During the Asia-Europe Summit Meeting in September 2002, Amnesty International Denmark Chapter held a peaceful appeal in front of Chinese Embassy in Denmark on September 23, 2002.

In a message to its members, Amnesty International mentioned the background of this activity, "Jiang and his regime's terrible record on human rights is highlighted. Besides persecuting Chinese people in large scale, they also utilize other countries' governments to persecute the freedom of Chinese people."

The letter from Amnesty International Denmark also pointed out, "The number of prisoners imprisoned to jails and labour camps in China each year is much more than the total number imprisoned in all other countries. At the same time, torture is very common in police stations, jails, and labour camps. On September 23, 2002, Amnesty International will issue a report to the whole world on human rights in China. During Chinese leader's visit, Amnesty International Denmark will hold other activities."

"Earlier this year, Jiang visited Iceland. The Icelandic government used a blacklist to ban practitioners from entering Iceland. A few months ago, Falun Gong practitioners were not allowed to meditate in front of Chinese Embassy in Copenhagen."

On the afternoon of September 23, 2002, members of Amnesty International Denmark n wore T-shirts on which "human rights" in Chinese characters were printed, held banners with the words "anti-torture" and symbols of Amnesty International, and peacefully appealed in front of the Chinese Embassy. After their representative read their declaration, someone proposed, "Let's turn round and face them (the embassy staff). Let them see clearly the words on our T-shirts."
