After reading the latest information about the persecution of Falun Gong in a newspaper, the grandfather decided to help practitioners in China. He wrote a letter to a superintendent in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is also an MP, appealing for help stop the brutal persecution of Falun Gong. He cannot understand why this practice, which brings so many benefits to his grandson, has been banned and brutally persecuted in China.

In a letter sent to President Bush, with copies furnished to Executive Branch offices, over 100 scholars and professionals have urged the President to intervene in gaining the immediate release of Dr. Charles Li, an American citizen who was arrested on January 22 2003, as he walked off an airplane in Guangzhou, China.

"If Mr and Mrs Wang were sent back to China, what would happen? Would they be allowed to live as free citizens? Or would they again be detained and subjected to brutal "re-education"? I think the second outcome is far more likely. If this happens, I feel we have failed to do our duty to protect those who cannot return to their own country."

"Because of China's grave record of human rights abuses, particularly with regard to Falun Gong practitioners, we have reason to believe that Dr. Li is in danger of torture or worse, and we ask that our government intervene immediately on his behalf. It is absolutely unacceptable for a person to be arrested simply for his personal beliefs."

"I became aware of the plight of these courageous people when my sixteen year old son signed a petition in our market place. Knowing his keen sense of justice, I just signed it too and took a pamphlet away to read later. Upon reflection, doing just that in a supermarket queue was not too wise for when I read about the mother and her child, I was almost sick, there and then."
