On the evening of December 19th, a German Dafa practitioner was invited to appear on a prime time news program, which was broadcast live in Dresden. The news team wanted this practitioner to tell the German people about the persecutory nature of the Article 23 legislation. After briefly describing the basics of Article 23, the practitioner revealed how this legislation is the direct result of pressure from Jiang Zemin’s regime in China. He told the viewers how Article 23 would limit the freedoms of Hong Kong people in many ways including violating their freedom of speech, assembly and the media. He also revealed how if the world allowed Jiang to export his persecution to Hong Kong, soon he would be attempting to spread further afield and persecute other regions. This has already started with large human rights violations in countries such as Iceland, Cambodia and Ukraine.

The practitioner also revealed how the persecution of people in Hong Kong will affect societies in other parts of the world. If Article 23 is enforced, many basic rights will be denied in Hong Kong including the sharing of information and the freedom of speech and belief. This would vastly damage not only the lives and businesses of those who live in Hong Kong, but also of any foreigners who visit Hong Kong or have a business there. Even holidaymakers suffer the risk of life imprisonment if they say anything against the Chinese government whilst in Hong Kong – everyone’s basic rights and freedoms are under threat.

Practitioners have a good relationship with the staff of this television station in Dresden and have often took time and effort to tell them about the brutal persecution being suffered by Dafa practitioners. Therefore, the station has always reported positively on Falun Gong and has not been deceived by the lies that are featured in the government-controlled media in China.
