Ms. Bai Yuzhi, a 40-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, works in the Weishui Township Industrial and Commerce Bank in Jingjing County, Hebei Province. In the past, she was nominated as a model worker by the Shijiazhuang City government several years in a row. Ms. Bai has practised Falun Gong and volunteered her time to teach others since 1994. The number of practitioners increased to several thousand during that time. Her dedication and kindness were well known among her colleagues and fellow practitioners. She also financially sponsored three poor students to continue their education.

After July 20th, 1999, she went to Beijing several times to appeal for Falun Gong. As a result, she was detained in Tiangui Mountain and later transferred to Cangyan Mountain. Police also unlawfully ransacked her home. At the end of 1999, police sent her to Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. In Division Four, she started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The police then secretly transferred her to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan City, where her determination and strong faith in Dafa frightened the evildoers and inspired fellow practitioners detained there. She also helped to create a righteous environment. Later the police transferred her to the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp in Baoding City, where she continued her hunger strike. Although she appeared very frail and weak, her spirit as a practitioner was unshaken and worthy of our respect.

In October 2000, Bai Yuzhi was transferred to a number of different places in Hebei Province, including labour camps, detention centres, a mental hospital and a drug rehab centre. She was detained for 11 months, during which time she went on hunger strike for nine months and was horribly tortured at the same time. She suffered from severe stomach injuries, internal bleeding and potassium-deficiency. Her vision was blurred and she weighed less than 100 lbs. Fearing that she might die in custody, police let her family take her home.

In January 2001, Jingjing County Police arrested Bai Yuzhi again and returned her to Baoding Forced Labour Camp. She started another hunger strike. Within a month, she was released. To avoid further persecution, she was forced to abandon her home and travel from place to place.

In early September 2001, Bai Yuzhi went to Weishui Railway Station in Jingjing to distribute truth-clarifying materials. Someone called the police and she was arrested. The callous Weishui Police Chief tortured her so badly that she remained unconscious for three days, lying on the cement floor. The police later sent her to Baoding Forced Labour Camp again. Seeing her extremely weak physical condition, the labour camp was afraid of taking responsibility if something happened and did not want to keep her there. Therefore, after less than ten days of hunger strike, Bai Yuzhi was released again.

No matter where she went, she always told people about Dafa. In December 2001 when she was passing out truth-clarifying VCD's, officers from the Yuqiang Police Station arrested her and sent her to Shijiazhuang Number Two Detention Centre. She went on a four-month hunger strike, and finally the detention centre backed down. This amazing lady walked out of prison for the fourth time.

At the end of August 2002, police took her away from home again. Officers from the Hongqi Street Police Station cruelly beat her to the point where she was beyond recognition. They transferred her to Yuqiang Police Station. The police had a hard time finding a detention centre that would take her because of her terrible condition. They finally managed to send her to Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp's Division Five. She started another hunger strike that lasted two months. She has now resumed eating, though she is still very weak. The Yuhua Court is now planning to sentence her to jail.
