one month she was harshly and cruelly force-fed. The torture changed her from an originally very healthy Dafa practitioner into a person very close to death. In early August of 2006, the police again secretly transferred Ms. Zhao, who was then in a coma, to Jurong Women's Forced Labour Camp in Jiangsu Province. On the document sentencing Ms. Zhao to two years of forced labour, there was no stated reason for the sentence, nor was Ms. Zhao's signature on the document. She is said to be very weak and emaciated.

The Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp is still holding over 150 female Falun Gong practitioners. It's been reported that Falun Gong practitioner Liu Qiaozhen has been on a hunger strike for over three months and is now critically ill. Practitioner Qiu Liying attended a trial hearing for practitioner Li Qiumin on September 26th, 2007. Qiu Liying was taken to the Hebei Province Brainwashing Centre the next work day, transferred to a labour camp after ten days, sentenced to one year of forced labour, and she is currently detained in Brigade No. 1 of the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp.

On the evening of June 22nd, 2007, the police arrested four family members of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Guomin. Mr. Yang was detained at Etouwan Brainwashing Centre in Wuhan City for more than two months, and then sentenced to a forced labour camp for one year. Later they arrested an additional family member. Mr. Yang's elderly mother, who did not practise Falun Gong, committed suicide due to sadness and despair.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Sun Jinghua, who was in her forties, lived in Changchun City, Jilin Province. For the past eight years of persecution, she was forced to live a homeless life to avoid being arrested or had to move often to avoid persecution. As a result of torture in detention, and her difficult life due to the ongoing persecution, Ms. Sun became emaciated, with localised swelling and bleeding. She died on January 5th, 2008.

A family of four in Chaling County, Hunan Province has experienced brutal persecution since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched its persecution of Falun Gong in July of 1999. The husband has passed away and the wife and two surviving daughters have been repeatedly imprisoned over the past eight years. A happy family was devastated just because they wanted to live according to the standards of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance".

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Jin was taken away by the Fengxian District, Shanghai City police, known for its evil ways. This is the second time she has been persecuted since she was sent to prison for four years. Now she's detained in the Fengxian District Detention Centre. Fengxian Police Station and Haiwan Police Substation participated in this action together. They sent two police cars to abduct Liu Jin, and ransacked her home so that it looked like a robbery took place, stealing 20,000 yuan. They also took other private property like a laptop, printer--including IDs, a bank card etc. They even took the battery from her family car.

For many years, the No. 4 Team of Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province has been the place where older Falun Dafa practitioners are persecuted. I am in my 60s. Around March 20th, 2006, I was ordered to take a blood test. I was thinking then that I was not a sick person since I'm a practitioner. I knew I didn't need that blood test. Besides, a blood test does not require that big an amount of blood. I thought, isn't this another disguised way to persecute us? Also, when we were first arrested and sent to the forced labour camp, we already had a thorough physical examination and blood work. I told them, "I'm very healthy and I don't need that test." Six policemen pushed me to the ground. They stepped on me. Some twisted my arms. Some stepped on my back, and I couldn't breath because of this. They striped my clothes off of my arm and took my blood by force.

Ms. Li Wenxia, 47, did the Falun Gong exercises with fellow practitioners at home, but they were arrested and detained in Tanggu District Detention Centre for nine months. During this nine months of detention, Ms. Li was subjected to numerous tortures. She was forced into slave labour every day, and made to eat very dirty non-nutritious food that caused many of the inmates to have diarrhoea. Because she was a Falun Dafa practitioner, she was not allowed to sleep on a bed, but instead made to sleep on the wet cement floor. Cold water was constantly poured on her, and she slept in about an inch of water. She was also constantly cursed and beaten for not renouncing Falun Dafa. Ms. Li became severely injured mentally, and physically weak, unable to take care of herself. She died in December 2006.
