  • Associate Professor from National Prosecutors College Abused in Beijing Women's Prison

    Ms. Li Li is an associate professor in the Philosophy Department at the National Prosecutors College. In 2000, she had to leave her home to avoid the persecution. In November 2002, she was arrested and sentenced to nine years in prison. She has been held in Beijing Women's Prison ever since. She was once deprived of sleep for more than three weeks.
  • After Five Years of Imprisonment, Mr. Ren Dongsheng from Tianjin Suffers from Mental Disorder

    Mr. Ren Dongsheng was sentenced to five years of imprisonment for practising Falun Gong and detained in Gangbei Prison. In prison, he was placed in solitary confinement for his refusal to renounce Falun Gong. On account of a section chief's prodding, Mr. Ren's inmate monitors handcuffed and shackled him. During meal time, they would place his tray of food and water on the ground, as if feeding an animal. These inmate monitors were often ordered to beat him up with batons. Such a cumulative toll, has precipitated his mental disorder.
  • Mr. Zhou Hongbo from Daqing City Deceived and Arrested

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhou Hongbo was deceived into going to the Hujitumo Town Central Elementary School by deputy principal Yao Juxiang, Mr. Zhou's former classmate, on July 12th, 2011. Yao collaborated with the town's judicial bureau and the police station to lure Mr. Zhou to the old Daqing City Party School to be persecuted. Previously, in 2007, Mr. Zhou was arrested again as he spoke with people about Falun Gong. Police held him in the Taikang Town Detention Centre for eight days, and then took him to the Suihua Forced Labour Camp for a one-year term.
  • Retired Teacher Still Detained by Chifeng Police, Inner Mongolia

    On the morning of June 5th, retired teacher Ms. Wu Guohui and her husband Guo Wen were shopping at the local market. Ms. Wu was arrested by the local police and then taken to the police department. Mr. Guo was arrested at his home. That afternoon, the couple was taken to the local detention centre. Mr. Guo was detained for 12 days and then released June 16th on bail; he is now awaiting his trial. The police also extorted 20,000 yuan from him, which they claimed as bail money.
  • The Tragic Story of Practitioner Mr. Tang Yi's Death

    Mr. Tang Yi was sent to the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp for a long period of time because of practising Falun Gong. He was released in November 2008 after being diagnosed with bone tuberculosis. He passed away on September 22nd, 2009 at the age of 46. He wrote about his experience in the labour camp: "I had been on a hunger strike for 32 days before I was taken to the labour camp. I was very weak. Nonetheless, I was often pushed and held down on the floor. They grabbed my injured hand and dragged me over the floor, back and forth, which caused dislocation of my joints. I suffered from violent force-feedings. They slapped or punched me during the force-feedings. The feeding tube was difficult to insert through my nose, and made my nose bleed after several attempts."
  • Mr. Yang Wanming Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Exposing the Persecution

    After he began practising Falun Gong, Mr. Yang Wanming, around 50 years old, recovered from several illnesses. In 2009, he exposed the persecution of Falun Gong and was arrested. Without his family being notified, he was secretly tried in August 2009 and sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. When his family learned of his sentence, they appealed multiple times, and finally, after tremendous effort and hardship, his prison sentence was reduced to seven years. Yang is currently detained in Baoanzhi Prison. During his detention, his home has been ransacked by police several times. In prison, he was also pressured to give up his practice.
  • The Persecution of Tennis Coach Mr. Zhang Su

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Su was a coach at a tennis club. He was arrested by police on May 5th, 2011, and is currently being persecuted in the Hubei Province Law Education Centre. It wa recently learned that Zhang Su was seriously beaten by five or six guards in the Hubei Province Law Education Centre. Actually, when he saw that a female Falun Gong practitioner was being beaten by guards and her face was disfigured, he said to the guards, “How can you beat her like this?” They replied, “You are next.” Immediately, his hands were tied behind his back. He was pushed to the ground and brutally beaten until he was almost paralyzed. Zhang Su has been arrested five times in the past few years.
  • Armed Police Confront a Small, Helpless Lady in Her 60s

    The iron gate of Gangbei Prison in Tianjin suddenly opened and more than twenty armed police ran out, each holding either a police baton or an electric baton. They quickly lined up on both sides of the gate. Then came the deputy head of the prison accompanied by five division leaders. All this to deal with a diminutive lady in her 60s, who simply wished to see her son. She was wearing a vest with her grievances written on it. The police shouted at her in a ferocious manner, “Don’t you dare cross the line!” This lady's son, Mr. Zhou Xiangyang, was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment in Gangbei Prison for practising Falun Gong and was tortured severely.
  • Three Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in Brainwashing Centre in Chengdu City

    The so-called “Chengdu City Legal Education Centre” is actually the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. Since 2003, over 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted there. Within the past three to four months, at least 40 to 50 Falun Gong practitioners were detained there and forced to undergo brainwashing. Besides brainwashing, the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre carries out torture and pressures “confessions” from Falun Gong practitioners. Three Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province on June 9th and then sent to the brainwashing centre.
  • Mr. Jin Jie from Jiamusi City Sent to Suihua Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Jin Jie, 54, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. He was arrested on May 20th, 2011 when he was distributing materials to explain the facts about Falun Gong in a shopping centre, and held in a detention centre, where he went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and his condition weakened. He was transferred to the Suihua Forced Labour Camp on the morning on June 14th.
  • Vicious Conduct of Officials at the Qinglongshan Brainwashing Centre in Jiansanjiang, Heilongjiang Province

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Qi Chunxia, and Ms. Yu Guorong were recently detained in the Qinglongshan Brainwashing Centre. Ms. Qi had been arrested twice before, first in 2005 for distributing Falun Gong informational materials, and second to the Qinglongshan Brainwashing Centre on January 16th, 2011. When police arrested Ms. Yu they dragged her into the police vehicle without giving her time to put on her shoes and trousers and took her to the Jiansanjiang Brainwashing Centre.
  • Mr. Yang Chanrong's Lawyer Ejected From Courtroom During Trial in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province

    On June 23rd, the Zhonglou District Court in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province tried Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Chanrong. Mr. Yang was arrested by Changzhou 610 Office agents on May 26th, 2010. He was brutally tortured for over 14 days in order to extort a confession. During the trial, Mr. Yang was accused of downloading Falun Gong materials online and giving others MP3 files that contained information about Falun Gong. When Mr. Yang's lawyer said that the judge needed to uphold the laws and punish only the wicked, the judge gave him a warning and then removed the attorney from the court.
  • Mr. Bai Sanyuan in Serious Condition in Lanzhou Prison

    Mr. Bai Sanyuan is incarcerated in the Sixth Ward of Lanzhou Prison. On July 4th, 2011, doctors issued a notice to his family stating that his health was not good and that he had been diagnosed with severe malnutrition and obstructive jaundice. On July 12th, 2010, Mr. Bai was sentenced to six years in prison. He was taken to Lanzhou Prison to be tortured, including force-feeding. From November 2010 to January 2011, Mr. Bai was on a hunger strike. His left leg did not function properly, and the guards made him sit on a stool for nearly 15 hours a day to conduct “talks” with him and ordered other prisoners to closely monitor him.
  • Two Practitioners from Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province Arrested and Incarcerated at a Brainwashing Facility

    Falun Gong Practitioners Ms. He Qiuling and Ms. Wang Xinlian were arrested on the morning of June 9th by officers from the Baoqiao Police Department. The two practitioners have been subjected to arrests and detention numerous times over the past ten years for conducting themselves according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Their families have been frequently harassed, been placed under great pressure and have suffered mental torment.
  • Fifty Days of Persecution Suffered by Ms. Zhu Chunlian from Wuhan

    On April 19th - 20th, 2011, over ten Falun Gong practitioners from Wuhan were arrested and had their homes ransacked, including Ms. Zhu Chunlian. She recounts: "The officials confiscated my personal property, including Falun Gong books and materials, computers, and other items. They handcuffed me and took me to a brainwashing centre where I was detained and interrogated in an isolation room. A police officer forced me to undergo sleep deprivation for three consecutive days and nights. My handcuffs were never removed. I was also forced to stand for extended durations. As a result, I was fatigued and my legs were extremely swollen."
