Liu Fengming is a 63 years old retired worker from the post office in Shijazhuang City, Hebei Province. She was deaf and limped in one leg. Ms. Liu also lost her eyesight in one eye and had trouble seeing out of the other. Before she began her practice of Falun Gong, she could hardly walk because of her severe rheumatism. Ms. Liu was a badly handicapped person.

She had all kinds of illnesses and was taking medications every day. She could not live without being dependent on all sorts of western drugs and Chinese herbal medicines. Being incapacitated, she felt miserable and did not want to go on. Twice she had written a will and was ready to die. But since her children were still young and in school, she could not leave them, so she kept on struggling with her illnesses and leading a painful existence.

She began practising Falun Gong in 1997. Within ten days or so, her illnesses were all gone and her body felt as though it was weightless. She told everyone she met: "Falun Gong is truly remarkable. It gave me a second life."

After July 20, 1999, the dictator in China madly persecuted Falun Gong. The authorities arrested practitioners, put them in jail, beat them up, ransacked their homes, sentenced them to prison terms, etc. Seeing this, she truly felt sorry and kept thinking: Falun Gong asked people to follow the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" and to become a better person. It has improved people's health and morality. It has benefited not just individuals but also helped the whole country. Why is it being persecuted? She decided to write down her own experiences and send it to the Appeals Office in Beijing.

She went by herself to the Appeals Office in Beijing in late October 1999. To her surprise, she was met there with police and handcuffs. Then they informed her local Xinghua Street Police Station (it changed its name to Weiming Street Police Station after they tortured practitioner Zuo Zhigang to death) and drove her back to Shijazhuang with hands cuffed behind her back, causing them to swell severely.

At Qiaoxi District Police Office in Shijazhuang, violence-prevention squadron Captain Li interrogated her and tried to coerce her into giving up the practice but to no avail. Li began slapping her in the face, causing her face to swell and become distorted. Her strong belief in Dafa did not waver a bit however, in spite of the physical and psychological torture she was suffering. The evil authorities did not know what to do; finally they sentenced her to forced labour for three years. When taking her to the labour camp, the police still tried to coerce her to the last minute: "It is not too late if you agree to give up practice now. We will let you go home right away if you do."

Liu Fengming was among the first group of Falun Gong practitioners who were put into the forced labour camp in Hebei Province. She did not succumb to the evil. In the labour camp, she endured all sorts of hardship. She had only one request: to be allowed to practise and study the Fa [principles of Falun Dafa] after the daily labour. But the police denied her request. So she and other practitioners went on a hunger strike that lasted over 20 days with no food or water.

Around the Chinese new-year festival in 2001, the labour camp decided to release her on medical parole because they were afraid of taking responsibility for anything that might happen. The manager in her company was concerned about his own position and did not want to sign the release document.

After Liu Fengming returned home, her daughter, affected by the slanderous propaganda by the media, tried to keep her from practising or studying at home. Her daughter also asked her husband to watch her, following her everywhere to prevent her from having any contact with other practitioners. The labour camp required her to submit a report every three months. As a matter of fact, they are still depriving her of her freedom. When the three-year term of forced labour was over, the evil found a new way to persecute her. They demanded that she pay 5000 Yuan to attend a brainwashing class.

The improvement of her health after practising Falun Gong was well known. All her neighbours were familiar with the situation that indeed Dafa gave her a new life. Just because she refused to give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance," and she tried to explain the facts to the Appeal Office, she has been so severely persecuted over the last three years. Thus Ms. Li, a lady of 63 years, although extremely reluctant to leave her children and husband, was forced to leave home and stay away from her hometown. In the face of the cruel reality, she really had no choice.
