Professor Piao, who was in his 60s, was arrested and imprisoned in the Yanji Detention Centre. He suffered tremendous torture at the detention centre, but he remained steadfast in his belief in Falun Dafa.
An official from Yanbian Medical School confirmed that Professor Piao died in the detention centre and said that his body was cremated. A police officer from the Yanji Detention Centre claimed, "Professor Piao died after he was set free." When he heard that the medical school confirmed that Professor Piao died in the detention centre, he immediately hung up.
Reports show that Professor Piao Shihao was not the first Falun Gong practitioner who was murdered in the Yanji Detention Centre. Sources show that in December 2001, practitioner Liu Hong, a teacher, suffocated and died when the police violently force-fed him. The tube was inserted haphazardly and the food went into his lungs. It had been only about one month from the time when Liu Hong was arrested until his death. The Yanji Municipal Police Station and the Yanji Detention Centre had been strictly blocking this news.
It is estimated that over 465 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death in China during the 3 years of persecution. Some officials from the Chinese government disclosed at the end of October 2001 that the real death toll from July 20, 1999 until then exceeded 1,600.
