On August 2nd, 2007, Chengdu resident and Falun Dafa practitioner Jiang Zonglin was arrested. His whereabouts is still unknown. Both Fuqin Police Department of Chengdu City and the State Protection Brigade of Jinniu Public Security Sub-bureau are denying any responsibility. They refused to notify Jiang's family members of his current situation. The Fuqin Police and the National Security Brigade of Jinniu Public Security Sub-bureau are, however, most likely involved in this situation.

Dafa practitioners Ms. Qu Xiaotong, about thirty years old, and Ms. Qu Beibei, who is in her twenties, are sisters. On June 24th, 2004, while having a meal together in a restaurant, they were savagely arrested by several dozen police. The practitioners were tortured by extremely cruel means in an attempt to extract “confessions.” This included being injected with drugs that damage one’s central nervous system. Qu Beibei's neck was shocked with electric batons, and she was punched, kicked, and tortured to the extreme. After she started a hunger strike to protest the persecution, she was savagely force-fed. Qu Xiaotong and Qu Beibei suffered from tremendous persecution after being imprisoned in Jinan Provincial Women's Prison. Since the summer of 2006, the prison has not allowed family visits and they have not been heard from since.

Torture-related deaths of eight Falun Gong practitioners were verified in October 2007. Seven of them died in September 2007, one died in October 2007. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Jiang Zemin's, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime began the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, 3101 deaths due to torture or police brutality have been verified. The actual number of deaths is far more than that.

Officials from the Public Security Office and National Security Office, broke into the home of practitioner Mr. Jiang Zonglin, on August 2nd, 2007. Mr. Jiang, an architecture engineer in his late fifties, was handcuffed and taken away, without the officers saying a word. Jiang's wife and daughter were also taken. It's been several months since Jiang went missing. When his family asked his whereabouts an officer said, "We took him his clothes, which means he is still around."

Ms. Qiu Liying is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. On September 26th, 2007, Ms. Qiu sat in the audience in a trial against a fellow Falun Gong practitioner named Li Xiumin (female). The next morning, the local police arrested her and took her to Sifang Police Station. Later the police and officials pried open Ms. Qiu Liying's door and looted her personal belongings including her PC. On the morning of September 28th, 2007, the police transferred Ms. Qiu to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Qiu has been on a hunger strike to protest the unjust detention for eight days at the time of this writing. Her health is in jeopardy.

Since Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] and his wicked gang started the ruthless persecution of Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Zhang Mingfa and his family frequently suffered from harassment of various kinds from the local town government. They threatened and intimated Mr. Zhang's family, confiscated Falun Gong books, and extorted money from them in the name of fines. Mr. Zhang Mingfa has been arrested several times between 1999 and 2005, and repeatedly fined for a total of 2,750 yuan because he explained to people the facts about Falun Gong and China's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Traumatised by the persecution and overcome with grief, Mr. Zhang's elderly mother died in the winter of 2003.

Mr. Wu Song, 43, was a Falun Dafa practitioner and the Wushe Village Chief in Pingjiang Township, Rongjiang County. He was arrested in 2005 for practising Falun Dafa and was sentenced to two years of forced labour, which he served in Zhongba Forced Labour Camp. He was tortured in the camp, causing him to suffer from stomachaches and intestinal bleeding. He was near death. The camp administration allowed his family to pick him up at the beginning of June 2007 in order to escape being held responsible for his death. Mr. Wu Song died on October 23rd, 2007. His father, in his 70s; his wife; and his son are without resources.

Mr. Fei Zhangjin, a Falun Dafa practitioner in his 40's, was sentenced to three years in jail for his belief. He was sent to Suzhou Prison in September 2005. The prison sent him to a brainwashing centre and forced him to go through brainwashing sessions. The police ordered inmates to beat Mr. Fei using wooden sticks. For over 20 days, the sounds of wood hitting flesh could be heard from very far away. In October 2005, officer Tang Chuanyou and others used high voltage batons to hit Mr. Fei for several days. Because Mr. Fei Zhangjin would not give up his belief, he was cruelly tortured by the guards time and time again, until he became very weak. He was taken to the inmate clinic on September 23rd, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. He died at 11:30 a.m. An eyewitness saw Mr. Fei's body placed in an ambulance. The body had turned blue.

Mr. Huang Fujun was arrested by police when distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Dafa in a village in July 2007. Police detained him for nearly four months in the detention centre. Mr. Huang went on a hunger strike to protest the long detention and was tortured with force-feeding. He lost consciousness and had difficulty breathing. A large area of his skin had festered. He had multiple injuries on his body. On October 31st, 2007, guards rushed him to hospital for resuscitation. He was unconscious, but the guards still handcuffed and shackled him onto the hospital bed. Finally, they agreed to release him on medical parole. He died at home on November 6th, 2007, only three days after returning home.

Besides physical suffering, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is widely using another form of persecution: Economic persecution.The 610 Office, local police station, and other government bureaus have seized massive amounts of wealth in the name of persecuting Falun Gong. This is how they usually operate: Arrest the practitioners and ransack their homes. Grab everything of value, including personal property and belongings. Put the practitioners into a brainwashing centre, the local police station, or detention centre. They force family members to hand over huge amounts of money by taking advantage of their fear that their loved ones will suffer. If the penalty is not paid, they may keep the practitioner in detention, torture him, or send him to a forced labour camp or prison. The authorities don't give receipts for the paid penalty, not even an IOU. All the money goes into their own pockets.

On October 17th, 2007, Ms. Huang Zhenglan was forcibly taken to the Changshou District Psychiatric Hospital by agents from the Changshou District 610 Office in Chongqing and the Changshou District Police Department. The doctors in the Psychiatric Section injected Ms. Huang with an unknown drug twice a day. Because Ms. Huang's family has been harassed by the police many times, they were too afraid to do anything to help her.

56-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Zhenjie has suffered severely during the past eight years of the persecution. She has been arrested several times, sentenced to forced labour, and tortured. Her daughter Ms. Dai Rui was sentenced to two years of forced labour; her younger brother Yu Zonghai, her sister-in-law and her sister were sentenced to prison. Her husband divorced her while she was in the labour camp.

Recently it was reported that Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ba Shuqun was arrested covertly by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and his status was unknown. On October 25th, Mr. Ba's wife, Ms. Jiang, was asked by police officers to sign an arrest warrant, in order to see her husband who was injured and had been away from her for over a year. Under pressure, she signed the warrant. Upon arriving, she was told that her husband was in Xinkang Prison hospital. When she got to the hospital, personnel demanded a 9,000 yuan "medical fee" from Ms. Jiang, indicating that Mr. Ba was seriously ill. At the time, the doctors refused to disclose Mr. Ba's condition. Ms. Jiang was so stressed about her husband that she needed to be hospitalised herself.

One of the tactics officials in detention centres use on detainees, including Falun Gong practitioners, is "sleep torture." One key element of "sleep torture" is packing the inmates together tightly. Detainees are only permitted to wear their shorts and are compelled to lie on their sides, each one holding the ankles of the person in front him. This means that each person has someone else's feet on either side of his head. When the cell heads are still not satisfied, they hit the detainees with their shoes and kick them hard while yelling out, "Get moving and get closer!" Once I was made to lie down close to an inmate who had a festering sore the size of a pigeon egg on the back of his leg. It is common for inmates to develop scabies or contagious skin diseases in China's detention centres.

Right after the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2007, 70-year-old Ms. Gu Xuemin suddenly disappeared. After searching for her, we discovered that police and people from the Chuanhui District 610 Office had collaborated with the Chuanhui District Court, which directly ordered the arrest of Gu Xuemin, and detained her in the Zhoukou Detention Centre. Three days later, they transferred Ms. Gu to the Xinxiang Women's Prison.

Ms. Wang Haohong was arrested several times by police because she practised Falun Gong. During her first detention, she was beaten and verbally abused when she refused to write a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong. The former Deputy Chief of the police station shocked Ms. Wang with a hand-cranked electric telephone generator. The shock was so great that she lost control of her bladder and wet herself. The chief of the police station forced Ms. Wang to stand under the burning sun during the hottest time of the day. They also extorted 2,000 yuan from Ms. Wang's husband. Since 2001 Ms. Wang went into hiding to avoid persecution, but was arrested again in September 2007.

On January 1st, 2002, Mr. Hou travelled to Tiananmen Square to appeal on behalf of Falun Dafa. But while there, the police arrested him and he was sent to the Public Security Bureau where criminals poured ice-cold water onto his body. In May 2002, he was sentenced to two years of forced labour at the Tumuji Labour Camp. Prison guard Zhang Yaguang threatened Mr. Hou, "We'll "transform" you--even if you refuse to do so, we'll force you. Even if we don't kill you, we'll strip you of three layers of skin." Zhang brutally beat him until his blood covered the ground and walls.

Practitioner Ms. Xie Fengting, 61 years old, upheld her faith after Jiang Zemin's regime began persecuting Falun Gong. One night in November 2000, police stormed into her home, punched Ms. Xie in the chest very hard. She fell down on the floor unconscious. They also took her husband into custody and cruelly beat him. Ms. Xie Fengting suffered a mental breakdown as a result. Finally, she died on February 9th, 2002, at the age of 61.

Ms. Sang Chunlian was abducted by Shouguang City police on September 24th, 2007. According to her account, in the police office, two policemen pressed her on the ground and forcibly pulled her hands behind her back, and then violently pushed her chin and wrung her neck backward. They continually slapped her face on both sides, wringing her ears in between. The policemen also stomped on her thighs and legs with their heavy leather shoes. They burned her elbows and hands with lighters and seriously blistered them. While carrying out these atrocities, the policemen exclaimed, "Tonight, we won't stop until your skin is all burnt off." One of the policemen even stripped her naked, and said to others, "All of you get out of here now, and let me burn her private parts."

Police Chief Li Jixiang restrained Mr. Wang in a chair and ordered four officers to tie Mr. Wang's arms and legs with rope and pull in four different directions, which dislocated Mr. Wang's shoulder. The chief said, "Torture is how we deal with Falun Gong practitioners. We torture the male practitioners using the same methods we use to torture you; for the female practitioners, we rape them." Mr. Wang was tortured to death at Nanguanling Prison in Dalian City

On September 13th, the Kangping County Police Department took practitioners Ms. Qi Jingru, Ms. Li Yuqing, Ms. Zhao Xiumei, and Ms. Liu Li into custody and they were detained in detention centres. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents tried to have Ms. Qi Jingru sentenced to prison. However, the case was turned down by the Procuratorate due to insufficient evidence. Ms Liu Li was beaten, resulting in cuts and bruises all over her body. Ms. Zheng Xiuli and Ms. Chen Yuchun were released after each was extorted of 5,000 yuan.

Mr. Deng Wenyang refused to renounce Falun Gong, and as a result he was sentenced to three years of forced labour, where he was brutally tortured. On October 8th, 2007, he was tortured to death in the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp in Baoding City, Hebei Province. The labour camp officials gave Mr. Deng's family two choices: make a secret deal or file a lawsuit. His family hired a lawyer but the camp forced Mr. Deng's case to be closed quickly.

Practitioners have been forced to work from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., or even 10:00 p.m. if more work needed to be done. Qiang Tongqin is the production captain in this brigade. In his labour record book, he wrote down that every Wednesday is his interview day, that Saturdays and Sundays are rest days, and that labour is done only five to six hours each day with rest breaks taken at noon. But these records do not reflect the true situation at all.

Ms. Zhang Li, a Falun Gong practitioner, is currently detained in the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. Personnel from the prison ordered inmates convicted of murder to abuse Zhang Li. Inmate Wang Yumei, serving a sentence for murder, continually finds opportunities to beat Ms. Zhang, who is constantly facing danger. The guards incite other inmates convicted of murderer to torture her while the guards pretend not to see it. they have shoved her to the ground and choked her, preventing her from breathing.

On October 24th, 2007, Ms. Wang Xiaoren, a Falun Dafa practitioner, was tried in the Fourth Courtroom in the Lixia District of Jinan City, Shandong Province. An announcement of the trial itself was not posted on the bulletin board or anywhere else. The guards at the entrance to the courtroom carefully searched everyone who attended the session. The chief justice, Liu Yong, refused to allow Ms. Wang's husband to attend the trial, claiming that he was involved in the case. The chief justice made his judgment very quickly because Ms. Wang did not have a defence counsel. In addition, because he was afraid that Ms. Wang would speak out about the persecution of Falun Gong in court, the chief justice continually interrupted Ms. Wang and distorted her words when she attempted to defend herself.

On October 7th, 2007, Mr. Ruan Fanghua was reported while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Dafa. He was then arrested by the police from the Longping High Tech District in Changsha City. He was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour and sent to the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp. On May 15th, 2005, he was sentenced to forced labour for the first time for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution to the local residents. The first torture for practitioners on their arrival at the forced labour camp is sleep deprivation. They are not allowed to sleep for many days and nights. Then those in charge take advantage of practitioners' foggy mental state as a result of sleep deprivation and pressure them to write the Guarantee Statement declaring that they will no longer practise Falun Gong.

Practitioner Qiao Zengyi was tortured to skin and bones in Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp, and he was on the verge of death. In June 2007, he was sent to hospital for emergency treatment. On July 4th, his family was ordered to bring medicine for a lung infection. When the family saw how emaciated he was, they asked the camp authorities to hospitalise him for further treatment, but their request was denied. They did not take Mr. Qiao to the First Hospital of Harbin Medical University until July 11th. Mr. Qiao died two months later.

Several Falun Gong practitioners from the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai's Jiaotong University were recently sentenced and persecuted. Among those detained were teacher Mr. Guo Xiaojun, mechanical engineering student Mr. Mei Jianqi, and Department of Energy student Mr. Ju Yanlai. They were all sentenced to five years in prison. Also, Mr. Wang Xudong, a Master's degree student from the School of Chemical Engineering, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. They were all detained in Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai at one time or another. Mr. Ju Yanlai held hunger strikes to protest the persecution for four years and was once near death.

Before the Chinese Communist Party held it's 17th National People's Congress, agents of the Yanbian Administration Division Political and Judicial Committee, the Administration Division, the 610 Office, the Administration Division Court and the Appeals Office went to local counties and cities to keep Falun Gong practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal. They planned to strengthen their efforts to persecute Falun Gong, and they rampantly arrested practitioners.

In September 2002, I was imprisoned in Harbin Prison because I practise Falun Gong. In November 2003, several practitioners and I refused to respond during roll-call, so the prison authorities forced us to stay outside for 6-7 days. We were not allowed to eat lunch and were forced to stand from early morning to late afternoon in the cold wind. Some practitioners fainted from the severe cold. When it was time for evening roll-call, practitioners who refused to say their names were forced to squat down. If the practitioners refused to squat down, they were beaten. Later, twelve practitioners including myself decided not to wear our name tags. For this we were put in the bathhouse and then in the warehouse to receive physical punishment. The bathhouse floor was covered with water. We were forced to stand in it during the day and sleep on the wet, cold floor at night. As a result, my left foot and calf became swollen. Some practitioners fainted.

Mr. Liu Zhihui was arrested by police from the National Security Team at the Baoding Public Security Bureau. Mr. Liu was detained for one day and night. Later, he was sent to the Qingyuan County brainwashing centre and not given any food or water for five days. The police injected Mr. Liu Zhihui with unknown drugs over the course of two days. On September 4th, 2007, the Baoding City Public Security Bureau forced Mr. Liu Zhihui's family to pay fifteen thousand. After securing the fifteen thousand yuan, the police said, "He was sentenced to a forced labour camp. If we cannot release him, we will give you back the money." Liu Zhihui's family was refunded only ten thousand yuan. The other five thousand supposedly paid for the meals at the labour camp.

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Ran Hengbing, 76, lived in Jiangyou City, Sichuan Province. His son Ran Tongyi (also a practitioner) was arrested by State Security agents on October 11th, 2007. Then, Ran Hengbing was ordered by Jiangyou City State Security agents to come for questioning on October 15th, 2007, and he was arrested and detained in the Jiangyou City Detention Centre. He died under suspicious circumstances in the detention centre on October 22nd, 2007. The Detention Centre Administration refused to allow his family to visit during his detention.

Ms. Li Jinling is a 39-year-old housewife and practitioner. In March 2001, town government personnel forcibly sent her to the county brainwashing centre from her home. Her husband asked the county to release her but the county public security bureau would not let her go. During that period, the 610 Office also extorted 2000 yuan from her family. In September 2002, Ms. Li was sentenced to three years of forced labour. In the Baoding Forced Labour Camp and Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp, she was physically punished, locked in a confined space, tortured with electric batons, tied to a bed by all four limbs and abused, deprived of sleep, had her head smashed into a wall, had her buttocks beaten with bamboo sticks, buried alive, and so on, until she was at the brink of death.

Ms. Sang Chunlian was arrested by the local police on September 24th, 2007. That night she was locked up in the Shouguang City Police Department, where two policemen brutally tortured her. One of them burned her arms and hands with a cigarette lighter with the maximum flame and caused many blisters. He deliberately chose spots where it would hurt the most.

On September 23rd, 2007, Mr. Tan Weichang was arrested by the local police. At present, he is imprisoned at the Yuexiu District No. 2 Detention Centre in Guangzhou City. His family members have gone several times to deliver him clothing, but every time the guards haven't allowed them to see him. They were only allowed to leave some of his clothes and money for him. His family members still don't know his situation.

Mr. Gao Liangui, 69 years old, was arrested because he is a Falun Gong practitioner and sent to Wuyuan Forced Labour Camp. The most common methods of torture used in Wuyuan Forced Labour Camp include the following: being confined in a solitary cell for more than a month at a time; being forced to attend brainwashing sessions run by a group of collaborators, former practitioners who have turned against Dafa; being shocked with electric batons, immobilised with handcuffs, forced to wear a motorcycle helmet for extended periods of time. The guards told Mr. Gao to participate in a "formation drill" in the afternoon. Mr. Gao talked to the division head and asked to rest because he was not feeling well. As a result he was brutally beaten.

Officers from the 610 Office and the Regional Administration Office brutally beat four Falun Dafa practitioners simply because they read a leaflet exposing the persecution. On January 24th, 2000, police broke into the home of Mr. Zhuang Chenglin and arrested him. Because Mr. Zhuang refused to answer any questions he was badly beaten. The head of the town government, first slapped Mr. Zhuang. Then others proceeded to punch and kick Mr. Zhuang. The police had Mr. Zhuang take off his trousers and lay down with his arms stretched out. Another group of officers then whipped Mr. Zhuang with bamboo and wooden sticks on the buttocks and all over his body. Five or six police officers took turns hitting Mr. Zhuang with sticks. His body was covered with cuts and bruises afterwards.

Several police officers from Nanhua Police Station ransacked the home of sisters Ms. Jia Yulan and Ms. Jia Yukun. They confiscated several Falun Dafa books. Then they took them to the Nanhua local police station. They took a photo of the confiscated books. They also took some leaflets exposing the persecution as "evidence." These materials, however, had not been found in Ms. Jia Yulan and Ms. Jia Yukun's home. The authorities had planted the documents, but they ordered the sisters to sign acknowledging their possessions, which they refused to do. The women were sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour.

Practitioner Ban Huijuan is suffering from mental disorder after being severely tortured. She is afraid to see people and automatically hides herself behind other people's backs when she sees someone. She does not dare to speak to people. She has nightmares and shouts in her sleep. She has lost her memory and doesn't remember her age. She also cannot recall the names of the people she has just met. She cannot walk properly and also passes blood. Her eyes cannot adjust to the light and she can barely see.

While 18 Falun Gong practitioners were still sleeping in the early morning of September 24th, 2007 (the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival), officers from the 610 Office of Xiantao City, the National Security Group, the Special Police Group, and the local police station broke into their homes. They arrested practitioners and took away their Falun Gong books, cash, and private belongings. Some of the practitioners were transferred to Wuhan City Brainwashing Centre. Some of them were transferred to the First Detention Centre of Xiantao City. The rest were transferred to Magang Brainwashing Centre, which is controlled by the 610 Office of Xiantao City. All the arrested practitioners were seriously mistreated. The eldest practitioner was 78 years old.

After being in a forced labour camp twice, not long after he was released in December 2006, Zhu Xiucheng was again seized by Mudanjiang National Security and detained in Mudanjiang Police Department for four days, where a national security officer kicked his face and cruelly tortured him, trying to force him to make a statement. The corner of his mouth was seriously injured, he could not speak, and his front teeth were knocked loose and almost fell out. Later he was force-fed during his hunger strike for resisting the persecution in the No. 2 Detention Centre. After he was detained for seven months in the detention centre, he was sentenced to five years and is now in Mudanjiang Prison. His wife, Wang Shue, has been incarcerated in Harbin Women's Prison for several years.

Yanbian and Jiutai labour camps resorted to various inhumane torture methods to reform practitioners. One of the torture methods used was to wake the practitioners up as early as 4:30 a.m. and make them sit on plastic backless stools for up to 15 hours a day. The practitioners had to sit upright and straight, at a 90-degree angle, with both hands placed in front of the knees and eyes staring straight at the blackboard in front. This prolonged sitting caused some of the practitioners' buttocks to become inflamed and eventually infected. Their oozing wounds would stick to their clothing, causing them extreme pain and itchiness. The suffering was unbearable. They were not allowed to move or turn their heads while sitting. They were not allowed to utter a word. Young or old, healthy or sick, failure to comply would be met with severe punishment such as kicks and punches.

I am a nursery teacher. Because I would not give up my personal belief and wanted to become a good person according to the standard of "Truthfulness, Kindness, Forbearance," I have been arrested and detained six times since the persecution of Falun Dafa began. On February 29th, 2000, I travelled to Beijing to appeal for Dafa and was arrested and taken to the county detention centre. The police hung a big poster around my neck and tied my hands behind my back. They forced me into the back of a truck and drove around different streets in the county, exhibiting me as an object of scorn. At the detention centre, they would not allow me to go to sleep. They interrogated me day and night. One policeman called Bai Bangwu beat me. I insisted on doing the exercises, so they put handcuffs and shackles on me. They were not removed for a week.

52-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Dai Zongzhen from Weifang City, Shandong Province was arrested on April 18th, 2007. She was sent to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp where she has been severely abused. One source indicated that due to the mistreatment she had to endure, her previous illnesses such as heart disease recurred, and she is on the brink of death. While incarcerated at the labour camp, Ms. Dai's family tried to visit her five times, but their requests were rudely denied.

While Ms. Deng Xinyue, 48, was shopping with other practitioners they were arrested when they began telling people in a shop about the goodness of Falun Dafa and explained that practitioners are innocent people being wrongfully persecuted. Head of the National Security Team He (first name unknown) interrogated Ms. Deng Xinyue. Officer He pulled her hair, violently shook her, and used all of his strength to beat her head and face. Then another big, strong police officer continued beating her until all her teeth were loose, and she had difficulty walking and breathing. Her hands were cuffed so tightly behind her that the cuffs caused lacerations across her wrists and hands. She nearly lost her life from the abuse.

For the month of October, Huang Zhenglan, a woman in her 40s, from rural China was imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital in Chongging City because of her belief in Falun Gong. She is now receiving forced injections of unknown drugs twice a day. If she refused the drugs, they would coil a rope around her entire body not only making it difficult to move but almost impossible to breathe. The database for Rescuing Falun Gong practitioners shows that Huang was healthy before she was kidnapped. However, during her imprisonment in the labour camp in 2005, she had symptoms of some mental disorder.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Xiaoqin was arrested on September 30th, 2007 by the police from Longshan County and agents from the Huayuan County 610 Office. Her house was ransacked and she was taken to Longshan County Police Station where she was tortured brutally. She was hung in the air while handcuffed. She was beaten with a leather whip and later forced to walk on sharp thin bamboo sticks that were stapled to the floor. The pain was excruciating and she lost consciousness a few times.

In September 2006, police arrested Mr. Gong Maocheng because he continued to practise Falun Gong. He was detained in a detention centre where the police brutally tortured him. The police covered his head with a black plastic bag and then beat him, which caused his mouth and nose to bleed. They did not stop until he fainted. His hands were handcuffed from the back and then he was hung on a heating pipe. He was only able to touch the ground with his toes. He was hung this way for 24 days. The police forced him to sit on a "tiger bench" and slapped his face. When the police became tired of slapping, they beat him with their shoes. Since 2000, Mr. Gong Maocheng has been extorted for nearly 124,500 yuan.

Former secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Dongfeng Automobile Company, Ms. Zhang Shoufeng, was an honest official. For the past eight years, she has been subjected to persecution, detention, and forced brainwashing for her belief in Falun Dafa and "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." In mid-November 2003, Ms. Zhang was sentenced to five years in prison. She is still in prison. Those practitioners that were not "transformed", such as Ms. Zhang, were locked in a separate room. A team consisting of 6 to 10 trained criminals was set up to persecute practitioners. Practitioners were not allowed to fall asleep or go to the toilet. They forced practitioners to sit all day long in an upright posture. It is very difficult for people to maintain that position for 24 hours a day. Ms. Zhang was tortured like this for more than three months, and her blood pressure reached 200.

In August 2007, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in the local government in Shendian Township started a new round of persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. They broadcast it to the entire town and encouraged the villagers to report Falun Gong practitioners. Local government officials declared that whoever reported a practitioner would get a 200 yuan reward; whoever turned in a Falun Gong poster would get a 100 yuan reward; and whoever found out about a Falun Gong gathering would get a reward of up to 1,000 yuan. On August 9th, practitioners Ren Guirong and Han Xianji exposed the persecution of Falun Gong and explained the importance of quitting the CCP to Tang Shenghua. Tang Shenghua, however, lured by the temptation of rewards, reported the couple to authorities. As a result, Tang received the 200 yuan reward.
