Mid to Late Period Loose and Wide Style
After the height of Tang Dynasty, women’s clothing gradually adopted a loose and wide style. During the middle and late Tang Dynasty, this style became even more popular – the sleeves of the common woman’s costume were often as wide as four chi (about 1.33m). The picture below illustrates the gauze robe that is closed in front with a long skirt and a shawl. This is the typical clothes of a woman in the middle and late Tang Dynasty. This costume, together with golden flower hairpins, was also known as “fine hairpin and dress.”

In the Tang Dynasty, women usually wore various corollas and most were made of silk gauze. Later on, wearing real flowers became popular. Tree peony was very popular. The lady with hair piled high wears a real peony corolla in the picture.
