Huang Jiangang , brother of Montreal practitioner Huang Limin.

Jiangang was sentenced to one and a half year of forced labor without trial for his practice of Falun Gong. At the beginning of March 2001, Jiangang was sent to the Dafeng Fangqian Labour Camp in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province.


Lin Mingli, 43, brother of Montreal practitioner Lin Shenli.

Mingli was illegally sent to the Dafeng Labour Camp in May 2001, where his brother, Shenli, had been imprisoned for two years. The harsh conditions in this camp, which Shenli experienced, underline the urgency of Mingli’s situation. Shenli was released and returned to Canada with strong support from the Canadian government and thousands of signatures from concerned Canadians.


Lu Xiuzhen, 58, mother of Toronto practitioner Li Bo.

Lu is a Secondary School teacher. Elected as an outstanding employee, and well recognized for achievements in teaching. In November 2001, she was arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials and subsequently sentenced to two years in the notorious Mashanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.


Jin Yangtao, 24, nephew of Toronto practitioner Liu Jinan

Yangtao graduated from the Finance Department in Liaoning Institute of Technology in 2000. He was arrested in March 2002. Despite his parents’ efforts, Yangtao’s whereabouts remain unknown.


Zhou Zheng, 51, sister of a Vancouver Falun Gong practitioner

Zhou Zheng was taken away from home for detention for over two months. As there was no news of her whereabouts, in February 2002, Zhou’s brother from Canada went back to Beijing and spent one month looking for her. Finally, she was located at the Tiantanghe Labour Camp in Beijing where she has been imprisoned there for over 18 months.


Qiu Zhaojin, 59, husband of Toronto practitioner Wang Yanying; and Qiu Bo, 27, son of Wang

Both Zhaojin and Bo were arrested in October 2000 and sentenced to three years in Liuchangshan Forced Labour Camp for practicing Falun Gong. Que Zhaojin had been the Chief Art Editor at Jinan Dachong Daily, Shandong Province.


Huang Xiuchao, 70, mother of Toronto practitioner Liang Biao

Huang is the grandmother of three. A native of Siuxi in Gunagdong Province, she had devoted all her life to her family and work. In February 2002, she was arrested for practicing Falun Gong exercises and clarifying the truth to the people she knows. She has been secretly sentenced to four years in detention.


Wu Yangying, 42, sister of Toronto practitioner Wu Yanxia; and Wu Zhanzhong, 36, brother of Yanxia.

Both Yangying and Zhanzhong were arrested on January 18, 2001. Their children brought slips that said, “Falun Gong wishes you well” as well as Falun Gong audio tapes to school. As a result, Yangying and Zhanzhong were arrested by the local police and sentenced each to two years in the forced labor camps.
