A Human Rights Watch World Report issued on Tuesday January 14th stated that in 2002 China is still moving to limit freedom of expression, censorship of news publications and is cracking down on dissidents. It is thought that [Chinese] government agencies may have improved their public relations tactics to curb criticism of their human rights record.

Human Rights Watch is an America-based human rights organisation whose world report contains a long section about China’s human rights. According to the report, China is even using diplomatic means to avoid the UN’s condemnation of its poor human rights record, thus successfully avoiding the global criticism of its human rights.

The report also pointed out that the Chinese leadership is cunningly taking advantage of global anti-terrorism campaign to intensifying its crackdown on Falun Gong in China.
