Report from a Chinese news channel of a French Radio Station on October 11th. US president Bush might readdress the importance of respect for religious freedoms during Jiang Zemin’s visit to the US, which mainly refers to China’s persecution of Falun Gong. The report is as following:

“After the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday Chinese president Jiang Zemin’s itinerary of his US visit, China-US relations again became a hot issue in international news.

As everybody knows, China’s 16th national congress will be hosted on November 8th and the success or failure of Jiang’s visit to the US from October 22nd to 25th will have influence on his decision to stay or step down from power on the 16th national congress.

China announced Jiang’s itinerary to the US, which verified Jiang’s visit to Bush’s Texas ranch but did not release what issues Jiang will discuss with Bush.

After China announced Jiang’s visit to the US, the spokesperson of White House said, President Bush hopes to discuss with Jiang face to face the China-US relations, current China-US economic and trading status, which is helpful to the US development, and issues on Iraq.

Besides, President Bush might readdress the importance of respect for the religious freedoms, which mainly refers to issues on Falun Gong. A latest report from US Department of State mentioned China’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners several times.”
