On December 4,2002, The Main News (Germany) reported that a photo exhibition held in Veitshchheim attracted many people’s attention to Falun Gong, a traditional Chinese meditation practice. They also reported that it raised awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong in China, which has already caused the murder of over 500 innocent practitioners. The photo exhibition is to last until the 20 December.

Mayor Rainer Kinzkofer, who was present at the opening ceremony, said that he was pleased to have approved the request for the exhibition.

According to the introduction of a Falun Gong practitioner, Falun Gong is also called Falun Dafa, and is a traditional spiritual cultivation method to improve mind and body. Over 100 million people in the world are practising. Falun Gong enables people to live a healthy, peaceful and harmonious life, and to be a good person guided by the principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.”

A survey conducted in 1999, shows that over 70 million Chinese citizens were practising Falun Gong. Every morning hundreds of thousands of people practised the exercises together in the square and in the parks. Jiang Zemin launched a nationwide campaign to suppress Falun Gong. Since then, Falun Gong has been banned in China and over 50 thousand practitioners have been arrested with over 10 thousand practitioners being sent to forced labour camps. It is estimated that over two thousand practitioners have been tortured to death.

In order to participate in the World Human Rights Day on December 10, local Falun Gong practitioners held this photo exhibition to tell people about the human rights abuses being carried out against Falun Gong practitioners in China
